Funny, those two actors in relation to each other: Hurt was the old, well known veteran actor, when he was announced as the doctor, while Matt Smith was a relativley unkown and very young actor. But still; both were big surprises, when announced.
Ps: John is brilliant, but of course I voted for 11.

11/10, he's just absoloutley brilliant! When I watch any Doctor I enjoy them infinitley. If I watch Matt Smith I am paralyzed from the first second hes onscreen. I've got a smile or a grin on my face every time he makes a funny gesture, every word he says with his brilliant voice is like (Murry Golds) music to my ears. And I think he is not only my favourite Doctor but, I d even go as far to call him: My alltime favourite actor! Sorry, need to go now, my straw hasnt got enough fuzz! ;)

I just heard: the doctor will now be played by Peter Kaye, who will base his Doctor on his previous appearence in fan-favourite 'Love & Monsters'. There will also some old characters coming back; the Maitland children will now be permanent companions instead of Clara.

My theory was, that they age much faster in stress. The war doctor lived in the time war, and the eleventh doctor spent 300 years travelling whithout ageing, while he aged quite a bit after 300 years of trenzalore. The next 600 years made him much older, so he was under stress of the ongoing battle (the siege lasted only the third 300 years). I had a theory, too that the 1st doctor was so stressed by a 'normal' life, he couldnt cope. Thats why he stole a time-capsule and "relaxed". Since that, he almost didnt age at all but when the time war started, his 8th incarnation began too grow older, the war doctor was in the front line, not traveling around, I think you can call that stress.

I'd love to see the Doctor in Ireland, it would be really nice! Being a german there is something really sad about DW; the only (modern) episode set in Germany was "Let's kill Hitler" during Nazi-Germany. I think it's really sad, that the country I was born in, is still identified with Nazis and all that stuff. Of course I am disgustet as much by the Nazis as anybody, but I think after 70 years since end of the war, you could just let it be. Germany has alot of (historically) much more interesting things to explore. I generally think that Doctor Who should do more really different stuff; like India in the 18th century, or Prussia, medieval china, crusadings, the persian empire, etc. There is SO much unused potential connected to time travel.
Btw: Happy St. Patrick's day!

"Lesser writers" as you call them sometimes write brilliant stories. I agree that Thompson and Chibnall arent my fav. writers BUT I dont think they're generally bad. I liked some of their eps. and Thompson work on Sherlock is brilliant.
1 month, 1 week ago on Why More Two-Parters Is A Good Thing
If anyone is wondering how the invasions could have happened if Amy forgot them here is the answer:
She didnt remember BEFORE the restauration, after that she did. But then she wouldnt remember all the different (and important!) things, that happened when the universe was cracked. WRONG! Look at the minisode "good night" - qoute:
"I never had parents. But when you rebooted the universe - or whatever you did - I had parents, and I've always had parents. And now I have both- both versions in my head..."
Ps: by the way: brilliant article! :)

I started watching Doctor Who with series five, after that series 6 and series 7. And I prefer the 'Moffat' era, cause the three people I instantley loved when I watched the eleventh hour were: Matt Smith, Steven Moffat and Murray Gold. And when the 'Hello, I'm the Doctor' scene came, I just thought: "Done, I've seen one episode and now its my favourite show!" (That scene was also the triumph of Moffats writing, Matts acting and Murrays new music style. After that I watched some Teannant episodes and after that I watched season 1 - 4 in about 3-4 days. But even if I prefer Moffats Era I LOVE RTDs era too, just not as much as Moffats. And I am equally infuriated when someone insults ANY of the eras, I love them both; both have their good parts, both have their bad parts and both have their absoloutley fantastic parts!

Ah, series five... I will always love you, you were my first season and the one that taught me to understand english very well - (actually, you could almost say taught me english in general! And there were three perxons who made that series so smashing- Matt, the Moff and Murray Gold!
Oh sorry, forgot Karen! (AND Alex Kingston!)

I think there are some brilliant writers, that you haven't mentioned like Tom McRae (rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel, The Girl who waited), Richard Curtis (Vincent and the Doctor) Simon Nye (Amy's Choice) and more recently: Toby Whithouse (School Reunion, The Vampires of Venice, A Town called Mercy), Neil Gaiman (The Doctors Wife, Nightmare in Silver) and possibly Neil Cross. Concerning series 8 people I' welcome back Jamie Mathieson and Peter Harness was quite nice too. Oh, and obviously "The Moff"!

I just had a thought: if the woman in the shop would've nevergiven Clara (or whoever she is) the phone number, she would never have met the Doctor. He would still be in victorian london. But no, if he would be in victorian london and clara still on earth, then the events of "Day of the Doctor" would never have happenen = Gallifrey would've been destroyed. But with Gallifrey destroyed the whole Trenzalore conflict would never have happened, no silence no cracks, no River (at least not in this form). So after the freshly regenerated eleventh Doctor crashes into Amelias garden, she would have parents and no crack in the wall, without Clara all of Matt Smith era is rewritten, aswell as the series 4 two parter 'Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead'.

I actually liked the reveal scene of the monsters girlfriend, it was done much better than in Hide, Hide would've been great without the reveal scene, while in time heist it adds a layer to three characters (the Teller, the Doctor and Madame Karabraxos).

If it was a kid, it would've reacted different to the doctors speech. I think a REAL kid would be confused, cause ir scared two unkown grownups. Also, I couldn't hear anyone coming in (okay that doesn't count, I couldn't hear Capaldi either).
