@Status: Stuck in the vortex I strongly agree Mr Status, some posters should be kinder.

Unfortunately though, i think we have to accept that any sample of individuals will inevitably produce some intentionally ungracious or intentionally spiteful elements.

All we can hope for, is that these people can get help with their anger issues, rather than directing them into our tolerant and friendly discussion arena.

Doctor Who isn't, and never has been scary to those older than about 12 years.

I hope Mr Gatiss isn't setting himself up for a fall by proclaiming 'how scary it is', before it's even been shot.

We all know things can change very much between submission of script and final product.

@Antee991166  @NeutronFlow is gniwolf That is true, but i would really like her to  be part of the ongoing story as opposed to being just a reflection of what has already passed.

While Kate is bound to be loved, due to her legacy, i feel that up to now her character has been no more than painting by numbers.

Kate Stewart ticks all the boxes that qualify her as a loved character, but only because she is the Brigadier's daughter.

Maybe it's just me, but i feel the really interesting stuff that might have transpired, could well have come from Osgood.

I feel it is a huge missed opportunity.

I am really gutted (p**sed if you're not British!), that Mr Moffat decided to kill Osgood.

While i'm really fond of the latest UNIT representaion and the history that is carried by Kate, daughter of Alistair, i can't help but think that Osgood (did she have a first name?), was the superior character of the two.

It's such a real shame that we probably won't get the opportunity to explore her further.

It would have worked just as well had the Prime Minister been male.

@4sure @joseffwilliams A true reflection of all character types would present a more realistic world view.

All sorts of people exist.

To fail to represent the less feisty is tantamount to suggesting that they are unworthy of a spot in the limelight.

A narrow representation of individuals can be counter-productive and can lead to viewers of a similar nature feeling insignificant.

The problem many fans have, myself included, is that Neil Gaiman went way beyond his remit with 'Nightmare in Silver'.

Being commissioned to 'make the Cyberman scary again', does not mean 'change their nature beyond all recognition'.

To fundamentally alter them as he did, was to remove just that which made them chilling in the first place; that they are basically us with bits added.

He was asked for 'a Cybermen story' and gave us 'a generic robot story'.

So for him to attempt to counter the criticism of NIS by saying 'Oh, but i did stretch Matt Smith', is imo a rather feeble response.

There are many other writers who too have provided Matt with wide ranging emotion and dialogue to flex his acting chops on, whilst still delivering a good solid story.

NB. I note that it has been suggested that the Cybermen would eventually evolve that far.

Of course, logically, if they were real, this would be the outcome.

However, for the purposes of Doctor Who, they should always remain true to the original conception.

@supermoff 'but with Strictly airing in the Autumn, Doctor Who is unfortunately subject to being pushed around. :/ '

End of April start, and ending in July, would be just perfect.

@Amy is uniting the Earth Kingdom! Yes you can! You have every right to cite what you like.

Equally, i have every right to question it's validity.

You say 'Doctor Who has no canon'. I say it does, and for me that is the tv stories only, which came first and are the primary point of reference. The expanded whoniverse may be 'officially licenced', brilliant, inventive, wonderful, superb and often better than the tv show for some people, but it can also often be contradictory, as i'm sure you are aware.

So for me, there has to be a bottom-line in terms of canon, and that is the tv series.

I agree, there are some great stories there, and you have every right to consider them canon, just as I have every right not to.

For me, for the record, I view tv stories as strict canon and other stuff as a cool what if?, possibly, maybe? sort of 'sideline'.
