19 hours, 31 minutes ago on Into the Dalek UK Ratings
@supermoff For the most part, i concur with your list.
I would though, place 'Dalek' very slightly above tonight's admittedly fantastic 'Into the Dalek', but not much.
What i don't quite get, if you'll humour me for a minute, is your placing of 'Asylum of the Daleks', an episode that for me at least, promised so much, but delivered so little.
Dalek Oswin was a brilliant, well executed part of 'Asylum', but the Daleks themselves were little more than an over-hyped, badly used, sideshow.
Would you mind saying why you rate it so highly?
As a side-note: To Livefyre; please understand British English. It is quite irritating to find 'humour' squiggly-red underlined ... after all, this is a British web-site discussing a British show. Thanks.

@TheBeast101 Are you sure there is such a thing as a universally recognised rating 'system'?
The Daleks 'are no longer scary'?
And why is that exactly?
Most likely, because the viewer is no longer under 10 years old.
It makes me laugh sometimes.
Who fans who lament the lack of scares like they used to get, whilst seemingly overlooking the fact that they've grown up in the meantime.
We all still love watching Doctor Who, but please face facts; if you're watching a family show as an adult, it will entertain you, but it absolutely will not scare you!
Why is it no longer scary?
Because you're no longer a child!

@AaronMcGahon1 @MerieliaZ 'The Path Web, the Dalek hive mind. The Daleks share each other's memories. Daleks the Doctor has never met before will remember when he fought to avert their destruction in Genesis Of the Daleks' ... or at least would have remembered before Dalek Oswin erased their memories of him ... ;)
1 day, 15 hours ago on Rate & Discuss Into the Dalek
@doctorwhomultiverse I don't think the Daleks have been overused, they've just been badly used.
When a Dalek story is very good, no-one complains about overuse.
Unfortunately, of late until today, the Dalek outings have been mediocre.
Not many would complain about overuse if we got one Dalek story as good as this every year.
Nice to see another writer on board, to offer a different take and a refreshingly good story.

I would have thought that was obvious to everyone by now ... :/
@Antee991166 'it would be a bit strange for her to leave after saying that'
I'm genuinely not sure why you think that, given that everyone, Moffat, cast, etc lie all the time about everything to do with the show?
As far as i can see, it's very likely to be correct!
I was always bothered by the TARDIS doors opening in the wrong direction in the previous sequence, so for me that is a good enough reason for a new one :D
2 weeks, 2 days ago on The Series 8 Title Sequence
Great article Elliot, i very much agree. Casual viewers (ie most viewers) will not even know about his other roles.
To be honest it would not bother me if Capaldi's previous appearances were completely overlooked.
But in order to please those who think otherwise i am certainly not opposed to a throw-away line acknowledging the fact.

@TheBeast101 Oh dear oh dear. Terrible indeed!
How on Earth will you fill the extra 50 minutes?
@SonicTheHedgehogRules I was so surprised by Gaiman's depiction of the Cybermen in 'Nightmare in Silver'.
Not being that aware of his non-Who stuff, i allowed myself to get drawn in by the hype about his abilities as a writer and consequently expected amazingness from him.
How disappointed was i?
He is apparently a long-term fan!
If that is true then i guess he must have missed all the classic Cyberman stories, because his understanding of them is clearly nil.
'The Borg' were Star Trek's rip-off of the Cybermen, but written sufficiently differently to not be too closely compared.
How ironic then, that Gaiman should turn the Cybermen into Borg?
Why could he not have focused and expanded on that which used to make the Cybermen unique in the science fiction world?
Nightmare in Silver?
It should have been called 'Absolute Bloody Nightmare', because that's what it was for the Cybermen.

@Angie Whodini @NeutronFlow @Temporal TomatoI would suggest, less 'removed the issue', more attempted to 'paper over the cracks'.
3 weeks, 4 days ago on The Curious Case of the 9th Doctor
@ClaireAbraham @Angie Whodini @NeutronFlow Ok then.
Having watched 'Day of the Doctor' would you say the John Hurt incarnation lacked 'the essential essence of the Doctor'?
@Skylord Maldon "What number of incarnations has the doctor had"
And it used to be so easy ... *sigh*
@ClaireAbraham 'the numbering system exists solely to keep us clear on which INCARNATION we are discussing'
'the best way to accomplish that is to agree that Christopher Eccleston is the Ninth Doctor'
Christopher Eccleston is the tenth incarnation.
How can that be the 'best way'?
@connellmatthews I really want to agree with you.
However, due to Moffat's storyline, Christopher Eccleston is now the 10th incarnation of the character.
@Temporal Tomato '"The War Doctor" isn't an in universe term, it was introduced by Moffat and the merchandising team, etc. as not to screw up the numbering'
Given that it was Moffat who 'screwed up the numbering' isn't your statement a little ironic?
I guess the facts of the matter are thus:
First incarnation - William Hartnell
Second incarnation - Patrick Troughton
Third incarnation - Jon Pertwee
Fourth incarnation - Tom Baker
Fifth incarnation - Peter Davison
Sixth incarnation - Colin Baker
Seventh incarnation - Sylvester McCoy
Eighth incarnation - Paul Mcgann
Ninth incarnation - John Hurt
Tenth incarnation - Christopher Eccleston
Eleventh incarnation - David Tennant
Twelfth incarnation - Matt Smith
Thirteenth (or new First) incarnation - Peter Capaldi
@Polyphase Agreed. References to the past help link the show with it's history and create a much more fluid, believable timeline for the Doctor.
It was a great shame though, that no-one at the 'Hide' read-through (looking at you Moffat!!!), corrected Matt Smith on his mis-pronunciation of 'Metebelis 3'.
That sort of sloppy mistake, undermines the whole endeavour ...

@Planet of the Deaf @Richard Elliot 'the first Matt Smith TARDIS interior wasn't easily dismantled and rebuilt, so they built a new one'
A great shame that.
I know some won't agree with me on this, but i've been watching for almost forty years and i think Matt Smith's first console room was the most beautiful and inviting that we have ever seen.
1 month ago on How does the TARDIS reflect The Doctor? (Part 3)
I've really enjoyed your series of articles Richard, such a shame you've exhausted the list of console rooms.
I'd love to see your obvious talents tackle another subject ...
What a delight.
What a splendid, thoughtful, wonderfully articulated article!
A breath of fresh air every so often does wonders for the respiration.
This superb essay has had a similar effect on my cognition.

1 month ago on What Actually Makes a Story Dark?
@Amy is Hannibal 'That first one was an honest question. People misinterpreted it completely.'
Silly me, of course they did. Obviously it wasn't Moffat's fault.
Clearly it was down to the hundreds or possibly thousands of fans who reacted (quite predictably) to his statement.
Most commenters here understand the danger of posting inflammatory remarks, it is one of the codes of conduct to which we (mostly) subscribe.
Are you really trying to convince me that Moffat is/was unaware that saying these things would have the effect we've all witnessed on at least two occasions now?
Reading through your posts, here and on other articles, it is clear to me that you are a Moffat apologist, that in your eyes he can do no wrong.
Often he does good things, but these off the cuff comments that ignite the fandom in conflict are at best naive, and at worst purposely contrived to achieve said effect.
1 month, 1 week ago on Moffat Questions “Twelfth Doctor” Title
This Moffat wind-upery is becoming really tiresome now.
Last time it was 'no-one actually said the Doctor isn't human', and now, this.
Both statements clearly designed to cause conflict amongst the fandom.
Moffat is behaving like the really annoying kid that no-one likes at school, who gets pleasure from winding others up and seeing them argue and fight as a result.
Childish and ridiculous.
I've an idea Mr Moffat. Unless you have something interesting or relevant to say, please say nothing and just get on with your job.
@YaelMoise @NeutronFlow Indeed YaelMoise.

1 month, 2 weeks ago on McGann: Charles Dance Would Be a Great Master
@bl0ndie98 I too would like that.
It would create a great continuity of events and imho much more preferable than merely recasting and starting afresh.
@YaelMoise At least you took the time to present your thoughts eloquently ;D
@Huknar I could use a Dance Master.
My quickstep and paso doble are atrocious.
@Regenerated Catterson I would like to see a handover (regeneration) on screen.
I think continuity is served much better this way than if some new guy just turns up claiming to be the Master.
We've seen the Doctor dance ...
...it's definitely time to have the Master Dance !!
@TheNightmareChild sees into your soul! @Polyphase I agree that being present during the Time War must have been a burden.
But the impression i got from 'Night of the Doctor', was that he made the decision to be 'Doctor no more' in order to actively take part in it, rather than to stay on the sidelines as he'd done until then.
So the way i see things, he didn't really participate in the Time War and certainly didn't think he'd destroyed his own race as mistakenly suggested by our friend Polyphase (who i like enormously btw and wouldn't want to offend) :)
