The Oncoming Storm

Having recently watched some classic episodes, the effect of music is so underrated! It adds to an episode and adds to the drama/emotion. I do hope the latest theme tune continues because it's nor been going long enough to be fully appreciated, I like it

@camelot55555 Talking of the Tesselecta, if you pause at 0.05, doesn't that look like one of the corridors from inside the Tesselecta?

I am praying for some more prominent episodes for Clara. The AotD and Snowmen Claras were so much better, feistier and cleverer. So far the modern day Clara has been one dimensional, let's see more of her!

Surprised nobody has mentioned Madame de Pompadeur yet! There are a number of years in her life that we don't know anything about and who's to say that the Doctor didn't whisk her away for some of them. She could potentially return, travel with the Doctor for many years, then use some Lazarus-type technology from the future to make herself appear young, then die supposedly 43 but actually of old age from all the years she spent travelling...story.

@ajl117 @gunslinger19 Susan was admittedly annoying at times and thus far in New Who, kids haven't fared to well...

We practically got 6 doctors in the anniversary year: Smith, Tennant, T.Baker and Hurt in DOTD, McGann in NOTD and Capaldi as a brand new Doctor who made a cameo in DOTD and then had the ending of TOTD. On top of that we had the NOTD where we got glimpses of all the Doctors, some brilliantly edited and remastered (the first Doctor) and the part when all the Doctor's saved Gallifrey in the special. Let the moaners moan, it was a perfectly balanced 50th anniversary year and to have Doctor's 1,2,3,5,6&7 would have been impossible (because of the passing of 3) or unrealistic (due to the ageing of the other 3). The only downside was Eccleston, but that was obviously his choice not to return (even though I am rather peeved that he didn't at least return for the regeneration scene).

@Seaborn W Deadman who are the fourth and fifth women's eyes? I know one is amy pond, but struggling to think who the other one could be...
@DW_girl That's a matter of opinion I suppose, but for me it is terrible

@IamTheDoctorBasicallyRun Don't worry, I agree with you, it's an abomination of an episode
I find it incredible that so many people consider this episode to be any kind of good, I respect others' opinions, but for me this episode ranks down there with 'Fear Her'
@80sKnight Ahh, makes sense! Thank you very much! This doesn't really explain away the whole trenzalore/grave thing though unfortunately :/

Can somebody please explain how the doctor knows he "already hasn't saved Amy and Rory"? Im confuzzled
@Notsosmartguy 3/10 is very harsh, although the finale lets it down and some episodes are rubbish (6.5/6, 6.9) the others make up for it, 6.1/2 and 6.7 are brilliant not to mention 6.4 and the stand alone 6.10 and 6.11, give it more credit seriously!!

@sontaran17 So you kinda like Moffat's Christmas Specials? ;)

@Galax @The Oncoming Storm I might give you Day of the Moon and The Name of the Doctor :P

For me this episode has the best pre-titles sequence of any new-who episode, its fast, introduces new characters easily, contains humour and sets up the plot of the entire episode in the space of 2-3 minutes! I challenge anyone to name a better pre-titles sequence...
@KingOfTheInterWebs has Kidneys @The Oncoming Storm@Nightmarish I thought there was a hesitation because they let the child's father plead with them and there was quite a gap (hesitation in my eyes) before the Doctor caused a distraction

3/10 at a push, struggling to find any good points, such a waste of an episode slot
6 months ago on Best of Matt Smith: Night Terrors
@Nightmarish I agree, I want to see a ruthless - and therefore more scary - side of the daleks. For example, in TDOTD I kinda wanted them to kill the children on Gallifrey, but their hesitation made them look feeble. This would have brought back some of the fear factor but maybe was a bit too much for a family programme
@VictorWong1 What changed circumstances mean he can no longer exist? :S please excuse my lack of Classic Who knowledge, I'm working through them slowly
6 months, 1 week ago on A forecast on Capaldi’s Doctor: The Frustrated Optimist
Slightly related to the above article...the Valeyard. He is supposed to have been created between the Doctor's 12th and 13th incarnations (i.e. when Tennant regenerated into Smith)...This coincides with the Eleventh Hour and at one point in the episode, a mysterious figure runs past one of the windows in Amelia Pond's house. Based on Moffat's story arc, we are supposed to believe that it was a Silent or something to do with the Alliance.
WHAT IF it was the Valeyard, a weakened, probably naked (don't ask why - not a fantasy), and evil amalgamation of the Doctor.....Somewhere out there now
Only a 4 I'm afraid, although most people seem to enjoy it, I just don't enjoy it as the threats are both quite rubbish and Amy and Rory annoy me in the Ledworth scenes, weak link on series 5 for me

@TheRaggedyDoctor I agree that TDOTD was good, great in fact, so Im not entirely sure whether my theory would have worked haha
6 months, 2 weeks ago on What if… the Ninth Doctor was the War Doctor?
I think 9 could have still appeared in the 50th special without altering all of these plots, if he had appeared in TDOTD in the same way as 10...
How about if 9 had just left Rose for the first time (having only told her that he can travel in space) before going on all the adventures described by Clive (1.1) - including Krakatoa, where he gets too close to the explosion and is given the time fission as an escape route by the moment...thus 9 meeting 10, 11 and War in 15-whatever-it-was. So on and so forth, the story has 4 doctors instead of 3 and they all go their separate ways at the end.
Having said this, the special may have needed to be 90 mins instead of 75 and maybe it could have been called 'The Four Doctors' - which ties in with old specials...
8-8-5 so far, this has to be one of the weak links for series 5 unfortunately :/
