Hmm, the scene of an old episode. Very interesting!

I will always be silently heartbroken that Eccleston chose not to appear, especially after teasing that there might be some more for his doctor to do, but in the end, that was his decision and I respect that, as an actor and performer. And besides, I will always remember...when his doctor saved Gallifrey ;)

This is truly, one of the greatest episodes of Doctor Who, and indeed, Television, ever! A wealth of thought provoking ideas, The Doctor, powerless ? It's a scary thought to behold, and comes together so well through Tennant's supreme acting. Easy 10/10, the best episode of Series 4 too

I'm faced with a near impossible choice, my favourite episode of Game of Thrones against one of the best episodes of Doctor Who ever. And then An Adventure in Space and Time and The Five(ish) Doctors added into the mix too! Impossible!

Gallifrey Falls...No More. He delivered that line with such prestige! Honestly, I wouldn't want him to return again. The ending of TDoTD was fantastic and it was amazing having him back, clearly playing a future incarnation of the doctor, but keep it as a one off. I'd like to be looking back, forty nine years from now, in anticipation of the 100th Anniversary Episode(s) and fondly remember that, that mad, jelly baby loving Doctor came back, more than 30 years after his last appearance, not, 30 years later, and then a few years after that too.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Capaldi! If only there was something to mark this momentous occasion, like, say, the first teaser trailer to your first full series as The Doctor. *Sighs* Well, a man can dream :P

Can do nothing but agree with him. Series 5 had everything Doctor Who should have!

I too thought the episode was thoroughly disappointing. Especially the point about seeing "25 different types of Daleks" That really, really got my hopes up! I thought that there might have been another type of sect on the Asylum filled with classic Daleks from different encounters, all joined together to defeat the doctor. Instead we get about four seconds of a Spiradon Dalek and a few 60's ones, if at all (only seen the episode twice) But you make some excellent points. Very well written article :)

This would actually have been an amazing plot twist to be honest. And it would have been funny, as a bunch of people said AFTER Capaldi had been cast that they would have been okay with a black guy in the role, would have been interesting to see their reaction, had this been true!

He's definitely not The Master. However it would be cool if he was a time lord in disguise, perhaps playing that timelord who informed The Third Doctor that The Master was on Earth ? This one has been sent through the crack to observe and report. After he finds The Doctor he decides to keep tabs on him, and report his findings to the high council or something ? Would be quite interesting in my opinion. But I don't want a new big arc about another companion for a while, I know that much!

You know, I can actually see him turning out to be a bad guy (you heard it here first :P) Perhaps he's a disciple of The Master or maybe The Sontarans and he's implanted as a teacher in present day on the off chance that The Doctor invites him along on his travels, and he's there to learn the "secret" of the Tardis, the secret to time travel! Would be quite cool. And have it revealed in the Premier of Series 10 or something, would be quite cool in my opinion

Rassilon - Timothy Dalton. He was perfect. The Rani - Lesley Sharp yeah yeah she's been on the show before. But she was magnificent. Borusa - David Threlfall. Romana - Eileen Atkins, before she regenerates into a younger version. And, well, we know who the next Master is going to be, or so i hope!

Hmm, would I travel with the doctor ? Pros and Cons. Cons - I'd probably die. Pro - I'd probably die in a very cool way. Yeah, good enough for me, just going to pack my suitcase and wait in the garden!
I wouldn't say it's unpopular nor unfair an opinion. Strax has divided the fans, this much is clear to me. I enjoyed his earlier appearances but as time went on I began to grow tired of the same recycled jokes (ie. getting confused with a humans gender etc) And that in itself made The Sontaran's a bit of a parody in my opinion. I hope we see them again soon, properly. Have a two/three parter and bring them back as true enemies of the doctor. This could be interesting to see how Strax would react and how other sontarans would react to seeing Strax in the way that he does. But kill him off! Would be amazing to just see a fleet of Sontarans come out of a ship and see the doctor facing them and the paternoster gang. Single out Strax, humiliate him and then kill him off, brutally. I'm talking Game of Thrones Red Wedding style hahaha

Happy Birthday Mr. Eccleston! I met you a long, long time ago outside the West Yorkshire Playhouse, you were magnificent then and are now. You were The Doctor when it mattered, and you inspired hope, gave children a figure of such magnificent on television. I'm sad that you decided to leave after one season, but I understand completely why you did, and I respect your decision. Thank you for bringing back Doctor Who with such gravitas. Oh, and you uttered my favourite lines of any Doctor (currently that is!)

Excellent article. It really annoys me when people make such issues when it comes to a persons orientation, it is nothing to do with them! And now we, humans, have reduced ourselves to a point where, it's no longer enough to moan about people in the real world who may or may not be homosexual, but have turned to tv/film characters etc. At the end of the day, I live by a good old fashioned saying, The heart wants what the heart wants. I think sexuality is portrayed quite well in Doctor Who.

Sort of disappointed about this. Really don't want them to return. They were perfect as a one off monster, in my opinion
1 year ago on Series 8: A Returning Character & Monster
Can't wait to see what type of doctor he's going to be! Excellent article btw. I had a dream last night, a doctor who dream of course with Capaldi, and Clara had just been killed by the daleks, (I know, everyone wants to give them a rest, it was only a dream remember! :P) and then everything turned into slow motion as The Doctor just falls to his knees, then just doubles over, the loss was far too much for him. while Peter Gabriel's My Body is a cage started playing (seriously, give this a listen, it's brilliant!) The last we see in this episode is him slowly, tearfully carrying her body back into the Tardis. At the start of the next, we see him slaying, and I mean slaying The Entire Dalek fleet he was previously up against, and we see...the eyes, those eyes of his. Cold. Almost dead now. As he's about to finish off the entire fleet, kill them all, he hears a noise. Turns around and sees a little boy. The boy simply says "This isn't The Doctor" and disappears. The boy was the incarnation of The Time Lord before he took the name, The Doctor. Was really quite cool, in my head to see this play out. I think he's going to have a really cold fury about him, basically, you would be wise not to cross him.
1 year ago on A forecast on Capaldi’s Doctor: The Frustrated Optimist
I think, overall, her story is in fact done. However, as Moffat says, if the story required her return it would be cool to see her opposite Capaldi, especially given that Peter is slightly older than Alex, it could add a new dimension to their relationship.

I initially didn't want it explained, but I have to say, your theories, specifically the second one has swayed me, it would be very cool to see that! What I really don't want though is it drawn out over the course of Capaldi's first season, just a casual sort of explanation would be cool, nothing overly complex!

I love Eccleston. He's my favourite Doctor since the Relaunch.
But I was really annoyed that he didn't come back, and heartbroken. I know he doesn't like going back to do the same thing, but come on! the 50th Anniversary Episode of the biggest(?) show in the world and he says no! Something tells me he's really going to regret that decision in the years to come.
It would be cool to see the differences there would have been in actions/dialogue had 9 been the War Doctor.
Still, we got Hurt and he was dare I say it, fantastic!
