Why couldn't it be follow the butterflies?
OMG has anybody here read the Fourth Doctor Novel "Festival of Death?" in that book there were spider-like creatures who put themselves back together if dismembered and were always hungry for flesh. If I recall correctly this thing looks a bit like the description, maybe it could be one of those things? Moffat did seem to borrow the creature from "Listen" (if there was one) from a previously written short story.
He just referenced River! ERMAHGERD! OTP (Commences fanboy spasm attack)

Let's not jump on the Moffat hate wagon. That's silly, he didn't even write this one.

Lots of references to the past, I hope. The pictures seem to indicate this, with all the emphasis on Coal Hill school, and it may not be intentional but Capaldi seems to be rocking a very Tennant-esque coat and there's that guy with the bow tie. I'm happy :)

Thanks for the nightmares.

This actually alarms me very much. Capaldi has already done some things that I thought were a bit too much for the Doctor, I hope this isn't much worse...I'm worried about another Sylvester McCoy happening if he starts to get too dark. I hope the show isn't too dramatically changed and/or damaged by what goes down in this episode...

I really hope so...I really did not like "he was dead already, I was saving us" very much. That bothered me waaaay more than a television show logically should I spent hours morally dissecting that in my head to try and make it come out as a perfectly morally sound thing to do. I couldn't quite convince myself in the end. :)

...I've been a bad person. I was so excited to see this episode that I found the script and started reading it. Guilt and disappointment for having spoiled it for myself quickly set in after the first two pages though and I stopped reading. In some ways, it ended up a good thing, I didn't ruin much and it just got me more excited to see the episode, but then again it also made me incredibly guilty for doing that to the poor BBC and breaking my commitment not to soil-er, spoil myself. DANG FLABBIT
I once dreamed I was being chased with my grandmother away from baby weeping angels, and this was a little bit before Angels Take Manhattan came out. I have the gift of prophecy XD perhaps there is some truth to your dream, too ;)
I liked it, but I kind of agree with David's verdict in that it seemed a little too early in the season for an episode like this. I really did like it though, and I loved seeing the lighter, more comical side of Capaldi's Doctor. This episode really cemented him as The Doctor, for me. The first two, I still had my reservations and wasn't quite sure what to think of Capaldi yet. The scene in "Into the Dalek" where he gave the guy the pill under the false pretense of saving him really jarred me. That was just flat out "undoctorly" in my opinion, and really made me doubt if I was going to like this Doctor as much for a minute there. Sherwood was a reassuring "Deep Breath" for me (pun intended :) that this is still the same Doctor we've known and loved for 50 years, regardless of his icier side.

I love the thing going on with Capaldi and his love of chalk. I think that's going to be one of his trademarks.

If he might not be in series nine, that doesn't bode well for Clara, as their characters seem to be paired for the long haul...did he possibly just give away that Clara is leaving us?

That's because American tv is generally less sensitive than British. I applaud the BBC for cutting the scene.

EXTREMELY looking forward to this!! It's going to be amazing, it looks funny, Clara looks gorgeous in that dress, and the costumes remind me a lot of Time Warrior. Unfortunately, I am going to have to wait to get it on iTunes the day after because I have a stupid hike I have to go on the day of. GGAAAAAAAAHHH -_- Perhaps I will fake sick.

I think an ex-soldier is exactly what Clara needs in a boyfriend. We learned thanks to Strax that she likes muscular young sporty men, and she is also well established as a bossy control freak; that works great because soldiers are great at following orders XD I think "Pink Soufflé" will be super cute.

I liked it, but something about it seemed a little off...not sure what is bothering me so much... The Doctor's treatment of Ross really had me unsettled. It seemed a bit callous to tell him to trust him, then just let him be killed. The Doctor is many things, among them occasionally a man of questionable morality, but I am a firm believer that he has always been fundamentally good, and even rougher Doctors like one and six were deep down very kind. I think the Doctor's treatment of Ross was a very un-doctorly thing to do that really threw me off. Also, I would have liked to see Rusty die in the end, or the Doctor reprogram him back or something. It just felt unresolved to me, and a little too convenient that Rusty was headed off to kill all the Daleks.
Many people have expressed that they didn't like the Doctor's treatment of soldiers, and I have to say I agree with this a bit...it's inconsistent with the show's past. The Doctor has had soldier friends and companions in the past. The Brig is a perfect example. He was a great military mind, and also a man the Doctor deeply loved and trusted as a friend. 7/10 for me for these reasons, as much as it pains me to rate an episode I really enjoyed so much so low.
Anybody decipher the codes? I'm not complicated, I don't do puzzles, frankly I don't have the attention span.

These statistics make Doctor Who look homophobic, but in reality they're probably a lot better than other shows. I would say most TV shows don't even have five "non heterosexual" characters. Doctor Who is a lot more LGBT inclusive than most media these days, especially family shows.

Am I the only one that thought that man with the gun was Paul mcgann at first? Blimey that's an uncanny resemblance.

Also, I don't really view killing a droid as murder. The half face man technically wasn't alive in my opinion; perhaps in his centuries of becoming "more human" he did pick up something close to a life and maybe even some emotions, but he's still technically a robot. If 12 did kill him, it wasn't much worse than smashing a computer. I would absolutely destroy a sentient piece of technology if it meant saving many real, human lives.
3 months, 4 weeks ago on Whodunnit? The Fate of the Half-Face Man
Hmmm there should be an "other" option. I don't think it's quite as simple as that. My theory is that there really wasn't much we didn't see; the half face man killed himself, but because of the Doctor's manipulation, a la Sylvester McCoy. Thus I can't really say it was one or the other...I think both had a hand in it.
I seriously doubt she is River and I really hope not too. I do really, really want River back, but as Alex Kingston.
3 months, 4 weeks ago on Introducing Missy the “Gatekeeper”: Who is She?
I think she will be someone entirely new, although I would love for her to be the Rani...whoever she is, I am almost certain she is the woman in the shop, and I think she has a lot to do with The Doctor and Clara and has some motive for keeping them together.
I thought it was amazing, I think it's dumb that anyone would think it undermined Capaldi. If anything, it made the transition so much easier. It reassured fans that this was the same Doctor, and that's always hard to grasp at first. It was perfect, could not have been done better.

I LOVED IT! Easily, the best post regeneration episode in my opinion, although Spearheads was pretty great and I'm a big fan of Robot and The Eleventh Hour. We wanted more mature, and we got it. It was quite dark at times, especially with the skin balloon. I found Strax quite hilarious in this one actually, I think they used his character well, he wasn't quite as overwhelming as usual. The gag where he throws the paper at Clara's face made me laugh pretty hard XD
I have complete faith in Capaldi. He is going to be one of the best. He nailed it, he was just incredible. And Matt's appearance was just perfect. I really needed that closure, I felt that Time of the Doctor was too abrupt and we didn't really get a fair goodbye. That phone call to Clara was exactly what I needed, and exactly what she needed too. I love that it addressed very clearly that this is and always will be THE DOCTOR; he's still the exact same man. Sometimes, fans tend to view each of the regenerations as separate people, and that simply isn't how it is. It was a success in my opinion and I look forward to a hopefully very long tenure with Peter Capaldi.
Crap XD well...maybe I'll request she leave the room....
Quick question, I have yet to see it, are there any overtly lesbian scenes between them...? I will be watching at my grandmas house, I've yet to see it, and she's a bit homophobe...
I actually think the largest portion of the audience these days are teens, just for the record...I actually would like some of the darker sides of the show to be explored a bit more, Doctor Who was originally considered pretty violent for family television and I don't see why they shouldn't push the limits a bit more these days. I don't want a "dark" Doctor Who, but it could use a bit more chill factor especially with the daleks these days. Kids can handle a lot more than they're given credit for. However, I wouldn't want Doctor Who to lose its light, funny moments. Those played an enormous factor in endearing me personally to the show, especially in Matt's era. The best part about Doctor Who is that it has always been something the whole family can enjoy. It's a show adults can watch and feel like a kid again, and it's a show kids can watch and gain a little more of an adult understanding on many aspects of life.

I notice he's wearing a vest in these, not a cardigan.
This gives me a sense of foreboding...I hope Doctor Who doesn't go the same way it did in the 80s. This show needs to last another 50 years! Also, another interesting similarity is the big anniversary special during the "new young man"'s tenure. Davison had the Five Doctors, Smith had Day of the Doctor.

Colin Baker is not the top of my list, I'll admit, but honestly half of that owes to his costume. Very dreadful decision in my opinion. Otherwise, once you can look past the rainbow, he really is a very lovely Doctor. He's complex, and harder to love at first, and it made for a very unique and interesting period of the show. I think he gets a bit of a negative reputation mostly just from first impressions. He's a Doctor you have to stick with for a bit to learn to like him.

I only hope it doesn't get too soapy. We've had all kinds of romances lately, I would have hoped to tone it down a bit, more like an Ian/Barbara type relationship...oh well, we shall see, maybe I'll end up loving Danny and Clara :)

I expect that he will probably become a heartthrob to many regardless of his age XD there's a big difference between "unattractive" and "unconventionally attractive." No Doctor Who actor has ever been a Channing Tatum and I say thank God for that. They all have their charm, and I'd say even codgery old Hartnell and rainbow man Colin Baker could be sexy to some! The Doctor has always challenged the big buff hollywood hot guy in tights stereotype for male leads, and that's one of my favourite parts about Doctor Who. We have enough unrealistic, flawlessly photoshopped male (and female) heroes in the media. The Doctor is and will always be ten times sexier because he's a very real looking man with character in his features! Which is ironic, because he's also an alien :)

I love Clara! I was a bit skeptical at first but all my doubts vanished when Day of the Doctor aired. I must disagree, in the second article, about her caring more about the turkey than anything else during Time of the Doctor...the turkey really faded out of the plot almost entirely very quickly, she only cared about staying with the Doctor and helping him.
