No - it was a child in a mask.

@social_crime I think you might be right… there was another mention of Clara's "death date" in this episode which she refused to know...

@JamesSkippins I'm surprised you found it childish - I'm sure most people would agree it was one of the most mature and adult stories Doctor Who has really done. The script was incredibly multilayered.
@Huknar Have you seen The Twin Dilemma… or Timelash… or Time and the Rani… or Fear Her? :p

Thank goodness I didn't read this review before watching the episode!

Whilst it is not his accent to blame, I must admit I've struggled to hear a few lines every episode due to Capaldi's volume level being lower than that of other characters (particularly the opening scene of Deep Breath). The balancing with the music has also not been great at times, but I know people have complained about this for years.

2 weeks ago on Ben Miller Would Love To Play the Doctor
@MisterMeanour Well it's more that the news is very fresh in people's minds, and a family programme showing decapitation casually so soon after this tragic event is likely to upset the families and friends of those killed - it just wouldn't be particularly tasteful so soon after this horrific event.
2 weeks, 1 day ago on BBC Cuts Robot of Sherwood Scene
@luckemasse @The Mind Probe Oh yes, that's true! Although that was more off-screen whereas this sounds like it's going to be more obvious if it's the conclusion of a long battle.
A decapitation in Doctor Who sounds very dark to begin with, so I assume this confirms that whoever was going to be beheaded was a robot… I hope cutting this isn't jarring and I hope the DVD shows the full version, but it's a good call from the BBC in light of recent events.
One of the longest-standing companions ever?! She will have done less than 2 series!

@Gustaff I'm not sure, but I think it sounds more like Two Steps From Hell with those sorts of risers and electronics than Murray Gold

This would be absolutely terrible unless a charity special which is non-canon. When you try to combine two different TV worlds you end up with disasters like Dimensions in Time!

@Xaven There's another non-private one, just type in "doctor who series 8 opening titles official leaked" to youtube :)

I really hope Billy Hanshaw gets properly credited in the end titles, and he really deserves to be paid as some bits are identical.
@Stradiwhovius I hated the TARDIS doors for the fact that they opened outwards at the end of the title sequence, not inwards like in the programme!
Hmm, can't believe many fans would get this… far too much for 1 episode, especially considering the box set will be out a couple of months later!

I'm assuming he will do the average of 3 series, which is the perfect time to develop a Doctor and be loved and missed, without ruining your career!

The more I read about this series, the more it seems like they're trying to do the Sixth Doctor... but done well! More like his audio adventures than first series.

Looks like Capaldi tries on various different costumes throughout the episode before settling on his final one!

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop at Commonwealth Games 2014 is incredible! I love the Peter Howell theme tune, so funky!

@supermoff @LGwalchmai95 Was he really influenced by Skyfall? Filming on Bells took place over a month before Skyfall was released!
@supermoff @The Mind Probe Yeah he's another favourite of mine! Joe Ahearne, Adam Smith and Toby Haynes also spring to mind as directors who need to return!
1 month, 4 weeks ago on Moffat: Peter Jackson Episode Will Probably Happen
I'd rather see Graeme Harper return if I'm honest… But Peter Jackson would bring a lot of attention to the show!
@WiblyWoblyTimyWimyMOFFAT I think it means responding to the phone call Matt got at the very end of The Big Bang about a Mummy on the Orient Express. This had already been rumoured for this episode :)

Reading this list makes me realise how little we actually know about this series!
"808. Moffat playing the long game with a callback to something from Matt’s first series. A brilliant idea of a monster. Foxes singing."
Seems like the rumour of a Mummy on the Orient Express may be true!
@Rani Nose Bringing back the Autons would be a great idea!
2 months ago on Will There Be a 10th Anniversary Special for the Revival?
I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure I read in an interview with Steven Moffat in DWM that The Three Doctors was never really planned as a 10 year anniversary special, and it's just gained that reputation since.
@The Outer Space K9 Very true, and I would have thought that 2-parters would be cheaper as you don't need brand new sets for the second part.
2 months ago on Are Longer Stories Better? Five Classics
@Planet of the Deaf I think that the cliffhanger to Episode 6 is, quite possibly, the most moving moment of Classic Who… Incredible acting, and something that you can only get away with because it's a parallel universe!
Also HAVOC are on top form throughout!
Fantastic article - Inferno is one of my favourite stories ever, and I agree about what you said about the others. The only one of your choices that I feel is padded is The War Games, which I think would have made an even stronger 8-parter. Having said this, the last 2 episodes are phenomenal!
@Planet of the Deaf @The Mind Probe @ShameOnSM I think 6 only shows some darker elements during The Trial of a Time Lord, particularly after (SPOILER) Peri's death, and during the "That's what it takes to be really corrupt" speech.
2 months ago on How Far Into Darkness will the 12th Doctor Take Us?
@Planet of the Deaf @The Mind Probe @ShameOnSM Very true, which raises the question of if any of the Doctors have really been dark, or at least consistently dark… I suppose they all have a different scale of darkness, and I'd say Eccleston is the darkest and Troughton is the least dark.
@ShameOnSM Maybe late Tennant too! (I hate that I can't edit previous comments!)
@ShameOnSM Similarly the 1st Doctor which some consider "dark" I just consider "grumpy", and yet he had a really childish playful side. I think the only "dark" Doctors are Hurt, Eccleston, and late McCoy.
@ShameOnSM @The Mind Probe I was never convinced that the 6th Doctor was really "dark", just really "angry", and that changed over time. Whereas Eccleston seemed a really hurt and damaged Doctor.
I just hope they don't do a Christian Bale Batman level of darkness!
Great article! I'm hoping he's about the same level of darkness as Eccleston, who could get angry with a companion (such as at Rose in Father's Day) but still have a laugh and a smile (Everybody lives!)
@Richy Woo Not necessarily - I've heard they get to see some scripts and filming of the new series, so can tailor their characterisation of the Doctor better.
