I've got the same dilemma with Butler myself. He needs 1 more appearance at 1B (espn league) and then his value jumps big time being eligible for 1B and IF utility spot. I'd for sure wait for Butler to gain that 1B eligibility before moving him (or if you're looking to get him, grab him now before he gets it.)
I agree Ellsbury wont reach the expectations, but I currently benched Butler for Ellsbury at the UT spot because I'm in need of steals and I have a top spot in the other hitting categories. The 4 OF i'm currently playing are Cargo, Pence, Choo, De Aza and Ellsbury at the UT spot. I have Bautista at my IF/UT spot. Should I get Butler back in there and move out one of the other guys? Choo has been on fire and De Aza has great matchups this week and again...I need those steals.

Tell me about it! I'm just lucky I'm up at the top of the win column and my ace finally gets a W at the all-star break.
Love the all-star break cuz now teams are gonna start making trades for the 2nd half push. Got an offer for Asdrubal Cabrera (14th rd keeper). I can get either Hosmer or Goldschmidt (16th rd keeper). My backup SS is Aviles right now, but I'd look to get Everth in free agency cuz I do need speed. My 1B options now are Dunn and Santana (and hopefully Billy Butler if he gets 1 more game under his belt). I think I gotta pull the trigger and I'm thinking Hosmer over Goldy. Hosmer is only hitting .233 and he's still got the same power numbers Goldy has who is hitting .300.

We only do free agent pickups once a month, and if a guy isnt drafted, he cant be picked up until he gets called up to the majors. That's the only reason why they are still available.
I was getting ready to trade Matt Moore for Michael Bourn until Beachy went down, now I gotta make a decision. A big part depends on if I get one of those 2 starters because with only pickups every month, it's important to have depth. With Ellsbury coming back, I'm going to have a loaded OF with CarGo, Bautista, Pence, Choo, De Aza and only 4 spots (would be 5 but Billy Butler takes my UT spot cuz he's only a DH). With Beltre and Lawrie at 3B and IF, Bautista takes that OF spot.
Should I still go for Bourn? I'm hurtin in SB

Speaking of keeper leagues, would you hang onto Brandon Beachy in a 10 team keeper league? He's at 17th round value and will have one more year (next year) at that price. If he was guaranteed to start the year healthy I'd be more likely to consider it, but the fact that he isn't I'm thinking it's not worth it. My pitching staff looks like this: Lee, CJ Wilson, Sale, Peavy, Moore, Worley, Lynn, Parker. I would think picking up a Bauer and/or Wade Miley would be worth it for this year. Agree?
@CharlieSaponara Thanks so much guys. I put the offer out there, givin him the choice between Lynn or Peavy. I'd like to get a closer thrown in there as well. He has 4 (Nathan, Axford, Francisco, Capps). Francisco seems like the target for me. Nathan and Axford he wont move. Capps has better numbers overall, but Francisco has been solid of late and I think the lesser of the 2 to lose their job. With his early struggles, the Mets stuck with him and are being rewarded and Capps is probably trade bait for the Twins down the road.

Is it a good time to buy on Cano? The guy's asking price is a 3B and pitcher (it's a lot, but I'm gonna try to get a closer thrown in as well). My 2B options are Altuve and Aviles. My 3B options are Beltre, Bautista, Lawrie, and Aviles qualifies as well. It's a keeper league. Beltre is 2nd round, Lawrie is 17th. That alone has me thinking I should put forth Beltre (and I know he likes Beltre). I like the .300 avg and power Beltre brings. I like the speed Lawrie brings (and I am hurting in steals) and decent power. As far as pitchers go, I refuse to trade Lee, Wilson (15th rd), Beachy (16th rd), or Sale (18th rd). That leaves Peavy, Parker, Worley, Moore, Lynn. Keeper value aside, I love what Peavy is doing but I wonder how much longer before he breaks down. Moore has stuff and I'd like to see what more he can do. Parker I like, and in Oakland even more. Worley he wont go for. Lance Lynn is my question mark. I keep thinking he's gonna just fall off, but he doesnt. How would you rank them in order of including them in a deal?
Could also possibly get Cano for Beltre. The guy who has Cano has Kipnis and is in desperate need of a 3B. I dont know if I'm over trading now (I have a tendency to do that). I like Altuve, but lets be honest...Cano is the better play over the long haul. Minus the avg, Aviles actually matches in HRs and has more RBIs, but again...I think this a solid buy-low on Cano. I do like Beltre in that Texas lineup, but to get Beltre numbers at 2nd and be able to play Bautista at 3B might be worth it. Neither are keepers (Cano 1st rd and Beltre 2nd). If i was to move Beltre and Lawrie, guys like Seager/Johnson are avil in free agency as other backups and Aviles is more than fine as a backup for a week or 2 if Bautista went down....thats even if the Lawrie deal happened.
Am I overtrading?

I gotta offer Aceves too cuz he will want to replace the closer. But I'm with you, sometimes you have to make an "overpay" to get a guy and if you have a solid team left it can work out. Gonzo/Lester is def a lot to pay for Trout, but that sounds like a move I'd do too if I were you. Chances are Gonzo and Lester wont be kept and you'll have a leg up next year with a 5 category stud. And thats just talkin about next year.
I'm not big on keeping closers either, but Chapman is a great keeper value too and who knows what is in store for next year. I have a thing for good relievers who turn into starters. CJ Wilson, Sale. They're a gamble, but if they work out they are usually had at great values. I got CJ in the 14th 2 years ago and Sale in the 18th this year.
I really need to be in more than 1 league. I love this stuff LOL
I hate trading for closers but i blew acquiring chapman and its eating me alive haha. I traded league for jarrod parker instead of chapman, and while i feel parker was a good get for me, id love to get chapman. Im prob gonna have to overpay...heres what im thinking so please talk me off the ledge lol.
My roster is ruiz, dunn, altuve, cabrera, beltre, if-bautista, cargo, pence, choo, de aza, ut-butler with carlos santana, aviles, lawrie, ellsbury, gwynn on the bench.
Pitching is lee, wilson, beachy, sale, peavy, moore, parker, lynn, worley, frieri, aceves, bailey (4 sp, 1 any pitcher, 2 relievers). Aceves has been okay and ive got bailey as insurance, but im 7th in saves and would love to have chapman/frieri as the closers. Can always go with 3 closers if i feel the need to make a run in that category. Im tops in wins, ks, and near the top in era/whip.
The guy who has chapman is in 2nd. Hes a good owner and it will take a little to get chapman. He is hurting at 3b so i could offer either beltre or lawrie. Its a keeper league and lawrie is an amazing value at 17th round and beltre is a 2nd rounder but i feel much more stable with beltre. Ive got a good outfield and i can ise bautista at 3rd if something happens to beltre. Aviles is also 3b eligible. Im trying to win now so im thinking of offering lawrie. Im currently in first and lawrie isnt a lock to play every week for me.
Am i stupid?
forgot Matt Moore also. You are right, I probably should do that. I'd like to hold onto Parker (looked pretty good today) just because it is a keeper league and he would be a potential 17th rd pick if he does find his stroke. I like Samardjiza too. I dont know how much longer Lance Lynn is gonna last or Peavy health-wise. My offense is pretty stacked, just gotta decide whether i wanna stick this month out with Carlos Santana/Adam Dunn as my 1B options. Right now, I'm playing the hot Carlos Ruiz so it works out with Santana at 1B and Dunn at IF utility. Only guy I'd consider would be Yonder Alonso (who i drafted originally) cuz of the OF eligibility also. Would love to see Hosmer continue to sink so Butler gets 1B eligible. I have a tendency to over-tinker with my squad but I'm in first and I've got good pieces. Just need saves/steals really.
C- Ruiz, 1B - Santana, 2B - Altuve, SS - Cabrera, 3B - Beltre, IF - Dunn, OF(4) - CarGo, Bautista, Pence, Choo, UT - Butler. Bench: Lawrie, Ellsbury, Aviles Parra, Aybar, Werth, Ike (last 4 will be dropped). Thinking of adding De Aza for speed (who knows what Ellsbury will be about when he returns), 2 relief pitchers (one being Bailey as a handcuff for Aceves) and then prob McDonald
2 years, 3 months ago on Daily Notes - The Couple of Guys Under the Radar Edition | Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove
If i'm unable to get Addison Reed or Rafael Soriano, I will go with Clippard. I might still snag Ernesto anyway hoping he pulls a Chapman down the road. Either him or I go with an Ervin, Samardzjia, McDonald type starter. Lee, Wilson, Beachy, Peavy, Lynn, Sale, Worley, Parker...dont really need another starter
It was right when Rivera went down and Sale was supposedly being moved into the closer's role. I had Aceves and League and figured I should take a starter to replace Sale. I still shouldve known better regardless of the eventual move to the closer role for Chapman cuz his K numbers are that of a starter and his ERA/WHIP are great. Middle relief guys with great K/9 rates with good ERA/WHIP stats in non-hold leagues (like mine) really shouldnt get overlooked especially if a good starting staff is in place. Now i decide do I go after a guy like Ernesto Frieri in free agency who is Chapman like. Maybe a Tyler Clippard who will get some save opportunities. We do monthly free agent pickups in our league so whoever I've got for the month of June. Some big decisions overall to make
Really hope parker can live up to his talent and find some control. Made a big mistake asking for parker when I traded league instead of taking chapman who was offered
@mark.schruender I agree completely. I've been burned by the likes of Pierre types before. I do like De Aza however, he might still be a pickup for me if i've got the roster space. I actually would prefer to do a 2 for 1 and maybe if he's a biter on Ike Davis, I could get Betancourt. I'm sick of Davis (just like I'm sick of Aybar but no one is gonna buy him) and his 1B options are trash. Soriano, Reed, Thayer are all available in free agency, but if I could get Betancourt then I can go for a LaHair, LaRoche, or take a flier on a young kid like Alonso or Snyder (who just needs the playing time it seems).
2 years, 3 months ago on Brett Lawrie Gets 4 Game Suspension | Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove
Ill take a close 20/20 with a good avg from Lawrie at 17th rd money in my keeper league.
Lookin to upgrade in speed/runs from the league leader in steals (who is in desperate need of starting pitching). Maybin and Bourn and im leaning twd Bourn with a better offense and a better avg. My staff is lee, cj, beachy, worley, lynn, sale, moore, parker, peavy. We use 4 starters, 1 general, and 2 relief (where sale and lynn are eligible for too). I was thinking of including 2 of these 3: moore (5th rd) peavy (17th rd) parker (17th rd). I was big on moore and know he's got great stuff but im not gonna keep him at that price and right now he's ridin the bench. Peavy has been good but he's old and avter reading the previous article im thinkin I should sell high. Parker is young, unproven but he also has great stuff and gotta love the home park help.
It might be a little overpay, but idk when ellsbury is coming back (and what he'll be about). I've got a great outfield with cargo, bautista, pence, and choo but speed is what I need.
Would u make a move like this?
In free agency, I could grab a guy like de aza or a straight burner like campana but I think bourn is the way to go and those 3 pitchers can be replaced with free agent arms like ervin, samardjia, smyly, bass etc for spot starts.
It actually is pretty competitive, but it stuns me how some of the guys load up on relievers. I find its always easy to trade for saves if you need it. I learned my lesson last year when I picked up Ryan Madson with my first selection and missed out on Eric Hosmer by 1 waiver spot with my 2nd. Ended up trading Madson later on in a deal for Asdrubal but if i'm in a spot where I need it, I can always make a move. I'm currently tied for last with 6 saves but the leader has 15 and I've only been playing 1 closer.

Thats a solid point about Aceves, but Bailey is on the free agent wire and I can pick him up if need be.
Team A gives Mike Aviles (16th rd $) 2B/SS/3B eligible
I give Josh Willingham (17th rd $) / Rickie Weeks (expiring)
5x5 10 team mixed roto keeper. weekly lineups, monthly free agent pickups. My OF already loaded with CarGo, Bautista, Pence, Choo, and Ellsbury (once back from DL).
Team B gives Jarrod Parker (17th rd $)
I give Brandon League (14th rd $) OR Alfredo Aceves (17th rd $).
I'm thinking League. Aceves gets more K's, Boston is gonna turn it around soon and they seem set on Aceves in the pen. League is in his last year, could be trade bait by the middle of the year, and while saves are important, there's always gonna be new options every month in free agency. Plus, with Chris Sale's transition to closer I now have 3 and up until this point I've only played 1 a week. 4 SP spots, 2 RP, and 1 P. I've been going with 6 starters because Lance Lynn and Sale both had RP eligibility. I've got a staff of Lee, Wilson, Beachy, Worley, Peavy, Lynn, Moore (Sale). Young good arm in Parker in a great ballpark. I'm thinking yes.
The offer I got was Kipnis (14th) and closer Francisco (14th but i'd never keep) for Beltre (2nd) and Weeks (expiring). I'm very hesitant to trade Beltre cuz he's a great hitter in a great lineup in a great park. Even with only 124 gms played last year, he was 30-100-.300. The injuries concern me, but I do have Lawrie and Bautista at 3rd if need be. I'm high on Kipnis, he adds the speed, but is he gonna produce like that? I think I can get more for Beltre than Kipnis and a closer.
2 years, 3 months ago on Daily Notes | Time to Drop Rickie Weeks? | Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove
Funny you posted this because I'm also thinking of getting rid of Weeks. I'm in a 10 team 5x5 mixed roto league and I kept Weeks in the last year of his contract. I've picked up Altuve and currently have him in there. I just missed out on getting Kipnis in the draft (14th rd $) but I'm thinking of trying to deal for him. The key piece to use as trade bait is gonna be either Adrian Beltre (2nd rd $) or Bautista (free agent next year). I also have Lawrie as my 3B, use Beltre as my utility IF and Bautista in my OF. I know Bautista is gonna heat up power wise eventually, and I really like Beltre but his health is worrying me about lasting a whole season. Another team is also interested in a 3B, and a potential deal I could make would involve Adam Wainwright (16th rd money). I think thats a great price for a guy like Waino, but i'm hesitant to pull the trigger on dealing either of these 2 so early.
Would you include Bautista or Beltre in a deal involving Waino or Kipnis?
could argue this either way, but i think it really depends on a few things. is there a DH spot in your league? If so, nothing wrong with a surplus of offense and all 4 can be in the lineup daily which can lead you to drafting some stud pitching earlier than planned. If you are having to sit one weekly, then you got a little more to think about. Felix as a 5th rounder is a good price, but not as good as Hosmer in the 22nd. While i agree that SP is vital in a H2H league, position players with big numbers are invaluable. Question is can you get a similar player in that 5th round or a round or 2 earlier? Dont know the depth of the starting pitching available in your draft, but if there are quality comparable options I think you're better off grabbing one even if its a round or 2 earlier because you have a legit 5 category contributor towards the end of the draft.
Keeping the better bats allows for flexibility if injury occurs, allows for better trade value down the stretch if you need a piece or 2 to help you win it all, and its much easier to pickup a pitcher having a solid year than a potential 5 category player posting a line of .300/25/100. There was a reason why you drafted him before ever stepping foot into the big leagues so I'd hang onto him.
Besides, I've always been a bit skeptical of Beltre; Miggy gaining 3B eligibility could allow you to play him there but does that effect his bat; Fielder moving to a new team and new league with that big contract he's gotta back up now (we saw Crawford melt down and he's not a power guy). Never hurts to have insurance.
