This is why STL fans come across as arrogant. They take shots at MIL not having a WS title and at Braun, and suggest their WS win last year wasn't worth it because a group of fair-weather idiot fans think it'll happen again this year? Jeez, must be really tough to deal with that. I would trade some idiots' blathering for a WS title any day.

Good analysis. Wolf's deal was a necessary evil at the time. At least with his funky repertoire Wolf never became as predictable on the mound as a Suppan either.

The pen situation has just snow-balled from bad to worse and likely won't rebound until next year. It's amazing how long it's gone on. It seems like they could've tried McClendon more often. I hope they really do some serious try-outs in September because it's hard to tolerate the status quo.

I think eight figures per year is just too much for Marcum. He seems like a good guy but he's appeared down on his future in Mke for a while now and it's due to the snake eating its own tail. Mgmt is wary of the high cost and Marcum's injured too much to prove he's worth it. The Wolf deal is still an overpay IMO. If they were savvy enough they could've had similar production for way cheaper. You're right, though, it's a messy situation, complex.
2 years ago on Marcum Doubtful to Return to Brewers Next Year? | August
@n_prill I'd rather see a 2-year deal with a modest salary and incentives, but that's likely a pipedream. Marcum should feel he owes the team some consideration, though.

I think a qualifying offer would be too risky for a guy with mysterious injuries unless they could insure 90% of it against further DL trips.
haha yeah but if he's the same lovable guy he deserves the club's commitment and we should butter him up while he's poor and before he's a more desirable specimen.

Agreed. Ax should be given a contract extension. He's great despite his failures this season, and affordable too.
I sure hope so. They can't seemingly to a total tear-down with Weeks, Hart and others on the roster. Hopefully any build-up moves will be more successful than 2012's band-aids have been.

Cubs took their first cuts at Miller Park in May.
But yeah, good points on the meat of the order and defense.

I hear the Greinke story is true.

Do you think they decided to cut Gindl and Schafer just to avoid picking one of them for now? If Hart was really hurt and Aoki wasn't signed, I could see both making the roster, or a combo of one of them, plus Ishikawa. Speaking of, I know it's ST, but Ishikawa is my 'Casey Mcgehee' this year; I am pulling for him, somewhat irrationally.

@n_prill Yea hopefully they dont play due to injury or lack of performance by the regulars. I suppose if they didn't sign Aoki one of them would be a lock to start the year. Not bad to have two guys lnockin' on the door for outfield duty.

Thanks for the analysis. I'm intrigued to see what each could do in the majors. I hope they both get some big league time this year.
@andycoppens Yea it's good to see him come on with a serious attitude. I dont think his major league appearances thus far tell us anything really because they were too sporadic

I wld be happy with 15 homers and 75 rbi. Hopefully he'll maintain a decent average and not try to hit everything outta the park.
Doesnt it seem the team cldve picked up a few more options or would that be too many? I know they tried for Renteria.
