@Lost Ones Perfect comment. Speaks volumes about Westbrook.

Presti loves drafts picks. If Houston doesn't turn it around very quickly, these draft picks could be worth their weight in gold. With our cap situation and the new CBA, you need cheap talent. Only way to get that is through the draft.

Though I'd rather we just said screw the cap and go for the championship the next few years before trading away Harden.

Does it make me seem wishy-washy if I think neither of the extreme reactions are correct? Those who think the Lakers aren't a threat because of these trades are fooling themselves. LA's point guard play has been abysmal for years. Nash can't play defense, but neither could Sessions or Fisher. The upgrade he provides on offense is tremendous and unreal. No more 4th quarter collapses for them. Andrew Bynum is slow-footed and a very poor help defender. He gets killed on the pick-and-roll, just killed. Biggest defensive need for the Lakers is a fast big man who can help cover the defensive deficiencies of their point guard and shooting guard (Kobe has slowed down). He doesn't need plays called for him on offense, and Nash is going to keep him involved. They have become a significantly better team.

On the other hand:

Oklahoma City will have the best player on the court in Kevin Durant and if Westbrook steps his game up just a bit, we'll have the two best players on the court. OKC's A game will beat LA's A game. You can't just ignore OKC's youth. They can run all day, they won't get tired, they won't wear down in a 7 game series. LA *might* be more talented 1 through 5, but our big 3 is, on average, 8+ years younger than their big 3. This should make a difference in a playoff series. Finally, the Lakers still have Mike Brown as a head coach. I'm no Scott Brooks fan, but Brown is a truly terrible coach. The one thing he was supposed to be good at was defense, and the Lakers were a WORSE defensive team under Brown than Phil Jackson. If Phil was still coaching the Lakers, I'd be legitimately worried, but he's not. The Lakers have one of the worst 2 coaches in the league.

All that adds up to yes, the Lakers have improved with these trades. They are a legitimate threat to our Thunder. But I don't believe they are better. We still control our own destiny. If we take care of business, we'll be back in the finals again in 2013, and this time we're going to take the Heat down!

@dancassidy35/FreeLatWill!  @OBoymuzik  @persiansooner13 So would I, but as I said, that wasn't available to them because Houston wouldn't give all of those pieces for a 1 year rental of Dwight Howard.

2 years, 2 months ago on 3-on-3: Changes

Reply

@persiansooner13  @dancassidy35/FreeLatWill!  @OBoymuzik I don't think they COULD do any better than this because how much is any team going to give for a rental for Dwight Howard? He said he'd only re-sign with Brooklyn or LA. He told Houston he'd walk to Dallas in free agency if they traded for him. Brooklyn has absolute garbage on their team, they have nothing to offer Orlando or a 3rd party. The Lakers have Bynum.

Dwight spiked his trade value to everybody but the Lakers.

It's now on the front page of ESPN as a done deal. For the Lakers it is simply Bynum out, Dwight Howard in. They take on no bad contracts or anything. WTF? Iggy goes to Denver, Bynum and Richardson go to Philly, draft picks, Affalo, Moe something or another go to Orlando.

Rudolph was on the radio to discuss the CLE/LAL/ORL swap. Summary taken from a Cleveland message board:

No Interest in Houston for Howard at all (that option is dead for Howard Camp)

Howard moved the Lakers to his only choice once NJ was out!

Magic wont make trade with LA without a third team.

Orlando would get Andy several draft picks...

J richardson will have to be taken on

Frustration from all sides is that Orlando is not serious about pulling the trigger

Rockets are stuck on the sidelines until asik situation is resolved

Trade is on the table and the Magic have the option of actually making this happen!

Howard camp;; time for Orlando to show true intensions now.....

Magic need to make a decsision now!

Cleveland and Bynum ready to go... they are ready to pull the trigger

@supreme35 All that being said, I do think that Houston can beat this deal with better draft picks (the Toronto lottery pick), though they'll need to do a bit of swapping around to give Orlando the cap relief they're looking for, especially if Chicago doesn't match Asik.

2 years, 3 months ago on Oklahoma City’s Offseason Grade: On a curve

Reply

@supreme35  @basketballtalk They got almost no cap relief in the Brooklyn deal. They are going to be able to dump Hedo and Richardson and not have to eat that horrific Lopez contract (which had to be reason #1, #2, and #3 for why they didn't take the deal). This is a far, far better deal for what they're shooting for.

2 years, 3 months ago on Oklahoma City’s Offseason Grade: On a curve

Reply

@NewAnon123  @ElMexiThunder  @KS The proposed trade is Tristan Thompson, picks, and Verajao as I understand it to Orlando, Bynum and Hedo or Richardso to Cleveland, and Dwight and Hedo or Richardson to Cleveland. Some sort've cap equalizing would have to come from the Lakers too like McRoberts or a resigned Ebanks or something.

2 years, 3 months ago on Oklahoma City’s Offseason Grade: On a curve

Reply

@ElMexiThunder  @KS Not to be argumentative, but they wouldn't be biting on LA, they'd be biting on Cleveland. Orlando doesn't want Bynum.

@MostJadedGamer Agreed a billion percent. I'm incredibly happy he's gone.

2 years, 3 months ago on Oklahoma City’s Offseason Grade: On a curve

Reply

@ElMexiThunder He didn't say he was committed to the Lakers. But his reporter mouthpiece Rudolph has said that Dwight is willing to commit to a long term contract with them. So, I guess you're right. Doesn't matter until Cleveland, Lakers, and Orlando come to an agreement. Cleveland wants Bynum, Bynum wants Cleveland (guess he loves Byron Scott and Kyrie Irving and I speculate he'd like to escape Kobe Bryant and being the 4th option behind Kobe, Gasol, and Nash), but does Orlando want what Cleveland has? I'm pulling for Houston to come in and take Dwight. Houston wouldn't be a threat with Dwight.

@Lost Ones If we could get him to re-sign here, then absolutely we should go after him. Howard + Durant + Westbrook would be devastating.

@Lost Ones  @AlexKennedyNBA The Nash signing didn't concern me at all, but if they flip Bynum for Howard I'm going to start getting worried about the Lakers in the short term. Howard+Pau+Anybody+Kobe+Nash is a scary good lineup. Bynum and Pau clog the lanes and are simply too slow on defense, but Howard is simply the best defender in the league and that would be a massive upgrade.

@FREE_COLE Responding to my own post, the only thing I can think of is that Orlando is trying to get a more favorable trade partner to ante up. Maybe they want Andrew Bynum and want to force the Lakers to take a bad contract and it's a game of chicken with Mitch Kupchak. For OKC's sake, I hope that isn't what they're doing and they're going to trade Howard for the steaming pile of garbage they are being offered by the Nets. Lopez for a max contract? Holy crap.

@Eggs_Benedict  @bzzt  @Lost Ones  @Koka_Da_Bauce  @VAThunder Phil Jackson. You might not think that the triangle isn't a great fit for Westbrook, but Phil tailors his offense to his players. When he had Gary Payton, that team ran a crazy effective fast break. With a young Kobe Bryant, they also ran pretty effectively. If Brooks doesn't pull his head out of his ass and we lose this year, I'm pulling for a 3 year run of Phil Jackson and expecting us to hoist the trophy 3 years in a row until Phil retires again. Or, maybe he'll stick around since he'll be managing a team that actually listens as opposed to Kobe Bryant.
