I own and operate DraftKing.com, an NFL Draft website. I've worked in both TV and radio, mostly in a producing role.
I figured with the Blue Jackets switching conferences and playing the New York area teams more often that they would get more exposure on SportsCenter. But if the NHL overall is going to receive minimal coverage then the rub from playing extra games vs. the Rangers, Islanders, etc. is going to have a very limited impact.
It's too bad for them -- Blue Jackets home games are a fun experience even for me as a Predators fan.

Great poise by the play-by-play guy there -- but you have to be careful when you're positioned near the action. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHCSP7BL_AQ

I wish there was a version of the Mike Keith radio call of the Music City Miracle play that didn't have Pat Ryan trying to talk on top of him. There are some real gems in this mix, though.

Really more 1997 for the nWo peak, but this was a good article nonetheless. People who see the Heat as heels will tune in next season wanting to see the babyfaces (any other team) get revenge.

I've called basketball games on the radio from courtside close enough to where the coach could hear me... and from literally the rafters for others. Closer is definitely better, but especially when it comes to the quality of NBA broadcasts you would think that would trump a few extra courtside seats. I guess not...

I've found Billick to be an underrated color commentator, but his performance yesterday was underwhelming, to put it mildly, which was too bad. Moose is a good color man IMO, but being saddled with Tony Siragusa's nonsensical comments hasn't done him any favors.

It's interesting that Mike apparently presumes the caller to be somehow trying to plug Nick & Artie (which doesn't have a New York City terrestrial radio clearance) as opposed to referencing how Artie fell asleep many times late in his run with the Howard Stern show.

In defense of LeBetard, he was in a tough spot in how to respond. Attack ESPN and he'd be biting the hand that feeds. Attack Ryan's article and he'd look like a shill. Ignore you and he'd look like he's afraid.
His response was about as effective of a retort as I could imagine him being able to conjure up under the circumstances. The line of "I pompously deserve better" was pretty clever.

Good article, Ryan. You make some excellent points and I concur with your conclusions.
Great article, Matt, and I concur with your statements and conclusions. Bruce Feldman is a well-respected sports journalist, and you'd think that someone like him who started with ESPNET in July 1994 wouldn't be treated this way. He has provided ESPN with 18 years of outstanding sports journalism, providing their brand with online credibility in its infancy. He hasn't rested on his laurels, either; for evidence of that, simply look to his 12/29/2010 Insider piece which detailed how the Sugar Bowl CEO lobbied Ohio State to let Terrelle Pryor, Dan Herron, et al play against Arkansas.
My hope is that, whenever he is able, Feldman will jump to a competitor like Yahoo Sports or another comparable online sports news outlet that actually appreciates reporters who produce excellent work. My hope is that ESPN's short-sighted decision to indefinitely suspend @bfeldmanespn will lead to him receiving lucrative opportunities to ply his craft elsewhere.
