KG is now a Net, and neither Howard nor Smith will be picked up by the Spurs, as it violates the "No Knuckleheads Allowed" policy of the Spurs organization.

It's tempting to want these high performers, but the high $$, long contracts and prima donna attitude make it almost an impossibility to win with these guys.

I think the Spurs will take the same approach they have in the past.  They need a 3 and underperforming FA Wesley Johnson may be that backup to KL.  At the 4 position, an undervalued Carl Landry may be a huge help should DB leave the Spurs.

Lots of low $$, high return combinations out there.  Given the Spurs were only 1 board or 1 FT way from the title, no sense in going overboard.

@jh, liveND, 66:  Good posts.  I think we're all in agreement we need some big.   I know the Spurs are still working guys out, so at least they are trying.  We'll see what happens.

Tempting, but all teams in the nba have passed on this guy, including the Heat who need a big as well.

He was benched for being out of shape last year and has a lot of baggage as well (he's the lapdance Tuesday guy).

Lamar Odom looked like a great pickup for the Mavs last year.  My concern is Blatche could do the same to the Spurs.   Something is up with this guy.   He's more of a chance than he appears to be.

@inmortal I like the idea of Brand, but Mavs ac'd Heywood to get to Brand.  They will probably offer more than Spurs can afford, even if we were below the cap.

Heywood, Blatche and Scola will be ac'd, so we may have a shot at one of them.

Spurs need one more big.  Heywood, Brand, Blatche and Scola are available (or soon to be) via ac.

Hopefully,  Spurs will pick one of them up.

I agree.  Next year is his last year on his current contract, so it's news that he looks to play a year after that.

But I'm sure he can get a deal for one extra year.  I would have no problem with that.

Lorbek is an older, slower and less atthletic version of Ian Mahinmi.  He can shoot a 3, but  at 28, his time for a chance in the NBA is just about done.

Spurs are better served by setting theirs sights on one of the many bigs available in free agency this summer.  The need is for a big that can defend in the paint (which is not Lorbek's game).  Many players are out there, and there is a possibility that Brendon Haywood and/or Elton Brand could be waived/ac'd.   And there are other good defenders as well.

Also, on the point about Mills.  He has opted out and will probably sign with some team for about $2mil, which is what he is worth.  I don't believe the Spurs will pursue him at that price, unless something happens with CJ.

I wear on Oakland Raiders jersey to the games.  People always ask me if Biletnekoff played during the ABA days.  I say "sort of".

Hey Jeff. Good article, but just one point. The Jazz swept us in the 2009-2010 regular season.
