The Christmas Invasion. TEOT has too many problems for me.

Interesting idea for an article! Sadly I seem to be the only Whovian in my immediate family, so none of these seem like a good present for them.

I myself am not that into the DW merchandise, but I suspect I'll be getting the DWM subscription as a present.

All credibility of this news... lost. It might be frightful, but I don't think it will be "too scary for kids".

@SWTV Fair point. The Classic Series is riddled with "oh she's gone" exits.

Exhibit A: Dodo Chaplet and "The War Machines".

My suspicion, after reading this, is that most - if not all - of the episode is Clara's dream.

"some tissues again".

"again".

"The show doesn’t elaborate at all, but we are left to assume there’s an air bubble around them. Now, is such a thing possible? Yes, as it turns out. It’s called a plasma window, which was developed for a particular type of welding which needs to be done in a vacuum. The plasma is produced by some means, and magnetism is used to form and control the plasma, keeping it in the desired shape. The plasma particles move about so rapidly (because plasma is very hot, and heat is simply the kinetic energy on a very minute scale) that the air particles can’t get past them."

@SonicTheHedgehogRules @The Finn, Agent of SPECTRE @ilyootha, agent of C.L.A.R.A. I'm quite sure there was science article published on DWTV that explained how it could be possible....

Yeah, Mr, Moffat... this time I call bull****. The science in the episode doesn't add up.

Even if it did, it's not the only problem I have with the episode. There's also the tiny bit about how over-the-top it went with underlining its environmentalist lesson. I would have been very much fine with that aspect had it not been so underlined.

@ManWithChips That would necessitate Gallifrey being found in Series 9, so Clara could enroll in the Prydonian Academy. The Doctor can't really teach Clara, as remember that his Prydonian priviledges were revoked when he stole the TARDIS.

@Who is the Doctor If it ends up being Series 9, Episode 1, then the stakes are on it being a Moffat episode. However, as the don't usually film episodes in broadcast order, it might not be.

After googling the phrase, I found out that "The Magician's Apprentice" is the title of a fantasy novel by Australian writer Trudi Canavan, who wrote the Doctor Who "Time Trips" short story "Salt of the Earth.

A hint. perhaps? Or a coincidence?

@supermoff  @The Finn, Agent of SPECTRE Indeed. All the RTD era Christmas Specials could be summed up with one line: "a catastrophe happens.... and it's Christmas".

The Christmas Invasion. It was the first Christmas special and arguably the best Christmas special of the RTD era IMHO. It's got a good story, although the Christmas element plays second fiddle. After this the RTD Christmas Specials started to be repeats of the same elements, IMHO, and I much more like the Moffat era specials in which Christmas is more prominent.
