@MikeLecolant haha I do like Murph a lot, and his ups and downs can definitely be shown as the Mets story this season. I hope he keeps proving me right at least!
Another great story...unbelievable that Seaver won 16 games out of the Mets 61 overall wins.
@Will DeBoer I've been leaning more towards Balfour because of Street's inability to stay healthy. K-Rod is a big personality and I don't think he would enjoy being traded unless he was closing games.
@SuperfanXavier Thanks for reading and good points made all around. From the other comparisons I made, I agree with your agrument of Sandoval over Wright two years ago, the most deserving should get the start. Unfortunately, MLB has lost sight of the true meaning for the All-Star game because of the revenue. I agree with you, non-players and coaches shouldn't vote for the starters, and if it were up to me, I would have that done. I do have a little bias for Wright on the East Coast, but he is clearly having a better year; this jump in votes at the end show that Giants fans may be a little more dedicated than others, especially in the immediate area of San Francisco compared to NYC.
Couldn't have said it better myself... being able to shake up the divisional standings after a good series for the Mets is all we could ask for...much more than anyone was expecting too.
@MikeLecolant Agreed, it's lost is appeal to many purists. I wish it didn't determine home field advantage in the WS either...one of the many things Bud Selig has done that has made me scratch my head.
Awesome...what a freakin beard! They gotta bring stuff like that back.
Great piece, and I wholeheartedly agree. Hopefully they don't drop the ball, literally.
Seriously! That was tough to watch. Hard to jump out to early leads two nights in a row and expect our bullpen to hang on both times, although they didn't pitch badly last night. Hopefully there won't be much need for them with R.A. on the bump tonight!
Great piece. I agree with you; it seems like everyone is calling for Murph's head and I don't get it. He'll come out of it because he's a good hitter. Is he the future answer at 2nd base? Probably not, but he will continue to be the answer this year.
@MikeLecolant Another good point that I didn't think about... could play a role as well.
@MikeyJoe Thanks for your comment and I appreciate you reading! I'm glad that you enjoyed article and I agree with you. When Murph is hitting well, everyone is all over him, but when he struggles lots are looking for an alternative. I do think TC will be patient and be sure to put him in positions to succeed and get him back on track, just like he did for Ike.
It is odd that Ike gets more of a pass with fans and mgmt; I guess that's what home run power can do. Valdespin has done a great job to pick up the slack while Murph is struggling, but I'm sure once he adjusts to how he's being pitched, he'll be in there everyday again. Thankfully, Ike has picked it up so we don't have to watch both of them struggle at the same time!
@MikeLecolant well that certainly sounds like fun. I'm going to have to put it on my things to do list. What can I say, you sell it well.
I agree with you; if this were previous years, I would also write this team off, but I'm not doing that just yet. These guys are different and I want to see how they react to these tough times.
Bringing baseball back to Brooklyn has been a wonderful thing. I have yet to catch a game there, but it is definitely on my list of things to do!
It sure is...unfotunately, he had to get hurt for playing time situation to get a little easier.
This series has been very frustrating because we really wanted to see these two take the lead and continue to put this team on a roll. Thankfully, we have Johan and R.A. to act as stoppers again. If the Mets want to continue to compete into the summer though, at least one of these two need to step up.
@MikeLecolant Absolutely!! I agree 100%, pitching has become a little more complicated than it needs to be.
This picture made me laugh out loud.
@MikeLecolant Yea, contention can make teams make some crazy moves, but I don't think Alderson will do anything crazy because of the asking prices. He will definitely be asking about certain players, but once the asking price is set too high, he will back out. Hopefully Beato and Mejia will give the 'pen enough of a shakeup to help them perform more consistently.
