@MrJimiTheFish @TARDlSkey I guess, yeah. But the way I see it, it was popular before. It had the right level of popularity it needed to continue to exist, I just feel its popularity has reached the caves of those looking for something new to make themselves pass as nerdy/geeky in a trend sort of way.

In a way, irrelevant to my rant, I am happy it's like this because it's like seeing something you cherish dearly become cherished by more people. But I just don't like the way some people exploit it for recognition :P

Does anyone get the feeling that in recent years, Doctor Who has become... 'mainstream' in an annoying, negative way?

I mean it in the sense that, only since Moffat took over has it become more recognisable to larger audiences. I don't mean how it's become bigger worldwide through promotion or anything, but it just feels like it's began trends (i.e. fish custard, "bow-ties are cool", "Fezzes are cool" blah, blah) and become mainstream based on these trends and such.

It's hard to explain it in the way I'm trying to, but whenever I see someone say something like, "Omg, fezzes and bow-ties are so cool" and when I see pictures of people (taken in their spare time and not for anything Who-related) wearing a fez, goofy glasses and holding a sonic screwdriver toy in their hand, I just think shut uuuup and go back into hiding. It just feels it's only now become popular almost, and people think wearing a bow-tie or fez makes you a die-hard Whovian.

Some guy from my course's first year came into college last week wearing a blue shirt, tweed jacket and bright red bow-tie. The jacket was at least two sizes too big and the bow-tie was just the gone off icing on the already badly made cake. I'm a Whovian, I love the show - it's my life. I've quoted and will quote the show many times, I'll even wear something Who-appropriate, but I don't do it in order to make a point that I'm a Whovian. I do it because I am a Whovian and it's natural.

I'm not applying this to everyone who wears a fez or bow-tie or whatever. Just those who do it because they think it's the only way to make it clear they watch Doctor Who.

Rant over.

Oh, this is a tough on for me. I'm torn between Mathieson, Curtis and Nye. Based on enjoyment, I'd go with Mathieson, for the best concept it would be Nye and for character, it'd be Curtis. I think I'll go for Curtis. The realism and depth he brought just appeals more to me, I think.

Curtis... yeah, yeah. Curtis.

Then again, I never really invested into her character in any real way. I liked her during series 1, but from TCI I just kind of tolerated her. For lack of a better word.

So The Flash aired last night and I was pleasantly taken in by it.

Out of the shows recently, like The Walking Dead, Under The Dome, Gotham and Arrow coming back soon, The Flash is the show I've been less interested by. But after last night's episode, I'm actually thinking I prefer it to Gotham - which is painful to say given my love for Batman.

To me, despite Gotham being off to a pretty good start (IMO), I just found The Flash a lot more structured and well balanced. I've often found some dialogue/acting in Gotham *cough*FishMooney*cough* to be somewhat cheesy and at times off-putting but The Flash avoids this.

Can't wait to see how the remainder of the series plays out!

"Steven Moffat has said Peter Capaldi’s past appearances in the Whoniverse will still be addressed in Series 8 but fans shouldn’t expect a major story point out of it."

From the article that says it will be addressed in a low key way. As I said. Don't count on it.

@yoshfiction You don't have to force yourself to watch it. Just don't bother unless an episode seems to appeal to you in some way. If that still doesn't satisfy you, it was still worth a try.

Just because it's Doctor Who, that doesn't mean you have an obligation to watch or enjoy it :P Just come back to it when you feel you connect with it again.

Freddie Highmore really captures Norman Bates perfectly. He embodies the awkward, charming yet mysterious character that Anthony Perkins created, while bringing new life to him. Not to mention the fair resemblance the two have.

I can't imagine anyone else in the role. Highmore's Bates has become one of my favourite characters on TV at the moment.

I do really like Capaldi as the Doctor, and I think he's given a great performance so far. My only little problem - well, more of a niggle - is sometimes his deliverance of a line or his posture during a tense scene feels quite dramatically forced... if that makes sense? In Flatline for example, when Clara asked if the 2D-IS would work the second time, he turned to the camera and said "Absolutely!" I cringe slightly at that because I just find it 'typical' or cliche'd. I don't know. He's done it a few times. Not enough for it to really bother me or hinder my enjoyment of his performance. But sometimes it just feels a little cringeworthy.
