I don't think I've ever read a post by Royce that had a curse word in it. Probably speaks to the level of frustration that even Royce is feeling about this series and how this team is playing. Everyone that's a fan of this team is thinking why the hell aren't they winning this series. I could handle losing to say the Clippers or Spurs. Hell even the Blazers but to the damn Grizzlies. They're a great defensive team but it still doesn't seem right to lose to a team that struggles to score like they do. I mean it was one thing when KD struggled with TA what 3-4 years ago. The reasons given were well he'll get stronger or his game will evolve enough to deal with the holding and grabbing Allen does. Fast forward to now and the struggles are still there. We've seen him grow to become the best scorer in the game and second best player period and yet he's been reduced to a decoy in what was practically a must have game. I wouldn't want Durant to become an a-hole on the court but he needs to get that edge back. I'd rather see them go down next game with KD at least trying to will this team to a win then him conceding the ball to his teammates because it's just not happening for him.

@[censored] I hated the move to the hacking but what else was Brooks going to do? We saw him plead with the team during a timeout in a mic'd clip to guard the three point line and that houston was getting too many open 3's. Even in his after game interview he said that the biggest issue on defense was not matching up in transition and giving up too many looks on 3's. Guys aren't playing close enough on Garcia, Harden, and Parsons when they have the ball or they're diving down to help on Brooks or Beverly and leaving the shooters wide open. That's killing them right now. The team did this in the first 3 games and got away with it because the offense wasn't sputtering as bad as it is now and Houston is actually hitting those shots. He could've gone to a zone look but I doubt it would've made much difference. The team didn't look focused last night and might've thought they were just going to come home and roll.

@BallSoHard I'm no Brooks fan but Nick has been really bad this series. He isn't rebounding, is too small to guard Asik when he's on the floor, and isn't really finishing at the rim when he gets the ball. As much as I would like to see Perk sit, Nick playing more minutes probably isn't the instant cure that people might think it would be.

Yo Scott Brooks, point one of those middle fingers at me. I doubted you since the start of the season and got Royce so mad he was this close to blocking me on twitter. Credit and props to Royce to being better than that and big time kudos for making me look the fool by coming up big time when it counted. You've earned an extension and big apologies from your doubters including me.

Just when you thought Russ was giving his critics nothing to harp on, this game happens. He should not have been handling the ball after the first couple of turnovers. This should have been a repeat of game 4 from the mavs series with James the primary ball handler. Or have kd bring the ball up. He almost single handedly blew the game. It's like you have to protect Russ from himself sometimes and the last six minutes was one of those times. Thankfully we won but there is still a meltdown habit that hasn't gone away completely yet.

This commericial is awesome. Can't stop watching KD posterize Bynum. Just great. Still get pleasantly surprised when I see the Spurs BIG commercial though because of Mobb Deep playing in the background.

Harden should've had the ball in his hands more in the last six minutes. Russ played out of control and made some really bad decisions. On the bright side it only took 7 quarters of basketball for brooks to realize perk has no business on the floor. Totally agree with Royce that the game was lost when that craptastic lineup of harden, cook, nazr, fisher, and nick was out there way too long.

2 years, 4 months ago on Thunder at Spurs: Game 2 Pregame Primer

@tydude So that basically means Perk is going to get minutes no matter what if Duncan is on the floor. The offense becoming stagnant in the fourth was the biggest problem but Perkins was atrocious last night. I thought this was the series where he would be used less.

It was funny/sad to see Perk get smoked badly the few times he tried to front Duncan like he was Bynum. The Spurs weren't bothered by it and just lobbed it over Perkins. Can't believe the lakers were too dumb and impatient to not do the same thing.

Usually you don't get much from those inside trax segments but Pop's at the end of the third was insightful towards the end of this game. He tells his team to start driving hard to the rim (they scored most of their points In the fourth in the paint or at the line) and to play nasty (which was code Jackson to start grabbing and holding kd). Was hard to watch the defense get beat by easy baskets after playing so good for three quarters and watching durant struggle against Jackson like he was MWP/tony Allen. 14 seconds wasted off each possession just trying to get kd the ball at his spots. Then it doesn't happen and Russ has to take some bad shot. If we wanted him to have the ball so badly on each possession why not have bring the ball up court a few times?

This what happens when close games involving pop and brooks happen. Adjustments get made on one end and aren't made on the other. They're the worst pnr defending team in the league yet it's been nothing but waiting to iso kd most of the fourth quarter. What a joke.

If super small ball didn't involve Fisher being on the court as much as he was then I'd be for doing it. Then again maybe that's why we got killed on the boards in the first place. Can kd please have a good shooting night so I don't have to hear somebody say well he won't keep shooting that bad. Seems like that has been said too often the last couple of weeks in big games.

@justin_mia @TaoMaas It's funny that you say that Serge sucks at screening when Pruiti says he'd rather have him set screens for Durant/Westbrook than Perk. I'm sure it has to do with Ibaka being more of an offensive threat on a pnr rather than how they each set the screen.

Why do people keep saying well the shots just weren't going in? The problem was the kind of looks/shots they took in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Too many times KD or Russ had to jack up a bad shot because either a play was developing too slow or not at all. This game was definitely a flashback to the playoff series against Dallas last year. I know the guys got frustrated by the non calls when they did drive to the basket but only James continued to take it to the rim. What makes things worse is being in L.A. and having to hear how the Clippers played lock down defense. They're a bad defensive team and the Thunder makes it look like Thibodeau coaches them. Ugh....

How do you not trap Chris Paul on the clippers last possession? You want the ball out of his hands and he's their only clutch player. You saw Blake pass to Kenyon Martin like he was afraid to take a shot that late on the game. And if you can't put you all star point guard on the opposing all star guard then you should stop saying he's a good defender. Russ is average at best on d and I think that's being kind.

@justin_mia Yeah I guess if you believe that veteran leadership some how puts points on the scoreboard. Seriously brooks doesn't get enough flak for stupid decisions like this. Yeah we get it serge doesn't always play smart on the defensive end. He's still a way better option than nazr and freaking fisher.

2 years, 5 months ago on Thunder at Pacers: Pregame Primer

The prophecy that adding fisher would be bad because brooks would play him way too much has come true. It would make no sense to keep harden and ibaka if brooks is also kept around.

So brooks sticks with small ball too long against Miami when we had the size advantage and tonight didn't go small fast enough when Indiana was too big? Presti get on the phone with Orlando and see if we can do a coach swap. Howard gets a coach that will stay positive no matter what and okc gets a coach that can say more than rebound with your hearts.

@justin_mia It also seemed like a bad shot because he treated it like it was a catch and shoot scenario. He had beat Lebron to get the ball off the inbounds and he could've driven to the basket or pumped faked knowing lebron was behind him. That shot was just rushed.

So brooks got a taste of his own medicine when the cavs went small ball huh? What happened to taking serge out when the matchups aren't in his favor? Cavs basically have no center yet Perkins is left out there to guard guys faster and more athletic than him. Sad that a fantasy sports site like rotoworld even thinks brooks is pretty clueless when it comes to when to use serge/perk and when not to.
