@KevinTheNYRBlog @RangersinTokyo Guys like Stralman are actually very hard to replace.

He was their best defenseman in the playoffs after McD.  We'll all understand what we are missing when he's wearing a Flyers uniform.  Huge loss.

For people who fought in WWII especially, respecting the national anthem is a big, big deal.  To them it synonymous with respect for the people who died fighting.  I think its hard for many of us to really appreciate how important it is to that generation. He could have done a better (i.e. less inflammatory) job of making his point, but his point (which I believe is to say: Some traditions are worth respecting) doesn't deserve the level of indignation heaped on it by this post, imo.

Hagelin got three for much less dangerous elbow two year ago. Terrible decision. League clearly doesn't give a shit about their players. Meanwhile, the league wanted Montreal to win last night. Sweep would have been bad dor business. They had the refs on their side all night.

@TruBluEsp That's for sure.  I was there.  You could hear a pin drop, even early in the 3rd when the Rangers still had time to win the game.  And the loudest noise I heard in the 3rd period (other than the horrible blaring over the loudspeakers) was the yelling from the Penguins bench when they thought there should have been a penalty call.

@ObviouslyTwoPointsAreGreat  That's basically what Tortorella and Sullivan preached. They never practiced the PP as a result.  It's a nice theory, but it doesn't work for some reason.

imo, the problem with the power play is not the personnel.  Someone needs to move around WITH the puck in the zone.  It does no good if the person with the puck isn't moving.  It creates lanes; it breaks down defenses. It forces other players on the offense team to move too, creating more chaos.  People moving without the puck is good, but it's the puck carrier that needs to create the initial good pass. At no time is this more evident than on 4-3 or 5-3.  Does no good just to stand around and pass the puck back and forth.

The Good:

Nash-Step-St.L line on fire

Lundqvist showing signs of being dominant

Staal currently rangers best defenseman

Rangers winning despite not even being close to top form

The Bad:

McDonaugh is a shadow of his pre-shoulder injury self.

Girardi got away with some horrible gaffs.

Zucc-Pouliot-Brass line has been more invisible with each game.

Klein is shaky.  Time for Diaz.

The Ugly:

Hagelin had the puck on his stick at least 6 times during PKs and failed to clear the zone. 4/20 was 2 days ago Hags!

Given that guys basically play with broken arms in this league, the fact that he's out at all is a serious concern.  He's hurt, plain and simple.  And he'll likely be playing through pain throughout the playoffs, which means less effective. We won't really know what's wrong with him until after the season, if at all, in typical hockey fashion.  Huge blow for the Rangers.

Couldn't agree with you more on your assessment of these types of hits and the damage it does to the game.

With respect to the injury, however, something is fishy if he is out "indefinitely".  The rangers said the same thing about "no structural damage" to Marc Staal's eye last year too and we all know how that turned out.

This blog needs to start a social media campaign to get Burrows suspended. First Simmons and now Burrows? Right at the end of the game?  No "hockey play" there.  #Shanahan #NHL

It's worth pointing out that this team's reversal of fortune (from its early season fiasco) started at the exact same time as Kreider turned his game around.  It may have been a little bit of a coincidence, but Kreider definitely played a role. I like Miller, but he has (and I can't believe I am saying this) decent-sized shoes to fill.

St. Louis is a superstar whose skill is only part of the equation.  His other HUGE attribute is his anticipation.  For some reason, he's just a little off, a little tentative.  He has put a lot of pressure on himself by demanding a trade and coming to a new team.  He's tight, but when he figures it out, he could take this team to another level.

You know, you make a really good point.  I know for a fact that airlines and other companies watch social media closely for any sign of trouble (e.g. people complaining about a plane on the runway) so that they can nip it in the bud.  I bet if "we" - meaning the blog - launched a social media campaign to politely request that the league address the play we might be able to do more than we think.  We need common hashtags, and we would probably need about 20k people to get on the bandwagon, easily doable given the outrageous nature of the play and the devotion of Rangers fans!

Let's be honest.  Hank has not played his best this year.  Maybe the contract negotiations are in his head, who knows?  But he's a pro, and he needs to suck it up and be better. He's still getting paid effing millions for pete's sake.  Hopefully, this move lights a fire under his ass.  Ride Talbot while he's hot, and let Hank come back pissed off.  Great move by AV.

I'd really like to see Hagelin get his game going again.  He was so instrumental in turning this team around and he can be a big difference maker when he's playing with confidence. Hard to understand why he doesn't have the puck as much recently, or maybe it's just one of those puck-luck kind of things.

The guy hires cronies.  Period.  Sure Sather has experience, but what it takes to rise to the top and stay there is to be pals with Dolan.  As long as you're willing to kiss his ass, you've got a job for life.  No accountability.

And Sather's huge shortcoming is his record in the draft.  Enough already.

Sorry to disagree, but Rangers can ask for and deserve a better owner.  He's a complete buffoon.

What I find most encouraging about Nash's play so far is that he looks completely uninhibited.  Not afraid at all of cutting though the middle.  Scares me, but evidently not him.

@Kevin DeLury Sorry.  It's grim.  Dolan will own them for the rest of our lives most likely and he's incompetent.  Knicks and Rangers are cursed because of it.

@Kevin DeLury @MiddleSwine @iwantgaborik you both have points, imo.  Hank was great last night, and made the difference between winning and losing.  Against, Boston, however, he played badly despite the fact that the Rangers only scored one goal.  He rightfully deserved some criticism for that game.    Taking his season as a whole so far, he's been average and needs to be better.  When starts playing at the level he is capable of the Rangers will catch fire.  Scoring is always hard in the NHL.

I don't think it's that fans don't believe in Lundqvist, it's more just whether you feel like he's been playing well.  I, for one, don't think he's been playing that well and how many goals he's allowed is not good measuring stick.  It's how many quality chances he's faced in the last 3 games vs. how many quality saves he's made.  He needs to be better. I think he'd even admit that.  Once he gets going, the Rangers will start sizzling.

MDZ has been trying to force it for years.  The more he feels like he has something to prove, the more he tries to be Bobby Orr.  Benching him compounds the problem it seems.  At a certain point, it's fair to say he has low hockey IQ and to move on.

9 months, 2 weeks ago on Not Another Del Zotto Trade Rumor

Reply

@CJ @Kevin DeLury Avery was so despised around the league that NO ONE wanted him despite the fact that he was a good player who could skate, score and agitate, so not sure where you are getting the likable to his teammates things.  The team in Dallas basically ran him out of town.  I don't know anything about Chris Neil as a person, but as a hockey player, he brings a lot to the table and adds an element the Rangers have lacked.  Also know nothing about his contact, health or age, so minor details.

Kevin:

Couple of counterpoints.  Lundqvist really needs to come out of the net and challenge more on that Thorton goal.  This "play deep in the net thing" is fine, to a point.  Contrast that to the way Rask challenged guys all night.  I thought that goal was on him in part (defense to blame too, but . . .).   Second, the Paille breakaway goal wasn't great either.  That's a save that has to be made. Ok - so it snuck through, but 95 out of 100 times an NHL goalie will make that save.  Put the two together, and Lundqvist had a bad game.
