how about a defensman?
And btw, Miller looked good in the preseason at first. He was a "lock" according to everyone as the teams 3rd line center until the last two games of the preseason when he laid an egg in the face-off circle and was generally a non-factor.

The way I see it, the Rangers have 2 first lines and should have 2 third lines. Brassard's line and Step's lines are clearly your 2 first lines. The 2 third lines should be, IMO
Hagelin Moore Stepniak
Duclair Hayes Miller/ Fast
Depending on how the team is going on any given night, the 2 third lines would either split time evenly or one would play more than the other.

Here's a Halloween stat for you. Del Zotto led the Flyers in ice time last night and was a +1!

@gravey94 I still think Miller is an NHL player. Maybe another GM does too and Sather can package him and Klein for a half way decent defenseman. Doubt it, but it's a nice fantasy.

@scrangersfan @rangersfan I love Zucc, but who are you going to trade for a legit defenseman while still clearing cap space. Hagelin too was one of their best players in the playoffs last year. That's why they both have trade value. Who would you suggest? Kreider? - Sorry Kreider is more valuable than Zucc or Hagelin and not sure how much salary hit he has anyway. STL and Nash have no trades. You could move Stepan, I guess, and keep STL in the middle. Or Brassard. Can't see the Rangers doing that. Just trying to make the best out of a bad situation. Too late to sign Stralman instead of Girardi.
The rangers need to trade for a legit top 4 defenseman and clear cap space at the same time. They have a bounty at forward all of sudden, but all the guys with big contracts at forward have no trade clauses with the exception of Brassard (maybe?). So that leaves lesser contracts that can be traded to clear space, specifically Zucc, Stepan and Hagelin. Seems unlikely that Stepan is going anywhere given the problems with depth at center. So that leaves Hagelin or Zucc. One of those guys needs to go to create space in exchange for someone legit on the back end. The emergence of duclair makes that palatable imho. (as much as I love both those guys).
@Josh-CK I hear you, but I don't really think of one line being a first line and another being a third. The top 3 lines are interchangeable and who plays more on a given night would depend on which line was going that night. That's one of the things I really like about this team and that I liked about the team last year. 3 offensive lines and a fourth line.

Duclair St. Louis Nash
Hagelin Brassard Zucc
Kreider Miller Stempniak / Hayes / Fast
Glass Moore Stepniak / Malone
I'd like to see what Kreider / Miller and Hayes or Fast could do together.
I don't love the idea of Duclair and Miller playing together, given their lack of collective experience. If they struggle out of the gates, it could hurt their confidence unnecessarily. Of course, if they click it will be sweet.
@scrangersfan The mistake, imo, was signing Girardi to 6yrs and $36M rather than Stralman to $5.5M for 5 years.

@KevinTheNYRBlog @RangersinTokyo Guys like Stralman are actually very hard to replace.

He was their best defenseman in the playoffs after McD. We'll all understand what we are missing when he's wearing a Flyers uniform. Huge loss.
For people who fought in WWII especially, respecting the national anthem is a big, big deal. To them it synonymous with respect for the people who died fighting. I think its hard for many of us to really appreciate how important it is to that generation. He could have done a better (i.e. less inflammatory) job of making his point, but his point (which I believe is to say: Some traditions are worth respecting) doesn't deserve the level of indignation heaped on it by this post, imo.

Hagelin got three for much less dangerous elbow two year ago. Terrible decision. League clearly doesn't give a shit about their players. Meanwhile, the league wanted Montreal to win last night. Sweep would have been bad dor business. They had the refs on their side all night.
@TomDundie @rangersfan Are you Glen Sather?

There is some good news though. We have a ton of good picks this year and next from which to rebuild our team!!! . . . oh, wait . . .
@TruBluEsp That's for sure. I was there. You could hear a pin drop, even early in the 3rd when the Rangers still had time to win the game. And the loudest noise I heard in the 3rd period (other than the horrible blaring over the loudspeakers) was the yelling from the Penguins bench when they thought there should have been a penalty call.
@ObviouslyTwoPointsAreGreat That's basically what Tortorella and Sullivan preached. They never practiced the PP as a result. It's a nice theory, but it doesn't work for some reason.
@scrangersfan @JoeyKocur @rangersfan agreed.
imo, the problem with the power play is not the personnel. Someone needs to move around WITH the puck in the zone. It does no good if the person with the puck isn't moving. It creates lanes; it breaks down defenses. It forces other players on the offense team to move too, creating more chaos. People moving without the puck is good, but it's the puck carrier that needs to create the initial good pass. At no time is this more evident than on 4-3 or 5-3. Does no good just to stand around and pass the puck back and forth.
Nash-Step-St.L line on fire
Lundqvist showing signs of being dominant
Staal currently rangers best defenseman
Rangers winning despite not even being close to top form
McDonaugh is a shadow of his pre-shoulder injury self.
Girardi got away with some horrible gaffs.
Zucc-Pouliot-Brass line has been more invisible with each game.
Klein is shaky. Time for Diaz.
Hagelin had the puck on his stick at least 6 times during PKs and failed to clear the zone. 4/20 was 2 days ago Hags!

Given that guys basically play with broken arms in this league, the fact that he's out at all is a serious concern. He's hurt, plain and simple. And he'll likely be playing through pain throughout the playoffs, which means less effective. We won't really know what's wrong with him until after the season, if at all, in typical hockey fashion. Huge blow for the Rangers.

Couldn't agree with you more on your assessment of these types of hits and the damage it does to the game.
With respect to the injury, however, something is fishy if he is out "indefinitely". The rangers said the same thing about "no structural damage" to Marc Staal's eye last year too and we all know how that turned out.
This blog needs to start a social media campaign to get Burrows suspended. First Simmons and now Burrows? Right at the end of the game? No "hockey play" there. #Shanahan #NHL
It's worth pointing out that this team's reversal of fortune (from its early season fiasco) started at the exact same time as Kreider turned his game around. It may have been a little bit of a coincidence, but Kreider definitely played a role. I like Miller, but he has (and I can't believe I am saying this) decent-sized shoes to fill.

I respectively disagree. You may not get a response, but you will make them think about it, which is something.

St. Louis is a superstar whose skill is only part of the equation. His other HUGE attribute is his anticipation. For some reason, he's just a little off, a little tentative. He has put a lot of pressure on himself by demanding a trade and coming to a new team. He's tight, but when he figures it out, he could take this team to another level.

You know, you make a really good point. I know for a fact that airlines and other companies watch social media closely for any sign of trouble (e.g. people complaining about a plane on the runway) so that they can nip it in the bud. I bet if "we" - meaning the blog - launched a social media campaign to politely request that the league address the play we might be able to do more than we think. We need common hashtags, and we would probably need about 20k people to get on the bandwagon, easily doable given the outrageous nature of the play and the devotion of Rangers fans!
I can't understand why the league doesn't suspend people for that.
Miller is a pretty physical player too. He can be nasty. I'd like to see him play tonight.

ok - you're right. After that replay I agree. bad call
@Hotfreak That was the linesman

1 year, 1 month ago on Lundqvist to Be Extended for 7 Years, $8+ Million Per
I agree with you Kevin. This is too much, for too long.
Let's be honest. Hank has not played his best this year. Maybe the contract negotiations are in his head, who knows? But he's a pro, and he needs to suck it up and be better. He's still getting paid effing millions for pete's sake. Hopefully, this move lights a fire under his ass. Ride Talbot while he's hot, and let Hank come back pissed off. Great move by AV.

after their start, 13-12 is looking pretty good right now. This team has played well over the last 15. If Lundqvist regains his form this team could really go on a roll.

I'd really like to see Hagelin get his game going again. He was so instrumental in turning this team around and he can be a big difference maker when he's playing with confidence. Hard to understand why he doesn't have the puck as much recently, or maybe it's just one of those puck-luck kind of things.
I wonder if Zucc makes the Norwegian Olympic hockey team.
