@Bruffins @drummond yeah, that´s make sense

Robidas will play with Rielly, that´s the reason they brought him in, to mentor the kid. Phaneuf will play with Gards and Franson will play with Polak. With those pairings you can distribute ice time pretty evenly. I like the 2nd and 3rd pairing very much as each has offensive minded guy and defensive minded guy. In Dion-Gards pairing I would actually make Dion defense first guy and let Jake be the creative one.

PP1 - Gards, Rielly

PP2 - Phaneuf, Franson

SH1 - Phaneuf, Polak

SH2 - Rielly, Robidas

Forget PK Subban, try to get Oliver Ekmann-Larsson from the desert to join his Swedish fellas. Cheaper, classier, and in many ways better option than PK if you want to get true No. 1 D into TO

@CanuckUKinToronto Do not get me wrong, I love all those kids in the A´s but Nylander, Leivo, Carrick are not NHL ready. Gauthier absolutely not. Let them rock in the A´s, one more year will not hurt them at all.

Well, the plan I see behind all this isthat most of these newly signed guys are placeholders for kids such as Nylander, Leivo, Carrick who need one more year in the A´s

I believe Gards will thrive under Spott and Horachek and therefore I am inclined to 4 to 5 years deal. I also believe in such a case it would be for reasonable amout, which in worst case (meaning way too many mistakes) makes Gards very tradable as he will always be an intriguing offensive minded defenceman for many teams struggling on PP or generaly offensively challanged.

@leafdreamer Well, April Reimer tweets all over the world, while anything on Bozie-Kessel relationship is a pure speculation. I see a clear difference.

I guess one of the one year cheap singnings will be a real bust and one of them will be a huge steal. The remaining will be "just OK".

3 weeks, 3 days ago on James Reimer Signs for 2 years, $2.3 million per season

Not sure what went wrong in the Leafs dressing room but the fact is that the Leafs played horribly in those games Reimer played in the end of the season. Sure he let in several softies, no doubt about that, but so did Berny. The Leafs played simply better for Berny than for Reims. Another quite an unfortunate thing was that Reims played very often the second of the back to back games in which the Leafs were traditionally incredibly flat and left him out there all alone.

People at PPP are wetting their pents as we speak. Although I am not that much of stats geek, I am glad that Shanny is trying every single avenue, the Leafs are extremly rich organization, let´s build that analytical dept., you never know what may come up from there. Use every advantage you may get. This is simply smart management. I am loving it.

Let the season start, there will be injuries and some unexpected teams may be willing to trade for him.... and you never know, the Leafs may lose 2 D-men as well and we will be happy for having Cody.

4 weeks ago on The pros and cons of trading Cody Franson

Reply

I am just glad this is over, the amount is pretty reasonable, Franson at least in his statements seems quite OK with the process and ready to go. He will be ready for the camp, no distraction etc... The Leafs have plenty of time to either resign him (provided he is really good and for example Horachek makes him work) or to trade him. Cody has a real motivation to play well (becoming an UFA), some desperate team may give us some nice piece for him.

Russian tennis star Kirilenko just dumped Alex Ovechkin. They got engaged last year. Would be interesting to see what it does with Alex. He may be a beast out there or it very well may destroy him.

@Jordan29 @drummond well, late in the season it was obvious that gards and rielly are both more creative on PP, not having that stubburn SOB on the bench they would have already played more

As far as expansion is concerned, the only location/team I find viable in Canada is another team in GTA. I would love to see Nordiques back, but the city is lacking big money corporate sponsors.

South of the border I believe Seattle could do well, not so sure about Kansas City. Milwaukee or Cleveland could work.

I believe if you take cookies and hotdogs from Phil, he will get definately worse. You can´t take his joys of life, he would feel miserable, unhappy and would hardly play with that flair of his.

Re: Gunnar - Polak debate. The Leafs badly need to get nastier, tough to play against... and even though we may consider Gunnar a better player his health issues prevented him from playing that kind of game, if he ever was regarded as such type of player. He was positionally very sound but let´s face it, opposing fowards pushed him away easily. I do not expect Polak to score goals, for that the Leafs employ Gards, Rielly and in lesser extent Dion and maybe also Franson. But we need someone who clears the net, who is a mean SOB and that´s not Gunnar. from that perspevtive, it was a good move. The price the Leafs paid is a different thing.
