Agents don't "unnoficially" talk to other teams about clients. Its called tampering and its against the rules.
7 months, 2 weeks ago on Cally Doesn't Want to Talk Contract; AV Expects Him in Lineup Tuesday
@Bring back LangdonExcuse me are you sayng Prust will get 6 mil on the open market?? Are you talking about Brandon Prust...on Montreal...who used t play for the rangers?
8 months ago on Rangers Talking Contract With Girardi; Not So Much With Callahan & Stralman
@Bring back Langdon lol oh Im sorry he only scored 29 goals in 76 games. In the words of Jim Carey " I was WAY OFF" lol.The year after he had 16 goals in 45 games. The year before he had 23 goals in 60 games. I never said he scored 30, I said he has been on par for 30 every year. Your comparing Callahan to Dom Moore or Bran Boyle? Sorry but no comparison. how is the 28 year old captain of the NY rangers who has been among the team leaders in all stats every single year past his prime exactly? He has only missed like35 games in 3 seasons even with injuries! You wanna pay Prust 4 mil over Cally 5.5 !!?? Sorry but you just lost all credibility.
@Bring back LangdonI disagree, he is also a top penalty killer, shot blocker and consistently at the top of the team in hits. When you have a guy who can do those things (which you need) he is bound to get hurt. Cally also has a history of returning quickly from injuries. He is also the captain of the tam who leads by example. He has been on track to score 30 goals consistently the last few years (injuries and shortened season prevented it). He is not there strictly to be an Alex Ovechkin like scoring machine. Teams are built on depth and Callahan is the ULTIMATE depth guy. If they are in PO pos at the deadline he will be resigned, 5 years 5.5mil is a reasonable #
As an aside, has anyone else noticed the proper ASS RAPING the refs have been giving the Rangers at home this year...
8 months, 1 week ago on What Would A Trading Deadline With The Rangers As Sellers Look Like?
@shoot_the_goalie@jasonshyer I was actually referring to the Original post lol...but I thoroughly enjoyed reading your last post (its funny cuz its tru)
@jasonshyerwhich part of that post was the realistic part :)
He didn't say they should gut the team, he merely suggested that they have assets and pondered what the return for said assets could be. Just because Jim Dolan only cares about one thing and doesn't know how to own a winner and hire competent management doesn't mean it's right
@shoot_the_goalieI see what your saying. Still I'm not for locking up Thornton or Orpik for any length of time for big money (which they will be looking for). Its basically going directly back to cap jail, do not pass go do not collect 200$
Very good article. Very well researched. This team is not even close this year. the top line is not comparable to top quality NHL top 3. Kreider will get there, but is 2nd line winger today. Stepan is not a top line center, Nash needs a true top line center badly. Second line is solid with Brass, Zucc and Pouliot (would be fine with Kreids as well) third line is a costs WAY too much to be a third line with Cally and Richards. 4th line is perfect. Defense lacks depth Mcdonagh is exhausted and makes mental mistakes, but he and girardi are solid. Other than that there is no depth, no puck moving defense-man and no consistent offense from the back end. This team wins games based on the skill and heart of the Brass/Zucc line the penalty killing and grinding of the 4th line, and Ryan Mcdonagh at his peak. there lucky to be in the playoff race at this point. Tough decisions must be made, starting with Sather stepping down once and for all and letting this organization rebuild.
Terrible idea trade away younger assets with big salaries and get older bigger salaries...it just doesnt make sense if ur gonna trade these guys it has to be for picks and prospects not 35yr olds who will make 6mil+
If you want us to disagree at some point ur gonna have to stop making so much sense ;D
personally I dont see NY as having the patience to ever see a real deal rebuild through.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Anaheim Interested in Girardi?
@mando24179I said realistically? Orpik is likely getting more than Girardi let alone under 5 mil. Plus he is 33 years old you wanna bank that much cash on a 33 yr old who plays a physical game? Anyway he will be resigned b4 he hits UFA undoubtedly so again I ask you, who would you REALISTICALLY replace him with for under 5 mil
@mando24179lol would have hated to see what u would have offered Getzlaf and Perry 2 years ago...I ask you who would you replace him with for under 5 mil? (realistically speaking)
@Scott from SEC 224 you are my new best friend
@GiveGartneraCup@mando24179 I don't know if I can get on board with your assessment of Strallman or Orpik. Orpik is dirty and recently got his head slammed on the ice by Shawn Thronton It was a dirty sucker punch, but I think he's more of a pest than a real intimidator.. As far as Strallman, there are moments over the last few years when I thought he was very underrated, and other moment where he looks unengaged and lost. I have no idea what to make of him, but I certainly would not value hm over cally, Stall or Griradi. Especially if you going on numbers or minutes logged
@Scott from SEC 224@JonMuro@GiveGartneraCupwell said. Whats the move? Move Girardi for Picks/prospects?
@mando24179i think you could get Kane and a pick...throwing Peluso or a prospect in seems unlikely
@GiveGartneraCupI completely understand you point, I just feel like if you feel a team is close but just needs to make a few adjustments, than you have to sign the best player available for that position that is affordable. I am nowhere near as down on Girardi as some folks on here, and I truly think he will still have value in 2 years at 4 mil. with the way these Gm's hand out cash that will look like a steal in two years when the cap goes up (See Carter, Jeff). It also others me that some people give up on players so fast (not saying you do, just what I see on the blog) I agree that its based on future expectation, but how do you judge what that is? No one can predict the future so you can only go on a players entire body of work. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. I wonder if 2 years ago everyone here would have been calling for Getzlaf and Perry to be traded and labeling them as soft, washed up underachievers...
@TruBluEsp@JonMuroAhhh got ya in that case 100% agree
@mando24179who is saying Girardi is worth 5mil+? and what is everyone's obsession with Orpik? The guy has scored exactly 4 goals in the last 5 years, he is the exact same size, plays less min and is four years older than Girardi. I just don't get it. In any case noone should agree with signing him to 5 years 5 mil + that's just not sensible
@TruBluEspI hear you, but generally, swapping an under achieving NHL forward is only gonna get you back an under achieving NHL forward. Trading a viable asset for other NHL players only makes sense if you think the team is close and has an abundance of depth at certain position and lacks depth at another. It defeats the purpose to trade current assets for current assets instead of restocking the team with prospects and draft picks if you feel like the team is going nowhere fast. I would happily move Stepan for the right deal, but that deal would need to include a top six winger, and only because we already have to legit 2nld line centerman. to me there is no place for both Brassard and Stepan on this team. Stepan is a bit more proven, but Brassard has a higher ceiling. Neither are anymore than a #2 centerman though.
@TruBluEspI agreed with everything you said except getting multiple nhl ready players in to address shortcomings...its either one or the other, you blow up the team to get picks and prospects, or you look to resign vets and pick up a few missing pieces through trades or free agency. Right now there isn't enough high end talent that's gonna make it to UFA so my guess is blowing it up would be best. that said, all Dolan cares about is ratings so we will NEVER truly rebuild in NY until he sells the team
@GiveGartneraCup@JonMuro@Scott from SEC 224Dude lets be real, Matt Greene would be a steal but he is getting resigned by LA before he hits UFA. Same with Orpik and he is 4 years older than Girardi. Dan Boyle is ancient and he makes almost 7 million $ even if he takes a cut its not gonna be less than 4.5 and tha'ts a fact. In 2 years at 31 G will still have value. This is a very tough time for the rangers, there just isn't alot of moves to be made out there. The team is right in the middle of the pack. They're better than the bad teams like Fla and Buf, but no where near as good as Boston or Chi. you gotta decide if they are closer to being competitive with a few of the right pieces, or they need to blow up the team and rebuild from scratch. 2 years ago this team finished first in the east and made the finals, last year they made it to second round and Boston just beat us on depth. One bad season with a new coach and new system is not reflective of how good they could be with more time and the right pieces. At the same time they may very well need to blow up the team, and if that's the case, suggesting we sign Orpik or Boyle is just silly, and my point is proven even further. In 2 years Girsdri will be 31 and still have value. You can look at moving him again then, or he becomes a veteran depth defensive d-man in 3-5 years once the team can strengthen there top 6 with development from within like Kristo and
Lindberg, plus be restocked with talent for dealing assets like Callahan, Byole and delzDtto for prospects or draft
@GiveGartneraCup@JonMurodon't misunderstand me, I am not saying absolutely don't' move him. I'm saying you have two options and that's sign him to a deal that makes sense and doesnt handcuff them going forward, or move him for realistic prospects. Some peoples expectations are just not in the realm of reality. See my response to @Scott from SEC 224for expanded thought process
@Scott from SEC 224@JonMuroOh I agree 100% I'm saying the deal with the Rangers needs to be 4-5 for under 5 or they will need to move him at the deadline so as not to walk away with nothing. Some people on here are proposing trades for players that are just outrageous and will absolutely not happen. Other folks are ready to bury Girardi for a bag of pucks and suggest turning down a reasonable deal for under 5m. at that price he's a steal and will still have value in 2 years. There is literally no one else out there to realistically replace him with in the next 2 years (UFA,realistic trade etc.)
Lol u guys r nuts. If they can sing him 4 yrs under 5 mil its gettin done. If not hes getting moved for a defensive prospect and a forward prospect the caliber of which is exactly what Anaheim is offering. I also don't feel like seeing Girardi shutting is down on the bruins for the next few years when they inevitably resign him if we move him there (cuz they don't take a giant shit on their personnel based off one mediocre season) Rangers will suck as long as fans continue to demand trades after every season we dont win a cup. Dont u get it, u got rick nash cuz all Dolan cares about is selling tickets and tv deals. Why do u think sather has job 4 life?
@Scott from SEC 224@JonMurocouldn't have said it better myself, though I do think a conditional 1st could be in the cards from a team like Boston or Anaheim based on his body of work and how stacked they would be on the back end with a guy like G.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Rangers Ask About Barrie; Shopping Girardi
Some of the folks on this comment board shouldn't even be allowed to post on the internet let alone suggest roster moves for a professional sports team. Girardi plays BIG minutes, tops in the NHL in fact for a few years now. His value is as good as any big ticket rental in the last 5 years, but that means a prospect or two and a pick, nothing more nothing less. 5 mil is a big # for him indeed, but who do you plan on replacing him with? Go ahead and name these mythical, comparable, available d-men...
