Ok, who died and made her a fashion icon.  I can pick out just from that pic that there are a few things out of line.  I am soo tired of the public hating on the Obama's.  That is very disrespectful of Lauten and she is being a racist.  I have never seen such disrespect of a President and his Family.  No other president has had the outbursts and comments and not to mention invasions of their "safe haven", the White House.  What is wrong with this?  Well being AA.  I am sure she was not a "All American Good Girl".  The Obama girls have values and know what is expected of them.  They are young ladies, children, girls.  They should be off limits for all.  To insult the young ladies parents and them being bad role models, shows that she had mal-intent and is racist.  To each is his/her own.  You may or may not agree with Obama, but as the POTUS and FLOTUS, respect is due, as we all gave every other president and his family before the Obama's.  I'm sure that it bothers Obama, that the people who were appointed and paid to protect and serve under him, may be out for him and his family all because they are AA.  Not a fair deal, so I applaud the Obama's for holding their heads up high through this nightmare of a job and breaking barriers in more ways than one.

Hello Chris,

I have you and your family in prayer. I can understand what you are going through.  Take good care of your emotions, because you have tried and there is nothing you can do but enjoy and keep showing how much you love your sister.

Chris,

I have been away for a while and I am playing catch-up.  I wish that I could have been a part of this fight.  You have been so instrumental in changing views on how we as black women think about ourselves and how to have our happiness with whom we choose.  I thank you and love you and if there is any support you need, you got it.  We need you...  I hate you had to experience this pain.  We are with you.

Changes do make us better rather we go through the good or bad to get there.  This week I learned a valuable lesson after being robbed.  I could be agoraphobic, but I must realize that I need to be more aware of who is around me, who is let into my home and that i can replace those things, even the things I thought was most precious.  My things do not own me, I own them.  Yes I work hard for them and some given as sentimental gifts, but they are still stuff.

I am in awe of both video's.  I love the romaticism of the first video, the second is could be depicted as more of the Hoochie type.  I think it is based on the maturity of the artists.  The first video was done with class.

So if me and my Mom went to this event (and she is still hot, she rides a Harley with my Dad)  I would be left with my purse open having to pay and my mother (LOL) is in the club partying.   Imagine that....  Mom wears her hair blonde most of the time.  and my hair can be in twists, they would then still be dumb-founded.  I have recently experience a group of women who were not very taking or kind to me as each of them felt a little more elite about themselves, began to get more friendly as the saw my Mom.  That is not the first incident.   I am probably the one who talks to everybody.  Even a lamp-post if it talked back (LOL).  But when you have your own race of people being this dumb and separating you out because of your dark skin, we still have a lot of educating to do.

I was very upset when DJ Michael Baisden, had a show about who can cook better light or dark,  well I thought I guess my creole, bi-racial granny and her sisters cooked they learned from their very-dark skinned West-Indies African Mother, how do you explain that?  I wanted to call him and did not. darn....  Black women can birth babies with blonde-hair and blue eyes to velvet chocolate.  Will be ever learn not to do what is on that poster which hurts us and eventually their children.

@Yorkshireman in Michigan @KayJacks @Morenika I love the idea of you being a citizen now as we need to stomp out all racism together.  I am sorry that you face others stupidity.   I am sure you had a surprise learning about the history of Dearborn and Dearborn Heights.  It's funny because the Caucasian community looks down on AA everywhere and there especially, but when you have other people that were not a part of building this country and making the very ground and market what is is looking down on you also that is bad.  I know for a fact that the population that does not have a rich history here and lives in your area, are the one's who drive the largest BMW's, Escalades, and Mercedes, but uses our medicaid insurance like no other.  Just ride past the Department of Human Service office in your area and you can see what is out there in the lots and drive to any given shopping store near by, you will see this.  I am a descendant as most AA's are of the Native American's and those who bled their blood, fought battles, and shed  many a tear here, if I lost my job tomorrow and I have worked to put into the system for a very longtime, I could not get medicaid and other free government assistance.  They would make me go back and fight wars and shed blood through whippings before I get that little bit of assistance and I would need the most.    Oh your sis-in-law will think OMG.

LOL  I was just in Taylor-Tuckey to train a group of people.  The mind set there is like being in the old Kentucky.  You Mom is too funny.  I will always remember his feeling, the event there and the actions taken.  Taylor-Tuckey reminds me of a time when I was a young child probably 4 or 5 years in age.  My Grandfather always drove us to his home town of Nashville every year.  He liked to start his drive in the we hours of night.  Usually with to cars caravanning to Nasvhille, his brother and family.  I remember we were  the only two cars on the road as a third car was speeding up behind us.  It was a black Trans-Am with the bird on the hood.  He pulled on the side of us, my father riding in the back holding me, rolled down his window.  We though something was wrong with our car.  I remember his fiery red cheeks and mean look, he did all that to call us based Ni@#'s .  My father yelled at my Grandfather his father-in-law to pull up.  My father who was also an officer and the black version of Arnold Schwartnagger (sorry about the spelling)  yelled back and said "Yo Mama"....  The man turned even more red and flew off into the night.  My Grandfather had to explain in horror to me that that man was ignorant and stupid.  What a night that was.

I am one who fully understands the Stand your ground law.  I myself come from a long line of officers and believe in protecting your home,  I know in this day and age it is hard to tell rather or not someone knocking on your door for help is legitimate.  I don't believe that for one minute a bloody young woman could have been a threat.  Even if he did not want to let her in, he should have called 911.  In the area he lives in and the city that is neighboring is know for its racism as in the local mall in Dearborn, at the Lord and Taylor was sued for a racial incident a few years back.  The past mayor also made it a point that people should stay out of the parks meaning AA.  Now that particular area is also inhabited with one of the largest Arab-American populations in the country.  Local mosques has had issues with the caucasian community there, but yet in still African Americans have not been welcomed because even the Arab community had proven that AA is not welcomed there.

I am sure the past mayor that was in office 20 years ago who did not welcome AA in its community is turning in his grave.  I lived in a town neighboring Dearborn Heights and Dearborn and yes racism is still an issue.  Even in the little area in Dearborn Heights where few AA live, it is set up as townhouse, but to me this is a classic housing project that is near an old housing project that was torn down in recent years.

I believe he that the man that killed Miss McBride thought he would be seen as a hero and on the news telling his story of  victory such as (yeah I stopped a crime happening in my home).  What he got was an innocent young woman who's family and her surrounding community left with grief and asking if we ( meaning me also) AA should be traveling through that area.  Just like an area here called Howell, where the Grand Wizard of the KKK was know to live in recent but past years.  As my Mother would journey to East Lansing, Michigan where Michigan State University was to pick my brother up, I remember her saying "Oh no, Howell lets move down the highway quickly" and my Mom was at the time a well know DPD Officer turned Investigator who is licensed to carry a gun all over Michigan.  She is a Sharpshooter and Marksman and she was afraid.... So imagine how powerless most AA feel in situations such as the Martin and McBride case.

Unfortunately this is the "Ole Plantation, House N/Field N mentality.  His mother is not even ashamed, because its sad when you don't know, that you don't know.  My Mom, a lovely light-skinned woman, has always praised me as her chocolate baby, especially when light-skinned cousins were cruel.  Lets just say I trump all.......  I always knew that a lot of people in the AA community felt this way.  I would also encourage our darker-skinned sisters to step-outside the box if that fool is even with in a 10 mile radius of them.

@Yorkshireman in Michigan @Morenika Oh I do understand.  My Brother and his wife.  College Sweethearts, then they split apart. Years later when he matured, he found her in Florida.  So from the time she moved to Chicago from Florida, the relationship was solid.  He lived in Michigan.  However her job caused her to spend three weekends in Hong Kong every other month, even after he moved to Chicago to be with her.  She quit her executive job and now is at home in Chicago while trying to start their family.  Long distance relationships cultivation can work.   His plan was mapped for him and her...  I go yuk overtime my sister-in-law goes, "MYYYY HUSBAND".....  that is like every other word for her.......Love them both...

Oh I have a true story about meeting the most gentle , sexy, Police office of Italian heritage.  He stopped me and asked me why I ran through the light.  I innocently said "Well if you said I did, I did".  He was so shocked that I did not yell, curse and scream at him as you know some sisters can do.  They will curse you, your mama, your family and all of the unborn children.  He said wow most people are yelling at me.  I hate I wrote this ticket.  I told him about my parents being officers and he said, what you should have told me that.  He started to apologize and I felt then as I should get out and hold his hand.  Again as I am shy, and find myself doing things out of the norm lately, I sent him an invite to see me speak at my toastmasters meeting.  He called a day to late.   He had to make sure that I was not just using him to get out of a ticket.  now ending,  we talked all the time and had planned dates, but he is concerned of what others might think if he dates me.   I told him to bad, he was missing out on a good person.

I as a counselor understand that it is important to remain in control of a group even a group of women.  I use to be a little mousey however, I can also take it to the street.  As a person who is also working on her Ph.D.  and recently diagnosed with Essential or in my case Familial Tremors, I dare anyone.  I have voice tremors, so sometimes it may come across like a stutter.  My heart also is in teaching.  I have been through the work place bullying where the person and others had to be told about, but I also fought back not what people think a typical African American woman would do, I went to leadership.  They did not want any lawsuits and these people were put in check.  Granted I did have verbals and they also knew that if I felt the threat of physical violence, I had the power.  (LOL)  I might have a strong dose of pepper spray waiting on you.  and just like yesterday, I had worked a very long day over and my voice was tired and my tremors were there, I was asking one lady a question when her friend said" Oh Spit it out".  I turned my head like the exorcist and told her politely, I have voice tremors.  Even though I have the Et disorder, it was non of her business and I get tired of smart arses like her.  She was embarrassed afterwards, I held my head up and kept on going.    Bullying regardless of personality, race, or for any reason should not be tolerated.  I will not have it....even on my worst tremor day.
