I can't take Berube seriously as a coach.... all I remember was that he was a ferocious enforcer with the Flyers.... a very violent guy always willing to mix it up and stick up for his teammates... would probably fight ten times a game if they allowed him to....

I just can't take him seriously behind the bench!   :-D

Emery might not have looked good, but the Rangers had only scored one goal on him before the third period onslaught... Let Mason come in... I think it is a huge mistake to put a punch drunk player in because he is trying to be macho than Emery.... Mason is going to see even more stars on Sunday.... his head will be spinning...

@Say my Name The Rangers looked incredible... and who was in the penalty box for Philly?  That rookie... tough break... he must have felt like absolute shit for allowing those two goals on the power play because of his silly stick infraction..

What a great series of highlights... on that second power play goal, the Rangers looked as good as any other power play I've ever seen... just magical... their skill is magnificent when the timing is right and I think the timing is right!!!

Let's just hope the Flyers don't pull a Matt Carkner and try to take a cheap shot at our stars to throw us off our timing..... it can happen.

It is the ONLY way they can win.

I didn't realize what a dirty scummy little player that Rinaldo is... do you know how often you wish that that type of player plays for your team?  Well in Rinaldo's case, I do NOT wish for that!  He is just a sucky little player... I'd rather have Simmonds, Prust, or even Matthew Barnaby type player over Rinaldo... what a little bitch...

If our power play continues to click, you can bet the Flyers will think twice about taking stupid penalties... which means they do not have much of a game plan and will be forced to play cleaner hockey, which they cannot.... so a strong power play could spell a sweep!!!

Philadelphia looked flat and awful... nothing there, except Hartnell's one play on Philly's goal..

I hope they play this way for the next three games... then it will be a sweep.... just an awful looking, disinterested looking Philadelphia team...

Honestly?  The Flyers just don't seem to have enough skill.... aside from Hartnell's very aggressive play on McDonagh that led to their only goal, the Flyers looked like we look when we are playing shitty....

Your lacrosse story illustrates the important lesson: Playing to your strength... it's as if the Bruins suddenly said, let's play a finesse Euro type of game.  That would be music to their opponents ears.

Fact is, you have to play to your strengths.. changing strategy to "surprise" your opponent is useless, unless your team sucks and you have nothing to lose.

AG Blue, that is another high quality forward..... so Kesler, Duchene, Statsny and Cammalleri.....  four high quality forwards that could skate circles around Brad Richards these days...

Seems we are obsessed with people's past performance and never think about what they will do in the future... it's like we think players are ageless.  Maybe that is because Sather is old and he wants to believe he is forever young????

Some good posts below... if we play Philly's rock em' sock em' robots hockey - basically play to disable the opposition, then we will lose... we just have to play our high flying game - skill, speed and deft... Philly just can't match up with us... and if they try to get physical, well turn the other cheek... partially!  We still have Carcillo and Dorsett to do the rough stuff, but mark my words, THAT IS NOT OUR GAME.

Stay out of the nasty stuff and we will win this series 4-2

Kevin, you said:   "I’m not at all one of those people still stuck in 1990 screaming for “TOUGHNE"SS”  but in this kind of atmosphere against a team proficient in physicality he might not be the guy you want out there as Scott Hartnell or Wayne Simmonds is slamming his stick into Lundqvist’s arm or to battle for a puck in the corner"

A rather paradoxical statement, don't you think?

There is no need to seek toughness if there is no threat or if skill alone will win games..  fully agree....

But when you need to be tough, you can't automatically press a button and presto, you are tough!  You either have it or you do not.... we need it and we should use it, WHEN NECESSARY....

Rangers have more skill than Philly, that is the problem.... Philly knows the only way to beat New York is to try and beat up the Rangers and bounce us around.... what would you do if you were Philly?  Instruct your players to use harsh language to intimidate us?!

For all you Euro hockey lovers who love no touch hockey, you're going to enjoy this series.  I wonder if Wayne Simmonds has been instructed not to play physical because this is the playoffs and Philly doesn't want to take any penalties... think that is also on Hartnell's mind when he face washes McDonagh? lols

Here is a lesson worth noting....

Philadelphia has had a tradition of tough goons... very tough.... like Dave Brown, Dave Schultz, Craig Berube [their current coach!!!], Donald Brashear, and even Rick Tocchet, who could actually play....

This year they have Rosehill....

When the Rangers played the Flyers once in the 1974 [?] playoffs, Dave Schultz grabbed Ranger Dale Rolf's head and started beating the shit out of him.  The rest of the Rangers stood around and watched, just like that game in Vancouver when Burrows ran McDonagh, or that game when Carcillo, then of the Flyers, beat the crap out of Gaborik....

The result of that Rolf mauling was the Philadelphia went on to beat us and advance in the playoffs....  We were humiliated and intimidated for the rest of the series....

Mark my words, I hope this does not happen again this year... it will be deja vu.

All in all.... I think we beat Philadelphia 4-2.... our power play, rejuvenated by St. Louis who learned something watching the Montreal game from the sidelines and taking notes like John Moore did, is on fire and scores five goals in the series.

Do you remember the last time Philly played us?  Wayne Simmonds had one of his dirtest games ever, slashing our defenseman and playing like a convict.

Well, no problem.... we also have Carcillo, who can do the same.... Dorsett is also a tough little bull dog... and then our enforcer Mats Zuccarello.... seriously though, Simmonds is a one man wrecking crew and Scott Hartnell, although old and can't fight very well has a lot of heart.

I just don't think we match up against them in the toughness department, if they dress Rosehill and he runs around like a mad bull in a China shop... we need to bring up.......

We should be good against Philly.... we have to be ready to counter Philly's nastiness... remember Chris Neil against us a short while back?  Remember how he and Carkner tried to beat us up and intimidate us?  We could barely fight back and that almost did us in.... I know it is not popular, but we should have Michael Haley waiting in the wings to take on the likes of Simmonds as needed.... I still am in awe at what he did against the Pittsburgh Penguins... remember gents... intimidation is part of this game..... and intimidating we are NOT!!!

@JMK8363 Again, on Richie... he is still very good and capable, but he has clearly lost a step from old age... he is just not that explosive anymore, but his skill handling the puck is still good...

Maybe he needs to spend another intense summer training with Martin St. Louis and let's hope St. Louis rubs off on him and not the other way around!!!!
