@ObviouslyItsANewSeason  850,000 IS a lot for a 23 year old!!!!!  The average New Yorker probably grosses 850,000 in ten years... so according to you that is 5 years [which is ONLY hockey salary and maintaining his current salary] x10 or 50 years working at 85,000... not bad for a guy who is also likely to keep working after five years of hockey!

Because he is a decent player, more likely he will play at least ten years... make an average of at least 1 million... or about $10 million for his career by the time he is 33.... add another several million he should make between 33 years old and when he retires and that is at least $15 million.... ow many people retire with $15 million gross???  Maybe less than .0001% of the US population!!!

By the way, Tanner Glass is not that bad a player... if he was so bad, then why has he survived so long in the NHL... the Penguins might be morons, but at least they know how to win....

Give the guy a break.  If he sucks then get rid of him...

@ObviouslyItsANewSeason What a contrast our team is to Calgary, which is loaded with goons and very few skilled players....

I'll take our model over theirs any day of the week.... I've always touted an enforcer... we'll trade for one if we need one... hell we have enough nuts and bolt players...

The Kings were tough indeed last year and I'd like to see us go at it with them again this year... seems it will be either them or Chicago in the west... from the East, well, it will definitely be us... lols.... so take your picks now.

Okay.... now that we have shaken the disappointment of not winning the Stanley Cup last year... let's look at our experience last year this way: Damn, at least we were in the Stanley Cup finals!  I mean that means theoretically we were the second best team in the NHL... not too shabby men!!!!  I mean really to come in SECOND PLACE is NOTHING to be ashamed of... and as I think about our lethargic off season, it was actually smokin'!  We got the pieces and potential we needed.... Hayes, for a big strong Lucic like forward... and Boyle to finally do what Richards could almost do.... PLUS and most importantly.... AV has a year of success under his belt.. no learning as he goes anymore...

Duclair.... Hayes.... these two guys will be up with the big club if they can avoid injuries... they are virtually professional ready... Duclair was a bit underweight... maybe he has bulked up a bit?  If so, he is explosive... Hayes, well Hayes is Hayes... let's see if both can make the big club either this year or next....

I have a good feeling about Hayes.... even the name sounds All Star like....

Now, if he can get a good start and play to his potential, he will avoid the Jessiman Disease.... which was Ebola-esque for the Rangers!!!!!

Johnnyb... yes, seems like you are still smarting from the HUGE Jessiman signing!  Let's hope the only similarity with Hayes and Hugh is the letter "H."

As for Kristo... well, it's like dating a woman... after a short while, you can get a sense of whether she is a keeper or not.... same analogy with Kristo... we should have a sense of whether the guy will make it or not.... I have not seen enough of him, but from what it sounds like, people are still waiting to see him sustain any competitiveness.... seems like he might be a bit of a bust... hope not... but there are a lot of AHL superstars who just could not climb the last rung on the ladder.

The best thing about Kristo is his cool sounding last name.... I hope he gets a chance but he and Fast appear to be not quite capable of being top six forwards in the NHL... just too light....

This is by far the best news this summer for the New York Rangers... Hayes is exactly what the hockey doctor ordered... big, strong, tough and can score... like a well mannered Milan Lucic... he and Kreider give the Rangers a very scary one two punch... most teams just have a one punch... and he will make everyone - especially gun shy Rick Nash better... Now let's hope he lives up to his billing....

I can just see Sather with all his bullshit and the "Sather brand" selling Hayes to come to New York...

I am so excited because he is the missing piece to the Stanley Cup puzzle... with him... and an effective Dan Girardi (unlike his awful play in the Stanley Cup) we contend....

@Say my Name Girardi is a serviceable defenseman.... he is usually solid and a plug and play guy... but he is barely a first pair type of D-man....

I think Staal will outshine him... Girardi is all banged up and worn down, like the tires on my car... and after his meltdown in the Cup finals, he is lucky to get any sort of multi-year deal....

@FBKs10 FBK, I'd like to build on your post.... why not trade Stepan for Mickey Mouse, and bring back Brad Richards... then Richards can slot right back onto the first line and Mickey can be our solid second line center....

Seems that the right kind of players to trade for and draft are DURABLE players because even stars like Staal always get injured, which reduces their effectiveness....

.... then of course, the Rangers trade for them after they are injured or are too old to do anything useful long term - e.g., Pavel Bure.... Richards..... Nash..... Dionne.... the list is endless!!!

..... and why is it that the Los Angeles Kings seem to have so little controversy about retaining their stars?  Did they negotiate effectively earlier on, so that they don't have to do year in, year out negotiations with the same players?  Do they create more trust with their players....

Whatever the case, we seem to be constantly having to negotiate salaries with our star players.

Seems a bit too excessive.... seems like if we negotiated effectively the first time, we would not have to be "re-doing" unfavorable terms and conditions all the time...

That makes me think that Sather needs to upgrade his negotiating skills or get someone in there who knows how to do it right.

@Billfrom Brookhaven  Now the pressure is on for Subban to play like he is worth $9.0 million per season.  Fact is, he cannot.  No one except Gretzky, Messier or Orr could play like that.

The Canadiens overpaid and they will discover this when they try to re-engineer their line up come next spring and find that the only defenseman they can add is Del Zotto or a Wade Redden type.

Here is my prediction..... if this Hayes lives up to his hype - which he might.... and we can get him.... then we have an even better shot at the Cup this year.... we are missing just one link..... a rugged forward to take it to the net.... Nash was suppose to be the man, but he did not come through..... if we get Hayes.... and Girardi does not have a MELTDOWN like he did against the Kings.... then the Cup is ours!!!!!!!!

@Tanner Glass Hayes is precisely the type of player the Rangers need!  Young, tough, hungry and can score.... Tanner Glass?  A role player... not bad, not great, but in the same mold as a Carcillo, without as much offensive skills... but serviceable.

@Josh-CK  I don't care what he did in the past.  It's how he performs now.  We should learn from trading away fierce warrior type players who want to win.  Didn't you watch the Kings in this year's Stanley Cup, or were you following the Yankees?!

But the most incredible thing watching the videotapes, was DUBINSKY STANDING UP FOR TEAMMATES..... He stood up against Carcillo and Crosby... right in there in their face.... I miss Dubinsky... he has really emerged as a tough, exciting really good hockey player.

Agree totally with BobDunne.... For all the negativity surrounding Carcillo, he came up big at times.... he had more impact than half of our team... he is not a Wayne Gretzky.... he is a player who knows how to protect his teammates and who can surprise you with his offensive prowess.  Sure, he made a mistake by trying to free himself from an OVERLY AGGRESSIVE linesman during the playoffs... but frankly that is such a minor infraction compared to the goals and excitement he brought to our season last year...

Re-sign the guy!!!  Either that or go get Big Boy trouble-maker LUCIC.... he also has a temper and can protect his teammates, but costs five times as much as Carcillo... you work the math.

Great signing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Absolutely delighted that both parties agree... This is the type of win-win negotiations we should have had with Callahan, except that his lawyer  rep is a douche.  Having said that... it just goes to show that people are generally selfish and greedy, so each to his or her own.

I don't know why we signed Glass and would keep Carcillo, unless Sather wants a fourth line of Glass, Moore and Carcillo....  or have Carcillo as a back up in Hartford in case Glass gets hurt/vice versa
