Do what it takes to get Duclair in the NHL.....

Wow.... watching the highlights this year vs. last is a treat... we are indeed, faster and our timing is better... Nash looks like a new man... new weight, new haircut = 40 goals in 2014/5...

Duclair.... he is awesome... maybe the string bean look will work in the big burly NHL... but we'll eventually have to protect him as opponents will definitely run him.... that is the price we will pay.

But he looks simply awesome... his timing, speed, quickness are unparalleled since - dare I say.....  PAVEL BURE.

I'd love Hayes and Duclair in our line up for the whole season... scoring playing well.... The only fear I have of Duclair is that he is a bit light... only 180lbs or so.... he might not be able to take the full season of getting banged all over the place... Hayes will want to play in the big leagues because I am sure that was part of the deal for him coming over.... so he'll at least get a shot...

GIVE GARTNERA CUP... I'd agree with your line-ups  except I'd like to see Hayes on the fourth line with Malone and Moore.. ordinarily, I'd say this is the kiss of death to be with a "checking line" but look at the two players - Moore and Malone - big time players who can also score.... this could be a very devastating line, given other teams will try to match up with our first two lines...  I don't see another fourth line in the league being quite as lethal as ours....

We could roll four very dangerous lines... I think we did a damn good job bottling up the Hawks top players....   LET TEAMS ADJUST TO US, RATHER THAN US ADJUSTING TO THEM.

I just think Hayes need a shot... and if he can't play center and prefers wing... then maybe that is the answer.... alternatively let him center the third line..... Miller to the second line.... when Step returns, Hayes back to the fourth line wing....

Thoughts please....

@BringBackBeukeboom Hahaha, yes, yes!  You see, Torts really took a 180 and became an awful, angry man, which made him a lousy coach... he might have been good with Tampa, but his temper, awful self control made him a terrible coach with us and Vancouver.... witness his implosion when Vancouver played Calgary and he tried to storm the Calgary dressing room... what was he thinking?  That he was Mel Gibson in the movie BRAVEHEART??!!

@betweentheworlds What the hell.... the guy is over the hill.... cut him some slack.... the problem was that we paid him through the roof and he performed like  a Wade Redden..... so we feel bitter [rightly].

The guy will be lucky if he makes it to the starting gate.... he should retire.

Is Duclair the REAL DEAL?  I have not seen  him play, only read about him.... he seems to know how to score.... a bit young, but big and strong enough?

Can he take the pounding???

What is he like?

@Josh-CK Love the BOLD prediction of Duclair on the first line... if as advertised, he could be a sensation... much like that Tomas Hertl guy from San Jose, who lit us up early on last season....

The silver lining of Stepan's injury is that it opens up TWO spots at center for Hayes, Lombardi or Miller.... Brassard moves to the first line... Miller to the second line....Hayes or Lombardi to the third line and Moore remains on the fourth line.... I would count on Moore stepping up to the third line with ease if we do not have enough there, because he is a very versatile and dependable player.  But I know Hayes or Lombardi will get the job done.

Some very positive reports on our new talent.... and the best thing is that AV is back... the guy is a damn good coach and knows strategy and how to get the most out of his team.  It seems that we have more "parts" this year and potential breakthrough players.... Malone, for example, sounds better than Benoit... and Glass = Carcillo at least.... and Miller, well look at the posts....

I have high expectations.... mostly because AV IS BACK and it appears that he has more to work with this year than last....

@KevinMccarthy  Agreed.... He'll play when we need toughness, that is all... he will NOT play against teams like Detroit and most others.... the only teams he might play against are rivals like Philadelphia and the Islanders... maybe Ottawa to keep Chris Neil at bay!

@KevinMccarthy Actually, training camp will be intriguing... it is anyone's guess how things will shake out.  Even after the opening day line up is decided, things could very easily change after a few games.  There are no obvious choices, so let the cream rise to the surface and let players performance decide who goes and who stays.... part of all this is also chemistry.... which players can play best together?  We don't need any "one man shows" who dilute team performance.

@KevinMccarthy @JoeyKocur Agree, based on his performance at Traverse City.  Perhaps he might be brought up during the year.   I am sure that part of his willingness to sign with New York, was the opportunity to play with the big club this year.  At the same time, it can't be guaranteed... he has to produce.  The last thing we need are highly touted rookies, whose reputations are bigger than their performance.

Okay.... third line two slots open with Hagelin slotted at one of the wings..... fourth line two slots open on the wings around Dominic Moore..... so four open slots:

I have NO idea who the four players will be... haven't seen anyone play this year.  Stempniak has a track record, as does Malone with the Golden Boys Hayes and Miller always around...

We lack grit and size, so Miller, Stempniak and Malone and Hayes [if he is ready] would not be a bad bunch, with Glass coming in to replace Stempniak if we need additional toughness....

It would be good to have Kreider and Hayes as two crushing power forwards in the line up at the same time....

Mac is probably our best skater... he has impact and he leads by example.... if that were the only criteria, then he is a shoe-in.

But being a captain is more than that... you have to LEAD people more than just by example.... you have to be mature, vocal when necessary and sometimes stand up and be bold.... Can Mac do that?

Actually, based on courage, guts and gumption, I'd pick D Moore as captain... smart, brave and a feisty competitor....

@DP_Snotty Based on his performance last year, Nash has as good a chance being named captain as Tanner Glass.

Having said that, if Nash plays to his potential, he would be considered for captaincy as much as anyone....

I like Moore a lot, but I wonder if MCQUAID at a few QUID more is worth it?  Both are tough and can play...

@BringBackBeukeboom Yes... this is astounding... he played a couple of years ago, so he broke in at 19, right?  Which is just high school age.... so he was a boy playing against men... now he is the age of a rookie, so if he makes the big club then terrific... he is on schedule to have a fruitful NHL career as a possible top six forward.

@ObviouslyItsANewSeason Actually, I even thought the official should have been reprimanded for jerking Carcillo around by the jersey... exactly the WRONG way to treat ANYONE... just an inappropriate way to handle the situation...... in my opinion, the referee antagonized Carcillo unnecessarily.....

@JMK8363  Good question.... maybe Glass has improved his game?  Maybe AV did not roll four lines because the other two players on that line were not reliable?

Who is a better player, Carcillo or Glass?

From what I could see last year, Carcillo played his role and also surprised with some timely offense.... I don't know how the two players compare, but I would be impressed to see Glass contribute a goal here and there when needed.... can he do this?  I don't know....

For me, the jury is out on Glass.... I am still puzzled why the Rangers  let Carcillo go and decided to pick up a more expensive version of Carcillo, who might not be able to deliver any offense....

@ObviouslyItsANewSeason  850,000 IS a lot for a 23 year old!!!!!  The average New Yorker probably grosses 850,000 in ten years... so according to you that is 5 years [which is ONLY hockey salary and maintaining his current salary] x10 or 50 years working at 85,000... not bad for a guy who is also likely to keep working after five years of hockey!

Because he is a decent player, more likely he will play at least ten years... make an average of at least 1 million... or about $10 million for his career by the time he is 33.... add another several million he should make between 33 years old and when he retires and that is at least $15 million.... ow many people retire with $15 million gross???  Maybe less than .0001% of the US population!!!

Okay.... now that we have shaken the disappointment of not winning the Stanley Cup last year... let's look at our experience last year this way: Damn, at least we were in the Stanley Cup finals!  I mean that means theoretically we were the second best team in the NHL... not too shabby men!!!!  I mean really to come in SECOND PLACE is NOTHING to be ashamed of... and as I think about our lethargic off season, it was actually smokin'!  We got the pieces and potential we needed.... Hayes, for a big strong Lucic like forward... and Boyle to finally do what Richards could almost do.... PLUS and most importantly.... AV has a year of success under his belt.. no learning as he goes anymore...

As for Kristo... well, it's like dating a woman... after a short while, you can get a sense of whether she is a keeper or not.... same analogy with Kristo... we should have a sense of whether the guy will make it or not.... I have not seen enough of him, but from what it sounds like, people are still waiting to see him sustain any competitiveness.... seems like he might be a bit of a bust... hope not... but there are a lot of AHL superstars who just could not climb the last rung on the ladder.

This is by far the best news this summer for the New York Rangers... Hayes is exactly what the hockey doctor ordered... big, strong, tough and can score... like a well mannered Milan Lucic... he and Kreider give the Rangers a very scary one two punch... most teams just have a one punch... and he will make everyone - especially gun shy Rick Nash better... Now let's hope he lives up to his billing....

I can just see Sather with all his bullshit and the "Sather brand" selling Hayes to come to New York...

I am so excited because he is the missing piece to the Stanley Cup puzzle... with him... and an effective Dan Girardi (unlike his awful play in the Stanley Cup) we contend....
