Imagine.... we make the playoffs... Lundqvist gets injured in the conference finals... we go into the Stanley Cup with an uproven goalie.... wouldn't that suck!

Many have written that the Oilers have a lot of "young guns" and a lot of good assets... if that is true, why do they suck so bad?  I'm not sure I'd trade for anything up there.  I don't want to become a team with a lot of loose pieces and a lot of young guns who suck when they play together...

I know the coach makes a difference, but could it be that all the coaches in Edomonton have been incompetent since Sather?!!

@Billfrom Brookhaven I seem to recall Prust fighting with Klein in the earlier game in Montreal....

Again, it was Klein coming to the aid of Zucc, who had been checked near the boards...

Ladies and gents... this Klein guy is having impact... he can score and he has the back of his teammates he might not be big, but he is the kind of guy you want on your team.... tough like no defensemen since Beuk!!!!

Agree on your whole post.... I too, loved Klein stepping up in defense of Lundqvist....

Prust did NOT seem to intentionally knock Lundqvist over, but that's the price anyone pays for hitting your goalie... kudos for Klein to immediately go after Prust to make him "pay".

Duclair's assist... ridiculously skilled.... St. Louis.... well, that is why he is so damn dangerous.. scores on an innocent looking play and makes the Hab Emelin look like a peewee hockey player....

Nash, his backhander just had eyes through Tokarski's legs... it is just the bounces, as Nash would say.... Stepan, what a roofer... unstoppable by even Lundqvist.

D Moore.... he is awesome... like St. Louis, just a thorn on the side of the opponent... a hard, gritty clean player.  Glad he is a Ranger... makes us forget the likes of Dubinsky....

Lucic was not ready with one glove still on, but that is not an excuse.  Prout is tough. And if you're going to pussy foot around right before a fight, expect to get hit, which Lucic did.  Next time you can bet Lucic will be ready as will Prout.

it seemed that after the fight not only did Prout hold Lucic up, he even seemed to be reasoning with Lucic and telling him that he fought fair and why the hell didn't Lucic protect himself... almost apologizing to Lucic...

@J_CKfor30  Brooks is a reporter.  His job is to find the truth.... He reflected Tortorella's style... when Tortorella was having a temper tantrum, Brooksie irritated him further!

You miss Tortorella's ENTERTAINMENT VALUE, not his presence as a coach on the bench...

He was entertaining in his immaturity and irritating disrespectful behavior... I like to laugh at him.... but to have him as a coach, FORGET IT....terrible role model....

Glad that he got what he deserved, which is unemployment as a coach in the NHL....

I turned the sound down on the game because I just did not want to hear about another Tampa goal.... unfortunately, I did not turn off my computer, because all I saw was Callahan and Stamkos celebrating over and over again.... a very depressing effort... we played like peewees... like we played in the first ten games of last season.... hope we can get our MOJO back.

We sometimes forget that hockey is a business.  Players come and go and salaries are "costs" related to generating "revenues" with winning a by product.

Often the most profitable teams do NOT make the Stanley Cup because they are poorly managed with cap busting salaries.  So I don't blame Callahan for "Bolting" lols.... so to speak.

At the end of the day, winning isn't everything.... making money is.

Having said that, I do miss the gladiator days when players were loyal, rivalries intense and the game was on fire.... today, it is still a great game, but oh those were the days!!!!

Good story James.... it would be fantastic is Nash could crack 55 goals this season.  I'd be very surprised and impressed... but other teams will start keying on him and I just hope that they don't start to take liberties with him... the best thing to do is get a guy like Matt Martin to ride shotgun for him from time to time against tougher opponents... the risk of Nash getting run again is high, given his effectiveness at scoring.... we must beware.... you heard this warning first on this blog!

@Zelrio He is not as good as he was years ago, of course, but if he does NOT have to play every game, then maybe he will have enough stamina and power to play hard in those fewer games than if he had to play every game.... that exhausted him and that is why the Devils cut him... they need d-men who can play every game.

Kaberle was a very good defenseman.  Now, he is just getting old, but I do NOT think he is as bad as Wade Redden was... and Kaberle will NOT play every game.... if he plays once every four games, then he might be able to play like the shadow he was in his prime!  Let's keep our fingers crossed.... good to have a hard playing Kaberle from time to time in the line up....

Ladies and Gents.... if we send Duclair to the minors, we cannot recall him for the rest of the season.... isn't that right?  It is a bigger decision than just sending him down for a few games to sharpen him up.

Love hearing our opinions, but I'm sure there are a lot of factors we just don't see from our perspective about whether Duclair should stay or be sent down.

Not sure how reasonable it is to assess Vingneault based on Google searches for fans comments, and then selecting only those comments that criticize him.  I am sure there are plenty of comments that praise him for how he develops rookies.  You don't hear that simply because the his success stories become NHL players and nothing more is said about it.

No coach is perfect.  Everyone has their pros and cons.  Moreover, Duclair his has pros and cons that we just don't see from where we sit.

Fine to critique Alan, but if we were standing in his shoes, I'm sure his decisions would make more sense.  He is a damn good coach.

This may not be a popular comment, but I say bring back McIlrath.... he is not amazing, but neither are most of our D-men after the top four.  What he does bring is passion, emotion and hatred... emotions we are so sorely lacking.

McIrath is serviceable.  If he was not, I'd say leave him in the AHL because it is not worth bringing up just a tough guy with no skills.... but it's not like our other choices are Bobby Orr material.... McIlrath is not that much worse than Conner Allen but frankly, I'd rather see an emotional, tough guy who doesn't take crap from players running our goalies than a soft, average D-man who gets lulled into complacency.

If emotion and passion is what we need, let's bring up what we have, if it can do the job without sacrificing a lot.

Lethargic offense, as everyone was thinking about back checking to support a suspect defense.

Not a good effort at all.  Absolutely no doubt that Kostka and Allen are AHL defensemen.  We should be more competitive with Boyle and Moore back in the line-up.  we have to compensate too much with only four decent caliber defensemen on our NHL roster.

The most valid comments are that we are only playing with three legitimate NHL D-men....

Let's face it.... our three other D-men are AHL/boarderline NHL..... no wonder we give up easy goals.... Talbot is NOT a disaster.. he he a decent goalie and it is not his fault that we lost last night's game.

Having said that.... if we are going to play AHL D-men, you might as well bring up Mac and let him beat the shit out of forwards who abuse our goaltenders .

@Nyrfaninvegas Duclair is skilled quick and has a great release, but he seems too fragile for the big leagues... I'm afraid when he goes into the corners, his gravity is just not enough... that guy must be about 165lbs vs. 200lbs + average D-men....

Even if Stepan returned, he would not be 100% and that is when you re-injure or injure something else... I don't mind that he sits a couple of games just to regain his form and fitness.... seeing him go down again because he was just not quite fit or favoring his leg would be a huge loss....

Duclair has a great opportunity tomorrow... he should play well against the high flying Habs because he is even higher flying than they are.... probably one of a few rookies the Habs will see who can skate and release quicker than their whole team... and he will make them pay if they don't play defense...

Duclair should do well against the lumbering Montreal D!

Actually, Glass has had impact.... he might not be lighting up the scoreboard, but he's been in a couple of scraps and he has presence on the ice.... he is not intimidating like Bryan McGrattan, but at least he can play and keep other players honest.

I like both Malone and Glass... Malone is a bit more dangerous in the offensive zone and is a weapon on the power play and Glass is a gritty player who is not afraid to mix it up in the corners.... he is our version of Prust.

Great victory... the Devils are a boring, colorless hockey team.  They seem to always bore me with their sleepy victories over the Rangers, which made our victory tonight that much sweeter.

In the past, it always seemed that mediocre Islander or Devils teams would beat us.  It was so frustrating to play them, because we knew we were better, but we rarely brought our A-game..... Well tonight we proved we were better, and did not succumb to a lackadaisical loss....

Great to see Klein drive to the net and score the game winner... and Nash, well, the guy is definitely quicker and knows where to be at the right time... his confidence is soaring and when he eventually plays with the full confidence he had with the Blue Jackets he will be unstoppable with his new lean, fast powerful body frame!!!

Avery was a great player.  Not a skilled player, not a speedy guy, but he was great in that he had IMPACT.  You might hate him, but his game was to be a pest and to throw the opposition into a tizzy and take them off their game.  He never backed down and he never let the Rangers back down.

Say what you want about the guy, but he did his job better than anyone in the league except maybe Dale Hunter, who was more vicious.

Hunwick played extremely well against San Jose... I don't think it is trade time at all...

We were outstanding against the Sharks, especially Hayes'e line.... just dominant.... great size against an equally big San Jose team... remember how they slaughtered us last year?  Well,  we pretty much kicked their ass back this year... Hunwick also stepped up... an excellent game showcasing how we can play when our timing is on and everyone is hustling...

Nothing wrong with this as a very good way to use a tough, intimidating defenseman.
