Such good writing!

Thanks you Anthony. I love the idea of Winnik as carlyle's third line checking center / PK specialist.  All the pieces are in place.  Franson and Clarkson will probably have a bounce back year and indeed - so much depth now to support the young guns getting better.  I love it!

@The_Polish_Cannon @leafdreamer @Savo43 @BlueSmoke @The_Irv Kadri s88t the bed when they put him up with Kessel and JVR when Bozak went down last year.  Holland"s 'great chemistry' with Lupul resulted in him getting 10 points in 39 games with the Leafs.  Bozak's defence is not a myth - he recovers pucks in the defensive zone and springs his wingers all the time and he can score and pass in the offensive zone.  Watch the games man.

Carlyle's lineup:

JVR - Bozak - Kessel

Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson

Booth/Santorelli - Winnik - Frattin/Bodie

Orr/Devane - Komarov - Kontinola

I wonder if they'll let him do it.   Probably not.  They'll probably make him drop the enforcers and move Winnik to a forth line LW so that Santorelli, Holland and Ashton can play 'the possession game' or some s**t.

@CanuckUKinToronto He's a replacement for Bolland - he's that defensive, big, gritty third line checking centre/PK specialist that can move up and down the lineup and chip in some offence as well.  I hope he stays healthy because he's replacing two guys and I don't see anyone being able to step in and fill that role if he falls.  maybe Kontinola or Komarov?  But we'll need them for support anyway... Definitely not Holland or Santorelli.

So much has happened this offseason I'm having a hard time keeping it all in my head - it would probably be a good idea for someone here to write it all up and put it in a post - like who's coming in, who left, to where, basic stats and scout reports on each player etc. all in one place.

What I find interesting is that Dubas didn't mention Carlyle in his interview at all even though this acquisition has Carlyle written all over it - a big, gritty, checker and a penalty killer ('can play center') to fill that role that Bolland and McClement used to fill.  What did we learn? -  Carlyle is probably staying and has some say in summer acquisitions and will probably have some say in roster decisions next year.  Dubas is not impressed with Winnik or Carlyle - will have nothing to do with the acquisition and won't even mention Carlyle's name.  Too much of a speculation?  What do you think?

Indeed.  It looks to me that a certain kind of  'phobia' is kicking in here.  I only posed a question which has relevance to how our team is doing and implications about the chemistry of the first line.  I didn't start a rumor, I didn't print a lie or 'wildly speculate' about anything.

I though that the whole point of Burke's engagement with 'you can play' was to provoke a discussion about sexuality within sports - to lift the taboo on homosexuality.  It seems to me that it's not going very well at least as far as this forum is concerned...

It's ok to go on about how hot a player's wife is and what the boys would like to do with/to her but if someone asks if there may be some homosexuality going on, down comes the banhammer.

@LeafFan15 Frattin looked better than Kadri at times out there with the Marlies and early with the Leafs.  It seems that there were issues with his commitment and training - maybe he needed to go have some fun down in California and get the 'party bug' out of his system.  I still think that both Kadri and Frattin have a chance to become serious 1st line players (not elite like Kane, Kessel, Crosby etc.) but very very good and legit top players.

@Bruffins @4evrblue @leafdreamer @MaxwellHowe actually, now that I think of it they may well try to spark Frattin by putting him back on a line with Kadri and Lupul.  If he doesn't deliver in the first part of the season he probably gets sent away again or just dumped.  He's the biggest question mark I'd say.  They'll probably keep the finns together but a lot depends on the preseason and training camp - Ashton and Bodie will be pushing for spots and let's not forget that Carlyle is still here and will want to play a face-puncher at least against Boston and such.

Is it just me or do you guys think that Nylander's skill-set will be difficult to translate onto small ice? From what I've seen in the highlights on youtube it seems to me that he's very good at using the open space and circling around in the offensive zone with the puck and he's definitely got speed to burn, but I don't see him being able to make quick plays or close to the net or use his body very well.  It's good to hear that he's getting bigger.

Also, Anthony, did you get a hunch on what that disagreement at the Leafs table may have been about when it was time to pick?  I'm thinking Nonis and Carlyle would have been a lot happier picking Richie and continuing with the 'big body' tendency and Shannahan laid down the law and demanded the small-ish 'skill-guy'.  Does that make sense to you?

Interesting predicament: Reimer and Franson both want out as they both feel that they are undervalued here.  If we keep them, do they play their guts out to earn a contract next year or do they play like shit because they hate their lives? And if former is the case is that one year of their good play worth letting them go for nothing after it has passed. That is the big question for the Leafs management to answer.  I'd try to trade them now for players of comparable talent that want to play in T.

@TheCanucksnaphook @leafdreamer @dlb Mad I'm very pleased - it's just that the odds are against him - I'd rather try a first rounder with a little less production right now and I don't know if we'll get the opportunity if we wait.  I'm just wondering what we could get for him.  Now's probably the time to get the best return.  If someone offered a first-rounder or a first-round pick next year I'd pull the trigger.

@Anthony Petrielli @leafdreamer @Ian from Etobicoke Well, in that case, I'll say that  I think that not recognizing a center that has very similar offensive numbers to Bergeron's and is the only plus player on the first two lines of a very bad team is comparable to Patrice Bergeron is insane.

@Jay_Berg I don't think he's misused.  I think he is used correctly - he's a good center for Kessel and JVR/Lupul.  Our first line is amazing.  Our first line (including the crucial part of that line - the guy that digs out pucks and sends the wingers off and flying) is not the problem with the Leafs.  I wish people would get off Bozak's back and start talking about getting a good checking center.  What we need is a line that can stop other people's first lines from scoring.

Bozak is good.  This season his offensive numbers were similar to Bergeron's.  If you watch his defensive play he's very smart and responsible. Not bad on faceoffs.  He's usually the guy that recovers the puck and starts the rush that ends up in JVR or Kessel goal. Kadri will get better this year.  I think we're fine on top two C.  We will miss Bolland like we missed him for most of the season.  We need a checking center.
