Interesting predicament: Reimer and Franson both want out as they both feel that they are undervalued here. If we keep them, do they play their guts out to earn a contract next year or do they play like shit because they hate their lives? And if former is the case is that one year of their good play worth letting them go for nothing after it has passed. That is the big question for the Leafs management to answer. I'd try to trade them now for players of comparable talent that want to play in T.

@N_Leafs I think you have a better chance landing McDavid in a ridiculous trade than tanking - there's Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Towes etc. all of which (or any crazy combination of first round pics and high-end talent) that will be thrown around next July for McDavid. It's gonna be awesome!

@Anthony Petrielli @leafmealone Do you actually like the movie? I think it's great. Seriously.
@Burtonboy @leafdreamer @peterbleafs He seems to score from the right point on powerpla - so keep him on the right on PP. But he's left handed - he may be better defensively on the left. Has he ever played on the left?
@Burtonboy @peterbleafs What's wrong with switching Phaneuf to the left side?
Anthony, you are the best writer on the Leafs. (period) Bang on as usual.
@dlb Mad @leafdreamer that's what I'm talking about - there's gotta be a team in the NHL that would give up a first round pick for a kid that's looking this good right now and maybe a Fransonor Reimer.
1 week, 2 days ago on Monday Mashup: The Dog Days are Here
@TheCanucksnaphook @leafdreamer @dlb Mad I'm very pleased - it's just that the odds are against him - I'd rather try a first rounder with a little less production right now and I don't know if we'll get the opportunity if we wait. I'm just wondering what we could get for him. Now's probably the time to get the best return. If someone offered a first-rounder or a first-round pick next year I'd pull the trigger.
@dlb Mad @leafdreamer I hope you guys are right but he's really small and a hiiiiigh round pick - it would literally take a miracle for him to be as good in the NHL some day as he was in the OHL last year. I wonder what we could get for him right now.
@TheCanucksnaphook or see if someone will give us their first overall or something along those lines right now for him and never look back. The kid is too small to do the kind of shit he's doing in the OHL in the big league.
@mcloki is that KHL or some swiss league?
@mcloki shitty. I thought he was coming along well...
@Anthony Petrielli @leafdreamer @Ian from Etobicoke Well, in that case, I'll say that I think that not recognizing a center that has very similar offensive numbers to Bergeron's and is the only plus player on the first two lines of a very bad team is comparable to Patrice Bergeron is insane.
2 weeks, 3 days ago on Sunday Mashup: Leafs News and Notes
@Anthony Petrielli @leafdreamer @Ian from Etobicoke wow. why are you getting so mad then? there must be something to it to get you so excited. I'm just saying that that their offensive production was similar and that one plays on the good team and another on a bad team. Bergeron is not the only guy on Bruins and Canada's Olympic team. Insane? Not having a clue? If I called you insane you'd probably have me banned from here.
@Anthony Petrielli @leafdreamer @Ian from Etobicoke whatever man - my point is that he plays on a good defensive team and Bozak doesn't.
@Yan28 @leafdreamer @Cameron19 I know :( I didn't know he was a Habs fan. Is that for sure? Stamkos maybe?
@Anthony Petrielli @leafdreamer @Ian from Etobicoke Horton was a Bruin and played on Bergeron's line until replaced by Iginla. Lucic's line is also very good at checking.
@Jay_Berg I don't think he's misused. I think he is used correctly - he's a good center for Kessel and JVR/Lupul. Our first line is amazing. Our first line (including the crucial part of that line - the guy that digs out pucks and sends the wingers off and flying) is not the problem with the Leafs. I wish people would get off Bozak's back and start talking about getting a good checking center. What we need is a line that can stop other people's first lines from scoring.
@Jay_Berg No. I'm saying that they are similar and that the hate-on that most people here have for Bozak is unjustified.
@Dewy Keon Hogturd @leafdreamer I read above. It seems that all we have is 'drager said so'. what am I missing?
@Ian from Etobicoke @leafdreamer now that's more of an argument. but point per game production I think is in Bozak's favor last year. Also, Bergeron plays ona much better team with Chara and Lucic backing him up, Iginla and Horton - all big strong , very strong defensively.
@Yan28 @leafdreamer I don't think it's true that Nonis offered him 4.75 / 5. If true you're very right.
@Jay_Berg that's a pretty sophisticated argument bud - I was convinced at 'done'
@Yan28 @Cameron19 no to subban offr sheet. he's a toronto boy. he'll come over as a free agent next year.
@Dewy Keon Hogturd 'overwhelming evidence'?
Bozak is good. This season his offensive numbers were similar to Bergeron's. If you watch his defensive play he's very smart and responsible. Not bad on faceoffs. He's usually the guy that recovers the puck and starts the rush that ends up in JVR or Kessel goal. Kadri will get better this year. I think we're fine on top two C. We will miss Bolland like we missed him for most of the season. We need a checking center.
@Cameron19 We were answering them pretty well in that playoff series and throughout the shortened season. I'm glad Orr still has a place in the line-up - we will need him and he's a very good hard hitter that actually hurts the opposition.
2 weeks, 4 days ago on Maple Leafs Off Season: Assessing “Plan B”
Amazing summary/analysis of what happened. Thanks Anthony. I think we should keep the team as it is and see if Franson and Reimer can increase their value over the course of the season and trade them for a proper center or first-pairing defenceman at the deadline if we're in the running. Also, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Bernier is better than Reimer or Gardiner better than Franson. Cap space and patience are good things.
@Leaf_Maniac winter's bone - with jennifer lawrence - shows that she is actually a great actress - not just a pretty face
3 weeks, 5 days ago on Draft Day Two Wrap Up: Gunnarsson for Polak, offensive focus to Leafs’ draftees
What's with the hate-on for Bozak? He has point per game production that is very similar to Bergeron's and he wins face-offs and is defensively responsible.

@Burtonboy @leafdreamer If I were a coach without a job and I got an offer of retirement money and an opportunity to work with Carlyle and another serious coach in Toronto instead of getting a 2-year contract as the head coach of some southern team at 3rd of the money and term I'd probably go to Toronto. Just saying...
2 months, 1 week ago on Maple Leaf Hangout Ep. #29 with Down Goes Brown
I think we should get two more great coaches. Laviolette and Boucher flanking Carlyle would be nice - throw huge term and money at them and tell them to work together. Money's not an issue. Perhaps that's the plan.
@philthethrill @leafdreamer @Bruffins exactly - get another good defenceman and see what happens - instead of going all in on clarkson and improving the goalie situation which was great as is- agfain, that's on nonis
2 months, 2 weeks ago on Press Conference: Randy Carlyle staying, extended 2 years
@philthethrill @leafdreamer @Bruffins the goon-squad 4th line worked fine when he won with annaheim and his first season with leafs
@philthethrill @leafdreamer @Bruffins you don't know that for sure - maybe leiwike or nonis really wanted him. it's these things we don't know that are making our discussions here kind of irrelevant.
@philthethrill @Bruffins also, fransen had a horrible year, gardiner and reilley were sucking for most of the season, ranger looked lost for most ofhe season - just lots of individual failings - not on carlyle - mostly on players but also on Nonis for not addressing needs and going all out on clarkson
@philthethrill @Bruffins 2 very different seasons. In the first season he improved the physical game, pp and pk - made us difficult to play against; second season things fell apart but that had a lot to do with the lack of depth and bolland/bozak injuries and kids not being ready to step up... lack of 1st line centre and noone to help phaneuf on the back end. also, clarkson
@Loric76 goalies have been good so....
Are we assuming that Nonis is safe? The biggest problem this season was his off-season decisions (to buy out komi and let macarthur walk for nothing and the signing of clarkson).
@Reether @Mcost61 there - get some value for trades instead of letting people go for nothing. Nonis can't seem to be able to part with players until it's too late.
@BrandonCheema @leafdreamer becauw he's big and defensively responsiple and ontariah boy and has a cup ring/leadership intangible. in combination with laviolette (they won the cup together) - maybe even ward as a backup/mentor for bernier?
3 months ago on Morning Mashup
@BrandonCheema I wouldn't give up Bozak. Bozak - Kessel - JVR is the best 1st line in hockey. But I do want E. Staal
what would it take to get E. Staal? I think him and Laviolette would be a good thing to try.
@Jordan29 throw in Lupul as well
@Jordan29 I'm on the E. Staal / P. Laviolette bandwagon! Gardiner and Kadri for Staal and Skinner
@Great Dane @leafdreamer sure man.. I just don't think it's fair to compare a 22nd overall to 7th. Also, jury is still out on all these guys. It's not like the Leafs have a tradition of drafting big over skilled - it's just the last two drafts and it's not like there was a Crosby to be had anywhere around where they were picked.
3 months, 1 week ago on Morning Mashup: Drafting in the 8 spot
@Great Dane It actually wouldn't be a bad idea for this team to get bigger - we've been getting pushed around again. Schenn led the league in hits and he could fight. He may yet emerge as a solid stay-at home defenseman. He's playing on a playoffs-bound team.... We rushed him and expected way too much of him.
@Great Dane or you could say that we got JVR for Schenn and that Biggs was 20th pick or something while Rielly and Kadri were in the top 10.
There's no place of birth column in this chart. How are we supposed to know who's a good Ontariah boy and who isn't?
