Hah... Paul, I'm a patch and coin junkie as well. My all-time most coveted is a PJ coin handed to me by (then) TSgt Wilkinson.

Reading "Raid on the Sun" atm. Highly recommend it. The IDF perspective is.... liberating? Best word I have.

You have to understand that the largest percentage of currently serving troops are from families of warriors in the US. The vast majority of officers and enlisted come from parents who where officers or enlisted and this goes back to before the civil war.We absolutely have a warrior class. Those that don't serve don't send their kids to serve. Those that do/did, do send their kids to serve. It's a fact.My father was a Marine (major, vietnam), mom was Army (E-5, administration), Stepdad was Army (E-5 weapons).

@HonestBroker247 If you were raised and reared in a western society where the
individual is the main focus, you can not help but not to. Surrendering
your identity and putting the whole or the group before yourself is
Dude. you ain't from 'round here, are ya?
@HonestBroker247"As a free person I should be able to do what I want, when I want, and
how I want ... to rise and/or fall on my own merits. We value freedom
and all that it stands for, and at the pinnacle of freedom is the
individual. We are snowflakes. This stands in stark contrast to
the ethos and culture of the military where the individual must be
suppressed for the sake of the larger group or the team."
I disagree with your distinction. In fact, I think the free person doesn't see themself as a "snowflake" (WTF?) but as just and individual. What's wrong with that? And in the military, you're not just a cog in the wheel. The team is made up of unique individuals who all contribute, by choice, to the team. In fact, those teams are the best teams: those that *chose* to bring their individuality to the fight and meld with the group. There's no sacrifice of the "Me," but the conscious choice to mold what you bring to the fight to the group that makes the group exceptional. There is only disharmony when you view it from a very narrow lens.
We've had Ospreys over the house over the last 2 years, but my last recollection was that they were undependable and pretty much flying coffins. Now, I'll qualify that by saying I've been out of the game a few years so I'm not sure what upgrades/improvements have been made.I'm sort of in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp.
@majrod @Tango9 Good to see you too. Looks like you're up and running with a great place. I'll try to keep my tongue out of the light sockets. Really like the look & feel of it. Well done.

Hey brother! Love the site! I'll lurk.
@Jake75 @Virginstateofmind @Tango9 I wasn't going to post again but I think I need to say this:Please do not let my exit influence the way you see SOFREP. I don't want anyone to do anything rash like cancel team room memberships or flail about. You critters will be just fine without me. Jack and Brandon have built a good thing here. The contributors and authors here are amazing. Probably the finest collection of military minds and experience you will find in one place.I wish to exit gracefully, and without drama. Stay here. Learn from these guys.

@Blake Miles @hlconrad4(MAFIA) 19th Group. NM just remembered.

Behold, a pale horse, and the rider was Death, and hell followed with him.First There!
I'm reminded of a bit by the historian William McNeill:"such skill, repeated day in and day out, a dimension which the Prince of Orange and his fellows probably understood very dimly if at all. For when a group of men move their arms and leg muscles in unison for prolonged periods of time, a primitive and very powerful social bond wells up among them."The training of a green beret, followed on by the experience that green beret has in training others is the pinnacle of the fighter. These men build armies.
@hlconrad4(MAFIA) Hah... it's not specific to active or reserve or guard. I'm AF so I love poking my brethren. Only sad part is Marines are rarer in the center of the country than virgins (I said that out loud... crap). So I can't make fun of them and I'm left with you grunts.
@Blake Miles @hlconrad4(MAFIA) Is it 9th or 20th that's reserve? wife hired a 9th group guy (oh he's a handful, that's another story) Just trying to get my units straight.
@Jake75 @Tango9 If I'd put 70 lbs in my ruck I'd be along the road with all the other gophers that got run over this week.
