OH Boy, Presti believes that statistics prove that Perk is a keeper. Be very afraid.
Presti is not going to hire a coach that will bench Perkins. It would be an admission that the Perkins trade and contract were mistakes. I do not see this organization admitting mistakes.
Did any of you folks ever play on a team where one team member kept his starting job no matter how crappy he/she played? Wasn't that great for team morale?
Perk does not play harder than anyone else. In fact, he refuses to rebound on 85% of possessions. He spends time on offense keeping out of the way. Who on the Thunder does not play as hard as Perk????? The answer is nobody. This was a failed experiment in bringing in a mediocrity who happened to be on a championship team (Fisher, too). The lame thought by Thunder management was that championships are not won by talent, but by having been there before. Brooks played the cards he was dealt.
@OK_Rebel @Old Man from Oil country Nine Million of them
@Fisha Status @Old Man from Oil country OK. I'll wait until Fisha says its ok.
Is it safe for me to post now? I was run off of this board in the beginning of the season for criticizing Perk. Almost everyone said I did not get it. Perk was a great defender and great influence on the young players. Do I get amnesty?
@MostJadedGamer Rondo is not the answer. With Rondo, we have only one scorer in the starting lineup. What is he going to do? With KD doubled, he has to rely upon Perkins to score on postups or Ibaka to hit midrange jumpers. An awful idea
@OBoymuzik I think the "suggestor" was named Spolstra
Two points
(1) There is not a team in the league that would not take RW and start him at either the 1 or 2 with his current contract
(2) Perkins is not lazy or playing without effort. Is is not in physical condition to play at this level. He rests on closeouts because he thinks he can get away with it if the opponent misses. He leaks out on rebounding opportunities hoping that he could not have gotten the bound. Anyone who has played this game understands the choices you make when you are not in shape or tired, and can see those choices played out in Perkins' decisions about when to put out effort.
@FF_pickups @Old Man Game Not so much lazy, as lacking the physical conditioning to play at this level. This is not the same Perkins that played for Boston
Forget benching Perkins to start the game. I will never happen. Perk is the equivalent of the coach's son in Little League. He plays no matter what.
OKC should win this series. But, I would really like to see Scott tell Perkins to roll hard to the basket after the high screens. Too many times, Perk does not move after the screen and double teams become effective. Also, Perk would then be in position to get a few offensive rebounds, which he never gets now.
Stop blaming Scott. He was given a team built by Presti on the character of Perkins and Fisher. You heard it all. They won rings. They are great leaders. They will train the young guys. Now, when the scheme is exposed as weak, you folks want the coach to ignore management's plan for a championship and bench the leaders he has been saddled with. Wrong target!
@areayewhy What can be more fruitless than more arguments about Perkins' effectiveness? Those who believe in "toughness" will never back down. Those who believe is "stats" will never accept his value. Why rehash the same comments posted over the last several months. For what it is worth, In my opinion, from watching Perkins in replays on DVD, slow mo, on many possessions, he is a grossly overrated defender and a liability on offense. But, Scott Brooks, Presti, and dozens of posters disagree. So, I thought it appropriate to bring out the entertainment value of Kendrick Perkins, which is the one part of his game that is beyond reasonable dispute.
Lay off Perkins - He's the most interesting player in the game today. Who is more entertaining? The excitement when Perk posts up is beyond description. The anticipation of the reaction to each foul call, or even each out-of-bounds call. His calling for the ball while Westbrook pretends not to see him, then Perk's reaction. This is all great drama that cannot be replaced. Who cares if he gets only two rebounds every half hour?
@Lokedogg Didn't we just get burned by trading for "attitude" and "intensity" instead of what the acquisition could do on the Court? And, KG won't come cheap.
@dream catcher You are correct. It's not selfishness, it's just bad decisions. But, that is not the biggest problem we have by far. Rebounding, interior defense, etc.
@dream catcher Not so sure I would put it on "selfishness." It's more lack of confidence in somebody else having a better chance then he has of scoring. There's a difference. I don't see RW as a stat hog.
