@CanuckUKinToronto @darthNihilus @Mind Bomb @Burtonboy aaahhhh the ballard years........but they still had a couple good playoff runs in the 80's with rick vaive and stumpy Thomas...at least they were fun to watch...losing or winning games 7-6......
@CanuckUKinToronto @hoolihan I hope they don't give up on this guy just cause he doesn't fit Carlyle's mold. if they do they better get something great in return.
@mbails agree. I havnt like the way bernier came in and was unofficially treated like the number 1 with a sense of entitlement when all he had accomplished was be a steady backup to jonathan quick while reamer had carried the team to the playoffs. he should have been accorded more respect. the other players can see this and might resent things on reimer's behalf..
@Great Dane @shawzy9 agree 100 percent
@shawzy9 idon't hate Carlyle and you're right the players play the game not the coaches. but. if the players don't want to play for a coach...it's shit the bed time...we all know that for whatever reason, if it's right or wrong, you cant get rid of 20 players....so the only alternative is axe the coach...this is becoming too eerily like that eighteen wheeler goingoff the cliff....
I was listening to don cherry the other day on sportsnet and he was saying how the Anaheim ducks were saying that they are having so much fun playing for bruce boudreau. that he isn't a great tactition of the game but he just lets them play to their strengths and they have thrived and love the guy and would go through a wall for him. of course who did he replace? .....I know he has his shelf life too and players might tune him out in a year or two.....but Carlyle hasn't changed much as a coach since those Anaheim days and still favors the tough big guys over the skilled guys and shortens his bench too much...and he has lost the room very quickly ( if he ever had the room to begin with?)
@mbails I mean reimer
@mbails he can go fuck himself even if they pull out a victory....because the only reason they will win is reamer or bernier stand on their heads ......
@LeafFan15 absolutely noticed that too in the hbo series and not only him.....as I said before ...too many fbombs and no substance or inspiration to his dressing room speeches or tirades....I don't know if it was on the hbo series or on tsn but I saw one instance where Carlyle had that whiteboard behind the bench and drawing diagrams like a mad professor and nobody was listenin and maybe only 2 guys were looking at it dazed and confused..wtf???!!!
@Burtonboy @Flirting_With_Disaster @mikeintokyo if you think about it you can trace leafs terrible nosedive to the game in Vancouver when bolland got severely injured....you could feel the air sucked right out of everything....but a lot of teams have gone through bad injuries and continued winning(Pittsburgh,st.louis etc...) because the players step up and work even harder to back each other up and that comes down to the coaching and belief in their system. you just don't see that with the leafs. only 2 regulation wins in the past 24 games? goodness let' have another voice behind this bench.
@Flirting_With_Disaster @mikeintokyo good point and Clarkson was the most sought after FA and bolland was a good trade....but regardless his roster decisions and the way he has handled reamer and it is plain to see they are not playing for this coaching staff....I think they played for each other in the winter classic because they were on a world stage so to speak....but way too many games where they just look disinterested.......
james mirtle's piece in the Globe and Mail says it all. Carlyle's influence on this team made us lose skilled and hard working guys like grabovski,macarthur and liles and they were replaced by sluggos Clarkson, gleason, and some marlies. from the beginning of the year most of the leafs wins were because of the goaltending...not Carlyle's so-called system. and it was irritating during the hbo series to hear Carlyle say "that's it boys that's what happens when we play our system..etc.." you could see it on their faces like "duh? what system? we got great goaltending man..." and if you wanna go way back...I still pin the playoff collapse to the bruins on Carlyle's inability to read the flow of the game and call a time-out. and going back to the hbo 24/7...if I were a player I would be pretty much zoning him out since every second word out of his mouth were f-bombs. I have no problem with the fbomb I oftenuse it myself but geez couldn't he come up with something more inspiring...I wouldn't go through a wall for that guy. just my opinion.
@lukethenuke @mikeintokyo it hurts a lot ....maybe he should start driving to games in a big ass car and stop pretending that he's just like one of us ....the bastard rubbing it in...look I sit on the subway and im making 100 times you and your entire family will ever earn in a lifetime...wrong message....

@ingy56 @mikeintokyo I was thinking about recent mere humans not THE CLARK!!!!!!
which "clark" wouldyoulike on the leafs now? Clarke macarthur or david Clarkson?
i love the leafs and have so since I saw that all out brawl in the 1969 (68?) playoffs against bobby orr's bruins where forbes kennedy fought with everybody save the Zamboni driver and even though they were losing like 7or 8 to zero there was a fight to the underdog.....loved them evrer since.....last year's team had a bite or toughness.....this year's team there is something missing.....they are too easy to play against.....they need to get back to kicking some ass.....get the penaltykilling going so they aren't afraid to take penalties.......and even though I like Carlyle especially as an original leafs draft pick back in the day....maybe the players have tuned him out...shit ...I watched the hbo series and too many fbombs coming from his mouth....shit i would tune that out in a hurry if I were a player.......
i like Carlyle....remember him coming into the league as a rookie and playing on that 1978 leafs team that upset the islanders and then his subsequent trade to the penguins for dave burrows ( what a lousy trade as Carlyle went on to be a Norris trophy winner and burrows just never seemed to get comfortable as a leaf). still...it appears that the players have tuned him out...just witness all the f-bombs directed their way on the hbo series...shit I would tune that out in a hurry....there is supposed to be a system in place and he always emphasizes that after a win during the hbo series....but the only reason they won wasn't the system but the great goalkeeping and the players know that and you can tell from the hbo series that they are left in quizzical looks...system???........anyhow...... as I said I like Carlyle but it doesn't seem like theplayers are tuning his f...ing this f...ing that out....a new voice? remember after a 6 and 1 start they are 15 17 and 5...not good enough for the playoffs

true he couldn't predict the injuries or that Clarkson would be abust(so far)
this a pen
many people are criticizing the coaching and the players etc...but nobody has mentioned that the general manager david nonis has made quite a few mistakes with his personnel decision making. he bought out grabovski( currently3d in Washington scoring with26 points) and let macarthur go ( currently 4th in Ottawa scoring with 25 points) so he could sign Clarkson( 6points, a 10game suspension and another one looming) and bozak ( injuries up the wazoo and lessthan 10points) and albeit a good trade for bolland but (a serious injury and unknown return date and 10 points ). if kessel or van reimsdyk go down with injuries......say sayonara to any hope of a playoff spot.......there is no secondary scoring on this team and although Raymond has been playing well, let's face it he is soft...actually the whole team is soft this year....no hitting opponents like last year's team......loved orr and mclarenlast year but this year they are mere token warriors....the game is changing .....do you need two enforcers on a team?.....anyhow..let's hold nonis accountable too....and don't forget that Carlyle was not his hire but burke's.....soooo???????justsaying......
