Hi John! I hope for a better season then last and no doubt,
Coach Pinkle has improved the state of Missouri football from its ultimate
depths of despair. That said, chances seem at least above average for an
unimpressive win total and I think you neglected one face saving option for
Pinkle, retirement, which would have a number of pluses for him and the
University moving forward. We’ll see how the season plays out and as a Missouri
Alum, I’m hoping for the best, but realistic.

Great write up. If one steps back and removes specific names (reporters and institutions) to view this piece for its substance, its critical thinking component strongly comes through. Articles such as this is why I come to Mr Sec on a daily basis.

Well, have to give her an "A" for team enthusiasm but I for one am quite pleased to see "We Are Mizzou" eclipsed. ;^)

@MIZ ZOU FAN @John at MrSEC Au contraire mon frere!! In fact, Mr. Richardson was NOT speaking for the team as witnessed by this datapoint:
where Mr. Richardson earned a "vacation" based on those comments. This means "NO, those comments do NOT represent the Missouri program viewpoint."
I agree with you about checking that "nonsense", totally, though you seam to be dishing out a little of your own. He made a mistake of running his mouth though in all honesty, there are dramatically worse offenses than he's guilty of. Yes, he may get some attention from opposing teams but with his 300lb size and talent, I imagine he'll be delivering some as well.

@John at MrSEC
Yes, I fully acknowledge this was/is an opinion piece and subject to that. My response was simply that as well, my opinion based on yours.
We’re in total agreement with our mutual response to “smack talk” and I loathe it since I think it to be the purview of the weak minded or at best, incredibly poor momentary judgment. Also, young men make mistakes (as well as old) and I hope Mr. Richardson learns from this. I also hope he comes out and has his best year ever since we need his best along with every other Missouri team member to have a quality SEC inaugural year.
Honestly, I didn’t put forth the notion of who you should be rooting for since I respect individual decision making. My concern in this case was your shift of position based on a single individuals (not programs) mouthing not reflective of general program conduct from everyone associated with it. But now that you ask “why would you care who I pull for on Saturday anyway?”, after thought, I still think it’s your business but in the case of Missouri, I’ve appreciated all of your thoughts during the realignment discussion up to Missouri becoming a fully fledged SEC member. The majority of the time I’ve found your site content interesting, informative and thoughtful and for a program I love to have your support, of course I’d like that and hope you swing back around for this weekend’s game since we’re still the underdog.
Thanks for your response and quality site.
Alrighty, Mr. “Fuddy-Duddy”. I’m not a fan of “smack talk” since I think it has the substance of a rice cake but in the case of Missouri, as you’ve alluded to “….certainly not the first or last time a player will pop off and say something goofy in the press”, this can happen with any program and I think it’s been dealt with by the coaching staff as it should have been. You didn’t hear or read about anyone related to the program cheering or voicing agreement to those comments and you won’t. Mr. Pennington, overall I enjoy reading your site but to suddenly wish a loss on a program based on one individual’s comments, which is NOT reflective of the program, well with all due respect (and I am admittedly biased), that seems a little fickle to me.
This game is special and HUGE to Missouri for so many reasons which are far beyond and above one individual and his poorly chosen comments. I think the energy could not only meet but possibly surpass the 2007 kU game.
Let’s go Tigers!!!!!
@mizzoujack1 Hmm. Well, ok. It appears the University of Missouri Head Coach wasn't overly impressed with those individual comments either, to the point of action:
After re-reading my comments, if any clarity was needed, my criticism was clearly aimed at an individual’s poorly thought out comments and an emphasis on athletic performance over hyperbole, not towards the team whatsoever.
Let’s hope this feeling of “disrespect”, that Mizzou can’t compete in the SEC, is turned into a positive motivator (which it should be!) for the team to embody the spirit of “Show Me” on the field because no matter what is said, that’s the ultimate gauge. I can’t wait to see this game in person and I think Missouri can win this game as well as be competitive (and consistently win) in the SEC. M-I-Z!!!!!!
2 years ago on Mizzou's Richardson Takes Some Shots At UGA And Their "Old Man" Style Of Play
Imbecilic. Look, Mr. 5 Star has a history of letting his mouth function before his brain. If I were him, I’d be dramatically more focused on improving his 3 Star athletic performances and shifting it more towards that 5 star ranking. His moving mouth is in no way, shape or form reflective of the typical (rational) Missouri fan attitude and frankly as a Missouri Alum, it’s embarrassing to be associated with such thoughtless hyperbole. I want to see all “talk” on the football field with measured performance.
Are these numbers with or without Missouri and Texas A&M? I assume without sine they're not official SEC conference members yet. Assuming that's the case, those numbers will only go up, a good thing for the SEC and their television “look in” negotiations.

LOL!!! I literally burst out laughing at this! Glad to see you have a sense of humor and I don't see our back and forth as arguing at all. I see it as just a couple of people who obviously have enough time to exchange on something this irrelevant in the scheme of things and that must mean life isn’t so bad. I think it's about time to pour a bourbon and fire up a Bolivar Belicoso Fino. Take care.
2 years, 7 months ago on Hogs' Anderson Says He's Still Pro-Mizzou
I do question Coach Anderson's last year and (severe lack of) recruiting efforts which baffles even the most objective bystander. Also, looking at the series of events, quotes and actions in the wake of his departure, I know of no reasonable or rational person who would say that was a shining example of professionalism by any standard. All that said, his pluses were far better than those two examples. He did come into a bad situation and made things markedly better. Also, I think he deserves a ton of credit with the players he brought in who have shown tremendous character and are outstanding representatives for Mizzou. On a speculative note, while I think it was initially adaptive to the players and style they were accustomed to, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Haith and his staff take an element of Coach Anderson's “Fastest 40 Minutes” since it clearly has its time and place. I wish Coach Anderson the best until his team plays Mizzou.
With all due respect, those are big words to you? I see. Personally I think the formula you apparently espouse "powerful legacy + decent coach=win big" is a bit simplistic but to each their own. This season, that formula certainly hasn't paid dividends on the road for them though I'm sure that will certainly improve since there aren't many options below 0%. That said, my original point stands, the oddity of one being supportive while simultaneously belittling his record. Honestly I think Coach Anderson is a good coach and he'll do fine there. He definitely helped the Mizzou program when it needed it and moved on to his "home" which I don't fault him for.
Your “brilliant” sarcasm withstanding, I think you unwittingly denigrate the coach your proffering support for since Coach Anderson didn't do his part bringing a Final Four banner at Mizzou. Perhaps it will be different with him at Arkansas. No matter what anyone thinks, time will tell.
@John at MrSEC Mr. Pennington, outside of effort and school spirit, the merit list for this video is short. Since we're one of the new kids on the block, I guess the saying goes "You never get a second chance to make a first impression" and this video could be that first chance for some. Your broadcasting it expands that potential a bit. Thank you for all of your efforts and I enjoy reading your site immensely.
2 years, 7 months ago on Mizzou Students Welcome Selves To The SEC In Embarrassing Fashion
I see this video two different ways. On one hand I think the position of most rational Missouri fans is we’re grounded realist who recognize what a tremendous honor, privilege and opportunity for us to ask and be accepted to join the SEC. We understand the value of being understated, gracious, humble and genuinely appreciative for our new conference family. We also understand the need to earn our place in the SEC through measured accomplishments. This video and it’s youthfully over exuberant “we’re bustin’ in” doesn’t speak to those values or accurately reflect the background of Missouri’s fortunate circumstance joining the SEC in any way shape or form. Some could argue from that point of view, it’s in poor taste and not the face most Missouri fans want associated with them.
On the other hand and while I don’t like the video at all, if you consider all of the work and dedication that clearly went into making it and considering they’re students, I respect their effort and attempt to promote their University which clearly demonstrates their passion. Isn’t that level of school passion a good thing? How many students do you know who go to this creatively expressive level and make it happen?? Would I like to see it done more so with those values I express above and better reflective of the University and general fan base? Absolutely!! But these are still developing students and I think through that vantage point, I can cut them some slack.
