Lots of comments about changing personnel...to me it's about committing to different approaches...it's about speed of entry into the attack zone and quicker decisions. Sometimes bad attacking in soccer is when a team tries to walk the ball into the goal...same can be said here...there's too much side to side with no shots....have a plan and execute. Show 2 looks....1) I feel you have to get pucks at Fleury's feet and look for rebounds. This 1-3-1 is allowing Pittsburgh (and last series Philly) to anticipate the cross ice pass...and that to me is making us also too stationary in our attack. Movement without the puck is key, get pucks to the net and get to space and anticipate rebounds...2) once Pens shift to that, fake and hit the open points...and get traffic in front. We seem able to get Pittsburgh's D running around in their own end 5 on 5...the key is to get them gassed, not knowing of what's coming. Even if your PP doesn't score goals, your goal should be to inflict as much pressure and pain (forcing them to block shots) as possible.

No way...what's the justification that he does the little things (3) 20 goal seasons and 0.56 pts per game doesn't make you a $6M man...that Toronto gave Clarkson funny money doesn't make us suckers.

Remember what we learned from the Drury deal....and don't do it again. We haven't been the best at spending on big contracts...more than just a few terrifyingly bad examples. See what he'll fetch us... the only time to get real quality in terms of leverage is now...every other GM knows we're over this barrel...we would get more for him now than in a month...plus he's healthy at the moment.
We have 10 players under contract for next year and as BrendyJohnson pointed out, they will have $29M to sign a bunch of players. If Sather can get a Chris Stewart or a Cam Atkinson plus a pick, you have to consider making that deal. Before a compliance buyout on Richards, they'd have to feel good about getting Paul Stastny this summer...but let's face it, it's a negotiation and Callahan's agent doesn't give a rats behind about those numbers crippling our cap for many years to come....we can do better than Cally or Richards...As good as the roll they are on, "this team" won't win a Cup...can't beat Pittsburgh, or a Chicago or Boston and they probably can't beat Tampa when Stamkos comes back...so the need is to manage the cap and make moves that create flexibility and sign key pieces that can be part of a Cup worthy team...and that means my priority is Kreider, Zucc, and yes, Stralman and Pouliot ... Gauge the market on Girardi and Cally...but if I were a betting man, I'd say only one of them comes back...and the Girardi camp aren't going to talk their way out of New York....Callahan better talk to the agent because playing hardball is going to get your client a ticket out of town.
I was driving to work and heard Boomer talking about Kevin Klein as someone that he had heard the Rangers were looking at, interested in, and probably going to be on the team...that was about 3 weeks ago. I thought DZ was going to stay on the trajectory...bought the guys jersey...but another Sanguinetti or Matt Gilroy type. Hoping that Klein will be a Jay Wells type 5-6 slotted D-man. Really wish Sauer could be fit to play again...that's what we really need on the pairing....a banger.

Thankfully a decent effort by Hank to survive the onslaught. PP scores 3 times, and 2 good road periods are good enough for 2 pts. After 40 games, no one would have had Zucc as our leading scorer...give him credit, more so than how badly Richards, Stepan and yes...Mr. Nash have been given the amount of minutes and PP time they command. Wish they were signed to $1.1M contracts like Zucc...maybe they'd have more drive and ambition.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...a terrible team effort against the Islanders at home...sorry gang, sometimes you have to hit absolute rock bottom before recovery begins...we've hit it. Why are we playing Lundqvist 8 games in a row? Wow man...I thought Christmas was right around the corner...nope it must be Easter...because Hank just laid the biggest egg on Broadway. I can't even classify this as a terrible loss to the lowly Islanders because we are the lowly Rangers. I'd rather watch Glee...and I hate Glee.

In a nutshell...over the past couple of years...that was a game we'd win...take the two points....move on. Middle of the pack teams don't typically do that...trends about trailing entering 3rd period....record when scoring the first goal of the game...taking a lead into the 3rd period. New stat for me...special teams quotient....our PK has been very good....our PP just isn't getting it done and no team with a 17% success rate on the PP wins...or gets out of the middle of the pack...which is where we are. We've played exactly like a team one game under .500....yet we seem surprised. How about this stat..."big salary choke quotient"...I saw $22M in 3 guys who have played well beneath their paycheck...Nash, Richards and Hank. Think about it...we're one game under with them...we'd be no worse than one game under without them too.

Right now #68 in Newark looks like the 29 yr old power forward...not #61 on Broadway. Nash looks lost and has no idea where to be at times...reminds me of watching a 6 yr old playing soccer ....he doesn't know where to be without the puck...doesn't know what to do with it. 5 on 5 he seems to have no room...4 on 3 and he doesn't shoot. Many comments that there's no one taking shots on the power play...AV read them the riot act on missing the net...so now they don't shoot at all. Not that hard gang, but for whatever reason this team is still playing too much trying not to make mistakes...stop gripping the driver too tight...relax the hands, see the shot...stop thinking about it....just rip it. Too bad no one had headphones on the NBC booth during the shoutout...5 hole was wide open on Fleury...nobody went for it...but Sutter sure found it on Lundqvist. Again, stop thinking too hard...the game is right there in front of you...pucks to the net, maniacal forecheck, no neutral zone turnovers, take away shooting lanes, make the other team pay for taking penalties.
Evander Kane is the type of player we need...grit, energy, willing to pay the price or stick up for a teammate....literally...just ask that puke Matt Cooke. It would take Stepan and another piece...maybe a JT Miller...especially to make the cap numbers work. DZ's value has fallen...we won't get anything of value back at this point...Dustin Brown's another guy who intrigues me...and maybe there's something we can put together...maybe Richards and eat some of that contract...both need a change of scenery...who knows. Another idea is ring up the Senators...what would it take to pry Chris Neil away? Maybe expand to take on Michalek....I would swap Stepan and Hags for that.

The Rangers have become the Columbus Blue Jackets - East. Columbus was a mediocre run of the pack team...never seen as contender...and what player couldn't shine his own star without the mighty pressure of Broadway. Those of us who can remember 1994...Keenan got rid of Turcotte, James Patrick for some sandpaper in Larmer...he got Neil to get rid of Amonte for more sandpaper in Matteau and Noonan, and Gartner for woodchipper in Glenn Anderson...while long term some of those moves didn't make sense, the Rangers were not going to win a cup without any sandpaper. I would kill to get Prusty back here...or one or two players of his quality. Pyatt, Boyle, Pouliot...nice guys but don't hit...don't score...show them the door. DZ and Moore...show them the door. We need a bunch of toughness...not bigness...and be prepared to make someone pay if they take a run at Stepan, Nash, Richy, etc. Kreider shouldn't be the one doing that, but I'm glad to see him at least willing to take some of this on.
