f5alcon Understood. I'm probably not recognized much outside Mav circles, but I've been cited by M Stein in articles on cap questions at times, and you'll find my name several times in the appendix of Coon's
FAQ (both 1999 and 2005 editions).
1 year, 10 months ago on Would Kevin Durant consider restructuring his contract?
f5alcon The copy I have is about 600 pages (marked up working version from the negotiations) and would take substantial work to make online-ready. Don't think i would ruffle feathers if I put it in print, but it's simply more work than it would be worth to us to do. I suspect any number of outlets have the CBA by now and could publish it if they wished but if you're interested, I'm confident the players' union will eventually have the polished version available to the public.
I do answer questions at our forum on the CBA's new rules, if you have any you can look me up there until the bible itself is in print. The link is http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=268&f=2144 and while we're a Mavs-focused site, we like the Thunder and their young talent.
f5alcon The size of the contract is irrelevant. What ESPN, Royce, and many others failed to see is that when the NBA talks about a "renegotiation" it is always talking about a RAISE. Always.
n the new CBA, they provided the following definition(s) in Article I - “Renegotiation,” “renegotiate,” or “renegotiated” means Contract amendment that provides for an increase in Salary and/or Unlikely Bonuses."
And in the section regarding renegotiations and extensions, they wrote this: "In no event shall a Team and player negotiate a decrease in Salary or in any Incentive Compensation for any Salary Cap Year covered by a Player Contract."
We ran it by the Mavs' front office who confirmed that in the NBA there is no ability to ever renegotiate any salary downward. Ever. Quote provided.
f5alconDavidLord Nope, there is no such rule. I have the new CBA, and Royce is simply mistaken. I made the discovery on reading the CBA about 3 weeks ago, it was confirmed by the NBA and put into print, but obviously not everyone has the word yet. http://mavericks.scout.com/2/1145100.html
Sorry but the rule you are talking about doesn't even exist. The CBA (in 2005 and again in 2011) says a player CANNOT renegotiate existing salary downwards under any circumstances.
