@cb1 Excuse me, I meant dman takes longer to develop.

@cb1 I agree, but you won't know until you give him a chance. It's not like Allen or Johnson are top four dmen or they'd already be skating with the Rangers. Besides neither Allen or Johnson are positives in the +/- column. McIlrath is sitting at 0. Yes he struggled in the preseason, so did Kreider. Now look at him. Yes forward takes longer to develop, but that's not the point. McIlrath possesses what this team needs and the organization is going to need him to be a part of their future. With the injury to Staal this is a perfect chance to see if he's ready. If not send him back down. Just like with Kreider, Miller, or Fast. Totally normal process.
@Kevin DeLury Kevin, can't agree more. Sather isn't or never was going to be able to move Del Zotto for a top four dman. McIlrath's league leading penalty minutes and physical presence is exactly what this team needs. He's going to make rookie mistakes and isn't going to be this team's knight in shining armor, but I'm pretty sure he'll strike some fear into teams looking to have their way with our guys.
@Say my Name It's a start. The Rangers aren't going to be the Bruins and I don't think anyone is ignorant enough to think one guy fixes all of this team's issues, but let's face it this is our team and these are the guys we have. Honestly, I think we have more quality pieces in place than

@KreiderisTheChosenOne @RangersTown Doesn't address lack of toughness. We need a guy besides Dorsett that can get physical with teams. I'm not looking for a top four dman to replace Staal as we don't have one in this organization right now even if Staal wasn't at his best. This team needs some bite and they need to be harder to play against. I want size and I want grit to balance out the backend.
If the worst is true and Staal has suffered another concussion I think it's time the Rangers call up McIlrath. That gives us three right handed shots on defense and most importantly one hell of a tough guy. He currently leads the AHL in penalty minutes with 115 and could be our version of Radko Gudas from Tampa Bay, albeit a much bigger version. I don't think this organization needs to go out and make a trade just yet. They're looking for a top four defenseman for MDZ and they're not going to get that right now. Give the rookie a shot and let Del Zotto, Falk, and Moore rotate on the left side in the bottom four.
