@mintgecko @jnyfiveIf Richards is going to be bought out in the summer then it makes sense to re-sign Cally and Giradi even if they overpay a little. There will be a lot of cap space available with it going up next season and with Richards bought out. You bring up miller to Center the 3rd line, sign Brassard to be the 2C, and Stepan is the 1C. I would also add another goal scorer winger as well.
6 months ago on Rangers Gathering Intel on Stewart
@JoeNYR Cally should of at least gotten an "A" Brown's season is beyond awful this year 16 points in 55 games, Cally has 20 points in 38 games.
@mintgecko Odds are both will be re-signed.
@mprestop AV has not put him on the PP, and all players cash in on points in the PP, he has 7 points in the last 13 games which is not bad, but not Cally-like. It's interesting because his 4 goals on the PP gives him the best on the team in Power Play goal average per game. Last game he was excellent on the PK, blocking some shots, and not allowing the Islanders to get set up.
@rjonyr87 That is most likely going to happen, especially after hearing they offered 5.7 for Giradi. Cally should be able to get 5.5 to 6 million for 5 or 6 years. But until then the rumors galore is going to continue
@EHBIGAPPLE@mmars79@Bring back Langdon I think Cally fits in well with AV's system, AV has trusted Cally in those defensive and offensive last min or two min situations. I've also seen him make more plays and create more offense. Cally has been back for 14 games now, it took Nash about 20+ to really get going. His offense is average right now but he is a couple of multi-point games from getting back on track to a good PPG average. Also, Cally has not been on the PP to cash in on those points, which had nothing to do with his play.
6 months ago on Dorsett On Schedule to Return After Olympics
@Bring back LangdonHmmm, looking at that chart for Cally he would fall towards the bottom of that list of 6 million cap hitters, but would not be the last player on that list. You are looking at this season alone, please don't, this is not an indication of what he can do moving forward while still having 4 or 5 good seasons in him. Yeah he is on a 45 or so point pace this season, but in the last 3 seasons he has been on a 50+ point pace. You also put his defensive part of this game like killing penalties, last night he was excellent on the PK did not even give the islanders a chance to set up, plus everything else on the ice he does, and it adds his value, but take away for the risk of injury and thats why Cally should get around 5.5 Million for maybe at most 6 years. If they can come to an agreement to knock a year off, and about 500k he will be re-signed, imho.
@Bring back Langdon@mmars79 That's what negotiations are about, he has to come up with his highest bid, and then work from there. It just seems the media is blowing this thing up where the Rangers don't even want to negotiate, and thats BS. It seems the number is going to be between 30 mil to 35 mil to get Cally signed.
6 months ago on Rangers Make Two Offers to Girardi; Interested in McGinn
5.7 Million for Giradi? Are you serious? That is what they offered? This is mind boggling. Callahan is looking for 6 million and they are offering 5.7 to Giradi? WTF? How can they not be close with Cally? Callahan is a defense shut down top 6- forward that can log in top mins, right below a defense-man ice-time and more than a forward ice-time, he has the potential to score 20 to 25 goals in a season, and is one of the better players on the PK and PP. This season is not an indication of him moving forward, it's been an unfair assessment. He has been in the top 3 in scoring on this team for many seasons, and once he gets his opportunities he will be putting those numbers up again. I will be even more pissed at this organization if Giradi signs for 5.7 Million and they let Cally go for a 300k difference. F that!
@fs2020@mmars79Between injuries and all this trade and negotiations going through his head, and being starved points from not being on the PP. It's remarkable he still has 20 points this season in 37 games. We are all human and if I thought a team did not think I was worth what I thought, I'd be a mess on the ice. I betcha once he signs he is going to be his old self , and I think that is what the Rangers are thinking also. He is trying to do too much on the ice, and that usually is a result of having a lot of shit on your mind.
@johnAMIRANTESrugCarcillo, Moore and Boyle have all been playing very well the last few games and even have points to show for it as well.
@fs2020Richards and Cally have better chemistry but they did score a goal that line on Sunday with Cally getting a primary assist. They also came very close last night, just having bad bounces and bad luck.
This whole Callahan thing is driving me crazy. Someone has to give here. Give Cally 5 or 6 years at 5 to 5.5 Million. Don't know why Cally would not take that, and the Rangers would not agree to something like that. I don't judge him on this season which has been an off season for him. Regardless Cally is going to make more money if he stays with the Rangers or goes into the free market. If he wants to stay like he claims then he has to bend.
@NYRBlueBlog@mmars79 I feel a deal can get done, because I truly feel Cally wants to stay here and will take less money.
6 months ago on Richards Misses Practice, Will Play Tonight; Cally Wants to Remain a Ranger
@Herman_NYRBlog@genetics73 I can't compare Jeter to Callahan obviously but it kinda feels like when Cashman was giving him a hard time signing him to a 3 year, 4th year option deal coming out of a .270 BA season. Callahan has done a lot for this organization has become one of the faces, so that has to count for something.
Is it possible for him to take 5 years with a player option 6th year? If he has a great season in the 5th year then he can get a possible 2 year extension.
@Herman_NYRBlog@genetics73 I would like to know what Sather's offer was.
@Scott_from_Jersey@mmars79 I think 5 years is not too risky, when under a new coach who does not preach blocking every shot. Most of his injuries have been from blocking shots, and spraining his knee was a fluke this season. That 2nd injury really set him back in his offense, and I feel it's just bad luck with little chance of happening again. I also don't know how he can concentrate on the ice with all these talks, I'd be going out of my mind right now.
He is one of my favorite players also, and felt he would be a Ranger for life, so this is making it very difficult these conversations.
@Bring back Langdon@johnAMIRANTESrugA lot of people have said Cally has a lot of pride, and pride being a NYR, and a captain of this team. If he wants to stay he is going to have to come back down to reality. He deserves a raise and an extension but within reason.
@Kevin DeLury@genetics73 Kevin, he deserves a raise and an extension, 6 million is way too much but who says he won't take say 5 million or 5.5 million to stay. 25 mil to 30 mil on the table is a fair deal, imo.
This is negotiations, it's going to happen all these rumors. I truly believe he wants to be a Ranger but he also wants to make money he feels is due. They should hopefully come to a deal where both parties are happy. 5 years around 5.5 million should work.
@rjonyr87Exactly, you aim high but are willing to come down to a certain degree. they are in on going talks and they should get closer to a deal soon.
6 months ago on Callahan/Girardi Seeking 7-Year Contracts as Sather Gauges Interest
@KreiderisTheChosenOne@rjonyr87 a 3rd liner? So yeah Richards is a 3rd line center, lol ok, Callahan is not a 3rd liner, never was.
I think Sather will get them signed, this is all blown out of proportion by the media to get a story going and to get people to read their columns. Cally's agent is optimistic a deal can get done, and a player is going to start high it does not mean they will walk if they don't get that. I think 5 years @ 5.5 Million should be fair for everyone.
@sportsjourn A lot of Zuccs points this season have come on the PP, believe it or not he has 7 points in his last 12 games. Which is very good, but not top line production.
6 months ago on Rangers Talk Extension With Zuccarello & Callahan
@Bring back Langdon@mmars79How am I on crack? Brown is making 6 million and for 8 years, never would suggest that for Cally. Getting really tired of some of you fans turning your back on one of the hearts and souls of this team. I hope there is news soon whether an extension or trade so I can stop reading these ridiculous comments about him being traded or not worth re-signing.
@mlsranger It's certainly a good sign they are in on going talks and his agent feels they can get a deal done. Cally has a lot of pride of being a NYR captain, and his family is in NY, but wants to win a cup as well, so Buffalo might not be the place for him as some people have been claiming. I think a deal gets done soon, and all these trade speculations and talks will be over with, which thank goodness, because they are getting really annoying now. I agree with Kevin to a certain degree, I think 5 years they can push a deal which will be the compromise. 4 years is not enough, imo. Obviously he knows he can't get more than 7, because of what Lundqvist got, so if he asks for 6, they will likely compromise to 5 years.
@johnAMIRANTESrug I can name at least 5 players who are making around 5 million or 6 million that are not better or worth more than Callahan. 2 of them are on the Devils.
@rangermomApparently Brooks and Leonard are totally off from eachother since Brooks said no talks are being made, where as Cally's agent says there is on going talks and they are optimistic that they can get a deal done. so I'm confused, but would take the word of Cally's agent over Brooks. No reason for Cally's agent to say anything if they are not close.
Callahan has had 3 solid seasons prior to this one, and is not too bad this season even with the injuries. He can still hit hard, and had been playing very well since being back from his injury.
I am glad they are getting close with Cally and hopefully a deal will happen before the Olympic break. I think Cally should get 5 years at around 5 million a year.
Zucc certainly deserves an extension but be careful one good season is not a telling tale of the future.
Anyway had a feeling these guys would be back next season, this news makes those odds even better.
I don't understand why anyone should be available when the Rangers are
playing very well and are in a playoff spot. You wait to the summer when
there is more time to sign these guys rather than risk a roster change and it backfires. Del Zotto is a different case,
since he was not fitting into the new system and was constantly
criticized by AV. I can't think of anyone on this team that is
struggling now or playing bad that they should be moved. Everyone has
been playing well.
6 months ago on Rangers Still Not Making Girardi Available
@MrRanger94 LOL 4th line Callahan? Callahan is in the top 6 forward production this season, after missing a bunch of games and being hurt, so yeah he is a 4th liner. lol.
Good to see Cally still hitting hard and also getting a point on Hags goal yesterday.
6 months ago on Rangers Set Physical Tone vs. Devils
@madsportsnyc@TheNYRBlog He had a primary assist on Hags goal, touching up the puck and getting it open for Hags while checking a Devil. As per his offense, considering his injuries and him not being on the PP it's been pretty solid coming back. He needs to get back on the PP, AV has not taken him off because he was not playing well, he got hurt, PP was clicking so did not want to change anything. Right now the PP has gotten a little stale, 1 for 22 chances (Excluding the 5 on 3's). I'd rather have Cally on that Pouliot. Cally can crash the net, but also fore-check and play the points if needed.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne You are comparing Kreider to Tavares or Kane? Wow. Sorry one solid season does not put him in the same boat as those guys.
6 months, 1 week ago on RUMOR: Rangers Interested In Winnipeg Forwards
Kreider , Del Zotto, and Boyle for Ladd and Kane. Kane would do wonders playing with Callahan, they have similar games, and Cally can teach him a lot.
Cally is going to get a few more offers from the Rangers before they deal him out.
@JoeyKocurI agree with these other guys, he has been playing like his old self since being back, he had no points last night but 7 hits which is his game. You really want this team to be worse than it is?
6 months, 1 week ago on Islanders 5, Rangers 3
@Say my Name
You are giving him an unfair assessment, even with his injuries he has been playing well this season. Rangers are not going to risk losing their heart and soul player when he can turn it on another team. Do me a favor, take your colored glasses and shove it up your @ss because last night was an example of him getting back on his game, and he's been strong since coming back.
6 months, 1 week ago on Rangers Scouting, Being Scouted
It's more than just one game since he's been back, he has 6 points in his last 9 games, 2 big clutch goals in his last 6 games. I don't think he should get 6 million either, but he will certainly try and ask for it. That is what negotiations are about, in the end, he will likely end up with 5 or 6 years between 5 and 5.5 Million a year. That is not a risky contract to pay for someone still putting up strong games.
@ATCRyan Hopefully the negative Callahan comments will stop for awhile after last nights SH goal.
Good article, Pouliot has certainly raised his game, and thats what we needed from the secondary scoring. I disagree that the Brassard line has been the biggest offensive threat. Certainly on the PP, but not 5 on 5. Although most teams with a decent PP are an offensive threat when they are on it, lol.
6 months, 1 week ago on Pouliot Surprisingly Displaying A Physical Game
Stepan is on pace for about 44 points this season. which is sub par for him. Cally and Nash after missing games due to injuries and are both putting up better PPG averages, as well as much better GPG averages. Stepan has had plenty of time to get out of a funk from missing pre-season and training camp, not sure what his problem is.
You can't break up the lines. Hags, Richards, and Cally line has been the best line for the last 2 weeks, The Brassard line has been very solid as well, so you don't want to break that line up either. Maybe though, take him off the PP unit, and put Cally in his place. PP has been very good, but it's really because of Zuccs unit.
Anyway, He is just going to have to play through it, imo. You can't scratch him.
6 months, 1 week ago on Why Not Jump Start Stepan With A Healthy Scratch?
I would not scratch him, but take him off the PP though, and I would not break up the Richards line which has been our best line in the last 7 game. Scoring 6 Goals in that time frame, 5 on 5.
