Sucks you can't combine trade exceptions.  We coulda used all of them to offload Perk for a guy like Gasol :(

1 year, 5 months ago on Thunder get $7M trade exception in Martin sign-and-trade

Reply

@TrueChamp It means we get a $7 million trade exception.

Not saying we'll use it, but there are guys out there making aroun $15 million dollars that we could parlay perkins+ the exception in to.  Or just the Trade Exception itself.

The biggest problem the Rockets will run into is having their 2 primary stars being just "basketball players", without a single "basketball lifer" out there.  Time will tell if that's enough, or if one of them develops the mentality it takes to lead a team to victory.

@Come Home Professor X @alvarex @TheresABabyFaceUnderMyBeard @kfmsooner Yeah, exactly.  That thunder team *would* have won the championship the same year the Celtics did.  But they didn't get that shot due to a horrible matchup in the finals.

With that said, it wasn't at all the point I was making.  Ray, Pierce, and KG were all solid off-ball players with only Pierce being a "ball-dominate" player.  Rondo also wasn't much of a ball-hog the year they won the championship.

@OKC035 I love Iggy, but that's WAY more than I'd pay him.  Hot damn, he better accept that in a new york minute.

1 year, 5 months ago on Kevin Martin walks, leaving a hole that needs filling

Reply

@TheresABabyFaceUnderMyBeard @alvarex @kfmsooner Yeah, except there's only one basketball.  We saw that with Harden+Westbrook on the floor at the same time.  They *really* didn't look like they liked eachother with how much they froze eachother out.

Allowing a 6th-man who can score and create on his own allows you to massage that problem over the course of the game.  If the same player starts, you get more issues where the abilities overlap.

I mean hell, if the Thunder were to go to the finals in *any other year of the past 13 years*, they probably win in 6.  With their methodology they almost won a championship but ran against the one team with a matchup advantage.

@Grolgar If he plays so well that 3rd and 4th year that we can't afford to pay him, I'll definitely take that.

@kfmsooner It's hard to argue with balanced offense when the starters sit down.  In fact it makes a ton of sense strategically.  But unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about Egos.

Well, unless you're from Europe where you weren't called "The second coming" since age 13.

@Lost Ones I don't like Adams, but they're grooming him to be a player in 2 years.  Like what they did with Harden, Reggie, Ibaka and Lamb.

As is our team is good enough to beat every team in the league in 7 games (except maybe a hot Spurs team and Miami).  The draft right now is being used to ensure we can still say that in 3 years.

But I still don't like Adams.

last year was a test to see how the Thunder do without Harden.  This year is a test to see how the Thunder Way pays off.  They credit internal development and teamwork over trading for big name players.  If this year the Thunder grow and maintain a 60-win team, it'll be hard to argue that developing our own players fails.

@TempBoy Brandon I've always secretly dreamed that once Kobe's contract is up, he'll do a mid-level championship grab with another superstar team....IE us.  Basically sign on at $5 mill to be our starting SG and play 30ish minutes a game.

Kobe has said tho that he'll retire when he's no longer "the man."  Which is a shame, because some of the greats got more championships because they went to other teams when they were no longer "the man."

Roy Hibbert was drafted 17th overall the same year Westbrook was drafted.  To this day, I have NO IDEA why he fell so hard.  With how teams jump all over every 7 footer, I couldn't understand how a *skilled* 7"2' big man could drop to 17th overall.  I get that he was considered slow...BUT HE'S 7 FOOT 2!

@Crow I personally feel any talent that could be had at 6 will be similar to whats available at 12.  There just doesn't seem to be a large dropoff, as almost all the players in this draft (except Shabazz IMO) scream role players.

But you guys follow the scouting better than I do, so maybe I'm missing something.
