Interesting timing with Mariah Carey's single, also called "You're Mine," being performed a couple days ago and set to be released in two days.

Not a fan of the cover. A bit too literal with the image and her clothing/pose don't match the kind of music she makes. Would've preferred something like the background of this image:

Yes! Absolutely true.

I don't understand how people are not grasping that Mariah did not want Nicki on the panel and acted accordingly, which included her false planted rumour of Nicki threatening to shoot her. In addition, why are people not acknowledging how petty Mariah is being in her critique where she said something along the lines of "I would have to agree with...about..." and essentially repeated what Nicki said, while refusing to say Nicki's name.

It is beyond me how fans can be so blind to Mariah's terrible attitude. You're allowed to be a fan of her work while not agreeing with her actions. And regardless of how many number ones your have or how long you've been in the business, you are not entitled to be holier-than-thou and a massive snob.

@NickRoman1 Agree with what you're saying about why audition. If he pulls out the "to be a testament for God" Colton Dixon line... It's not like Christians are an endangered species or uncommon in America. These contestants are auditioning to get famous and make money; let's get real.

But anyhow, does no one else feel like Devin is quite arrogant? He implies that it was "easier for him [to throw the competition and not win]" because everyone wanted a girl to win, as if he could have changed the outcome if he wanted to. And his disconnection in every single performance was deflected by his reasoning that he had an off week due to an argument with a friend. Sure, give him a pass for one week, but critics (judges, viewers, critics) had that criticism for every one of his performances. And finally, I'm really bothered by contestants who so quickly label themselves as "artists" and "songwriters". Devin was definitely a good singer with natural (read: born with) ability to sing runs and hit notes in tune, but he was a karaoke singer...a really good karaoke singer.

I appreciate these recaps and had a suggestion. Can we work on the short summary sentence that shows up on the homepage before clicking into this post? Last week, it said something like "Did *spoiler* really bit the dust" showing a bloody picture of Karen laying on the ground, which negated the "*spoiler*" in the text. And then this week, it answers that question by saying along the lines of "Will Karen get out of the coma?"

I just wish these short recaps asked would reveal less about the episodes or ask questions that built suspense instead of telling readers who haven't watched the episode yet what will happen (i.e. "Will Karen - because *spoiler* was countered by the bloody Karen picture - bite the dust?" or "Will Karen get out of her coma?" tell the reader, who is casually scrolling through Rickey.org with no intention of reading the full recap yet, things in the episode they don't know happened yet)

Just a suggestion as a longtime reader on Rickey.org.

I think he looks like a velociraptor. And I also get major douche vibes, which I know is unfair because I don't actually know him. But the way he was so reserved and suppressing his words and facial expressions during the audition all came across contrived to me...like he's trying really hard to have the same down-to-earth nice guy likability as Scotty or P2.

And the audition itself was weird. The way he sang the song made it sound like there was no melody.

@Rickey @thelimoboy I was just looking at the statement "The Voice beat American Idol" in context because reading it as-is is out of context. And I definitely wasn't putting down The Voice because its ratings and popularity speaks for itself. Again, just looking at why it was a popular worldwide search in context. I think both shows are good at what they do, which is what I meant by "neither defending nor boosting either show." There's no agenda here, but you can go on if you'd like lol

@Rickey @thelimoboy

lol oops posted the wrong link. Since trending refers to sustained searches as compared to 2011, I'm still not surprised because The Voice had two seasons this year compared to their one season last year.

I just think Idol's doing pretty well holding its own being the most search TV show of the year, not based on improvement but simply searches. Especially since it's had a couple lackluster seasons and it's been around for so long.

1 year, 10 months ago on Whitney Houston tops Google Zeitgeist 2012

The Voice probably beat American Idol in the worldwide search stats because there are so many versions of it worldwide that are getting publicity now; American Idol - not the Idol franchise in general - is exclusive to the States.

American Idol actually beat The Voice in the USA search stats. #1 and #2 respectively.

@NickRoman1 @thelimoboy Haha thanks for being so level-headed with my rude comment. I agree about the source of Tate's popularity, but I still think he is extremely overrated. In my opinion, male country vocalists have it very easy: you just need a solid deep voice, a country twang, and have no vocal abilities beyond being able to carry a tune. Furthermore, probably one of the big selling points of a country artist is their ability to write and deliver genuine, heartfelt music, and in that aspect, he has not (and isn't allowed to) prove it on this platform.

Realistically, being perceived as down-to-earth and humble is already 90% of the battle for him on this show. The other 10% he achieves by closing his eyes when singing something "heartfelt" and having a naturally country-oriented voice, neither of which is impressive to me. I believe Tate enjoys country music and can sing songs believably, but he adds absolutely nothing we haven't seen before ten times over, fifty times better.

If we're going to praise him simply because of how his voice naturally sounds, he should be on The Voice. He probably wouldn't do very well there and it's only then, outside of the grandeur overproduced X-Factor picking-the-least-sucky-contestant environment, would people maybe begin to see how regular Tate actually is.

I really like country music and I'm not dissing Tate to boost Carly (as your deleted comment suggested). As many reviews have noted, people seem to be more invested in Tate as a person over an artist. As a person, he may be admirable and likable. But as a singer or an artist, he is nothing exceptional, unique, new, moving, or interesting. There are nine million versions of him - better versions also.

@Rickey @thelimoboy

She's never debuted at #1, you're right. I wouldn't focus on their place as much as the sales though. Rihanna's Loud debuted at #3 with 207K but Scotty McCreery debuted at #1 with 197K so it really depends on the week if we're talking about placement. Which is why I said I was curious to see how he'd stack up with whatever number of copies he sells; it depends on the week.

I never implied/didn't mean to imply that Rihanna would hinder him because I'm not sure her success is correlated with Phil's lessened success unless you focus specifically on their chart placement, which I don't. Also, I'm not really invested in either artist and therefore, not rooting for one or the other, so I'm genuinely just observing out of curiosity. I just wanted to make that clear so that you know I don't mean boost Rihanna over Phil or offend you as a fan.

My interest is in his sales as an independent figure. Allow me to rephrase and expand on my original statement for clarity: I'm curious to see how many copies Phil sells as an Idol winner with a single that was featured in the Olympics and his particular sound. A secondary point of curiosity for me is to see how that figure stacks up against other first week sales of past Idol winners and other artists debuting that same week.

:/

@Rickey @thelimoboy

Oh no, I've absolutely been following the charts over the years. I genuinely meant I was curious; I wasn't knocking on Phil at all.

Rihanna's Talk That Talk sold 198K in the first week and Loud 207K, both of which are respectable figures. Scotty, Lee, and Kris opened at 197K, 39K, and 80K respectively.

Phillips has gotten more publicity with his single "Home" in the Olympics, but his voice and style of music aren't typical and have a different appeal than the clean-cut classic country Scotty.

So, again, yeah, I'm really just curious to see how it all plays out.

Don't really understand the speed change as well. I wish the chorus was stronger. Didn't know that Cassie's part was from another song. Makes me think she's slapping this together like she did her sophomore album, which was evidenced by how the subject matter of her raps were all about recent endorsements and news. I mean, she hasn't even finished recording and the re-release is coming out in two months? Don't artists normally have their stuff done early for time to plan and promote? Dang...

Are we serious about this guy? He's a decent singer, but we're talking over 10 years of singing competitions past and a $5 million contract. He doesn't stack up against the good singers we've seen already. Simon would've passed if he saw this kid on Idol. And part of the problem with the X Factor is that the judge's decisions are skewed by how grand the stage is and how the audience reacts.

She's a good singer with a unique voice, but the overwhelming focus on bullying as backstories these past two years is tiring. I understand this is the urban side of news on Rickey.org, but the news can also be interesting to people who aren't fully immersed in the genre. Terms like "cosign" are just confusing to some people cause they could interpret it as the artist being signed by more than one label imprint, and it's become sort of a staple word used in the genre for no particularly good reason because it replaces words that much better explain the situation. In this case, Beyoncé praised Ora. It'd also be helpful to post a screencap of what Beyoncé posted about Ora on her site to clear up any misunderstandings about the term "cosign". (http://ionetheurbandaily.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/beyonce-rita.jpg).

Just my opinion! I'm liking the coverage of different things though. Keep up the good work!
