This guy looks like the "anti-Petrino". Thank goodness!
I would hire Phil for five years, bring in Peyton at year three & groom him to be head coach by year six!
@Norton "Law of diminishing returns" is exactly what is about to play out. I doubt all of these rosy predictions of increased revenue will overcome the stark reality of two more mouths to feed. Also, CBS is right on target with their analysis that this expansion has added almost nothing to the overall TV product. "Eyeballs in Missouri" don't mean much if they're all trained on the Rams, Chiefs & Cardinals!
Ugh! We look like we belong in the WAC, not the SEC.
What is the evidence that this "matters to recruits"? U of A Recruiting Coordinator Tim Horton was quoted as saying that he had never had a recruit mention uniforms in his entire coaching career. What these uniforms do accomplish is to solidify our status as a second tier program that looks like we don't belong in the SEC!
The Law of Unintended Consequences strikes again! I knew expansion wasn't worth it.
Tim Horton should be the clear choice! If he handles the job well, remove the interim tag.
Great move, Jeff! I didn't think we had the guts to do the right thing, but I was wrong. I'm very proud to be a U of A alum & Razorback fan tonight. Now let's ring up Kirby Smart!
John, you should slide as many copies of your "Push It Past Cowards" post under as many ADs' doors as you can find. That's the best post you have ever put on here!
If they weren't prepared to go to a nine game conference schedule, they should never have expanded the league!
No problem.
dee6634 I don't see how I could be paranoid about this. I'm not even an Alabama fan. I was simply asking for information.
dee6634 Does Coach Saban have any kind of a track record in similar situations?
That's my kind of guy. Way to go Coach Grant!
I attended my first college football game at War Memorial stadium in 1956. Baylor beat Arkansas 12 - 0 in the season opener. It was Frank Broyles first game as the Razorback head coach. I have had many wonderful memories at War Memorial over the past 55 years. Many of my favorite memories involve the "red-hot" Ark. - LSU series. I hope the Hogs continue to play in War Memorial for many years to come & I especially hope they keep the LSU series there.
Has he been to the U. of Ark. campus yet? That might make him feel a lot better.
Won't the TV networks "encourage" a 9 game conference schedule? It would certainly "enhance the content" of a TV package.
All this is giving me a headache. Why not just go back to divisions like in football? The Big 10 & PAC 12 have it right. Arrange the schedule so as to enhance competition & rivalries within the conference & quit worrying so much about the post-season. That's like teaching for test scores instead of for learning.
So do you think these geographically challenged conference wreckers are thinking about that...at all?
It seems to me that much of the misadventure that is conference realignment is driven by schools chasing automatic qualifier staus for BCS bowls afforded by membership in the power conferences. If major college football does adopt a long-awaited much-needed playoff system, doesn't that do away with the automatic qualifier status & therefore much of the reason for these absurd moves?
