What else would Parker say? Of course he wants home court advantage but he answered a dumb question posed by a reporter. No one would dare pose the same question to Pop.

@Kuestmaster @PaulGarciaPS But how many times have the Spurs been up by 10 only to see the lead disintegrate? I'll take it. It's a start. Especially with the low turnovers.

@rsnettles7414 @snoozulooz Good point but the Spurs must have thought otherwise signing him to a healthy long contract. I wonder how his career minutes compare to John Stockton's.

Did we just witness the worst performance of Parker's entire career in a season where he should be at his highest level as a 32 year old?

Nice to see someone paying tribute to Aron. I doubt that many bigs enjoy being on the court when Baynes is out there.

It all sounded like a good contract at the time as Parker's performance was improving annually and still had good years left in him. I hope that he pulls out of his funk both for Tony and the Spurs.

@rsnettles7414 It's difficult to tell because they don't show defensive footage but it also looks like he is being guarded by the Washington Generals.

@stack36 It's become "The Rodeo Road Trip and Fall". Duncan has indeed been playing well on the road. Baynes and Joseph have become solid contributors and I think Green would be too if not for an ankle that appears to be bothering him right now. Of the entire team, I think Danny Green is the least healthy. Manu is hustling on defense even though struggling on offense. Everything else is a disaster. Parker needs to dig deep down inside himself and find his lost heart because it is affecting everyone on the team, especially Diaw.

I'm not usually one who expects the Spurs to be able to sign a free agent mid season but when you look at the teams competing for his services, the Spurs are the only team capable of competing in the playoffs.

@stack36 Agreed but the gradual decline in Duncan and Ginobili's game is to be expected and the Spurs compensate with Splitter and Green. It was the 32 year old Tony Parker's game that fell off a cliff this season that came as a shock. I dread seeing the man who is supposed to be "The Head of the Snake" and leading the team in his prime even get on the court.

I side with Pop. I am always disappointed when anything sports related reveals it's political side. Sports should be apolitical arenas for anyone that enjoys the sport but in the real world, HEB, AT&T and the Spurs are big money and grease the political wheels to their own benefit. I still have a sense of contentment that Pop has remained apolitical in public but he has been juggling the Spurs players and not the big $$$$.
2 weeks, 1 day ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2015-articles/spurs-owner-gets-political-donates-to-abbott.html
So if "Diaw and Splitter have not played up to expectations" why would the Spurs want one more front court player who has not played up to expectations? That's all Diaw needs is to get bumped by Amare again. That would do wonders for team chemistry. Not that it matters, but once the Spurs are in the mix with other teams, the player is not coming to San Antonio anyway.

It didn't seem to do wonders for JaMychal Green's understanding of Spurs defense, I don't see how it could help Kyle Anderson's either.

@jaws3 This team is a team that Pop still chooses to be led by Tony Parker who, at this point, is a dinosaur living on his past accolades, who is no longer relevant or determined in his effectiveness, As soon as he was taken out of the game, Cory Joseph sparked the team to a rally but Pop( for some unknown reason) never used him again. It's pathetic to watch Parker make bad, complacent shooting and passing decisions that fail. He is living on his past accolades and performing as such. He is a hero in France and that's all he seems to care about. It's pathetic to watch Parker lay on the floor in the end zone waiting on a call from the ref while everyone else is moving up the court in transition defense. It's pathetic to watch him take low percentage shots before his teammates are in position while he still has 20 some odd seconds on the clock. It's pathetic to watch his sluggishness on offense and defense while Cory Joseph could be in the game doing just the opposite. What is most pathetic is his bad and lazy decisions.

I know little to nothing about this guy but it would seem that at only 6'-6", that the Spurs are looking for someone who is smart enough and physically capable enough to disrupt perimeter shooting and passing and fight through pic n rolls. On offense, he needs to move without the ball, be ready to catch and pass at any moment and see the open man. He doesn't have to be extraordinary in the post or shoot lights out or have a great move to the basket or have great ball handling skills. If that were the case, he would already be on an NBA team.

The Spurs return to form against a downtrodden Miami? Maybe, but I'll be more convinced with a good Rodeo Road Trip. It was good execution after 3 days of intense practices and introspection though. Parker is possibly waking up from his complacency and leading the team again but he has far more work to do to get back his mojo which made him "the head of he snake".
3 weeks, 5 days ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2015-articles/spurs-return-to-form-beat-heat-98-85.html
Parker used to be called "the head of the snake" by both Pop and opponents and laid claim to the drive and passion to get Tim another ring. Now I'd rather see Joseph or Mills out there. Parker is just not fun to watch anymore. He looks empty.

Nice article. I agree with all except "5)". There is nothing deceptive about the Spurs record. That's the way the chips fell and they were beaten fair and square in each loss and in most cases there were both offensive and defensive lapses by the Spurs. Those same issues are still present and must be eliminated if the Spurs want to defend the title.
1 month ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2015-articles/5-observations-from-the-spurs-first-half-of-the-season.html
I think SI is a little overzealous. The Spurs still show signs of having a bad hangover from December and with the upgrades and/or maturation of opponents, they find themselves 1 decent forward short of matching them.
1 month ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2015-articles/spurs-click-and-scroll-midseason-grades-how-spurs-got-their-groove-back.html
@Rambler I think the Spurs are just treading water hoping for a decent forward waiver miracle to arise by the trade deadline. In the meantime, it's worth the other long shot to find one out of the D-League.

Cory was never known for racking up assists. The same was true at the beginning of the season. Now I would not be surprised if he is leading the team in assists per minute played.

1 month, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2015-articles/report-spurs-could-be-interested-in-lamarcus-aldridge-this-summer.html
I'm glad he is getting a shot and I think it is an upgrade but he is still the 15th man as Pop stated. Not expecting any "drool" anytime soon, just some decent play when needed once he is over the butterflies. Against a good NBA defense, you won't see many 31 point games out of him but he might turn out to be a solid backup.

@jojo707 More likely someone of more value to the Spurs than JaMychal Green would have to get waived before the deadline and then that waived player would have to choose the Spurs out of 12 or so teams contending for the playoffs. An extreme long shot.

Difficult to say what Kirilenko has left in the tank but I would imagine that he would already be a Spur if they had any interest in him. As to the others, I can't recall the Spurs ever trading away rotation players mid-season. Seems highly unlikely at this point.
I hope his D-League experience and hard work translate to the Spurs system in the NBA. He has 10 days to prove it before the Spurs continue their search for a backup to Kawhi that's a fit in the rotations. Pop has to see through the jitters and mistakes he has early on, that there is a guy here who makes life miserable for opposing second units.

@Faux_Schlmoe @PaulGarciaPS Possibly what the Spurs are delaying for. They have a history of trying to find a place for players to go rather than just waiving them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the whole thing is a small forward issue. Without Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs have no legit veteran or mature small forwards. It's time to bring up JaMychal Green or use the MLE on a veteran but time is running out for any acquisition candidate to grasp and feel comfortable with the Spurs system before the playoffs. Austin Daye was a 1-game-wonder as per usual. I don't dislike the kid, I just don't find him to be consistent enough to be of value to the Spurs on a nightly basis. Pop gave him a shot tonight after a fabulous performance against Minnesota but, once again, that was against Minnesota and not a potential contender.

Houston's seeding position is probably a realistic target to shoot for. GS and Portland are too young and healthy to fall by much unless injuries occur.
1 month, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2015-articles/3-observations-mills-joseph-spurs-improving-defense-january-schedule.html
I can understand Pop's rewarding of the team by bringing back the entire roster but I have been a fan of JaMychal Green since the off season and during Kawhi Leonard's absence, Pop has not had the confidence in Austin Daye to use him even going so far as to use Kyle Anderson instead. Daye is not a rookie. Green does not have lateral quickness so he is not a defensive asset on the perimeter but he is an aggressive spark otherwise and sometimes that's better than talent. From the highlight reel, he seems to have worked on his perimeter shooting which was another one of his weaknesses. Nothing seems to have hurt the Spurs more than not having a backup to Kawhi.

I still see Marco as being a year away from being a true contributor. He needs to work at finishing at the rim or near the rim which used to be Danny Green's problem until he spent the summer working on it.

2 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2014-articles/is-it-time-for-popovich-to-end-rest-gate.html
@ATTCenterMosaic @andersonstevem A lot of factors go into an 82 game regular season. I can think 82 to begin with. 83 might be luck. Last year the Spurs had a lot of good fortune. This year, not so much. 84 might be that every team in the NBA is up for playing the Champs every game. That didn't happen last year either. Now when Duncan is not in "restgate" he is usually playing in excess of 30 minutes. That didn't need to happen last year either. I don't get it. Which is the awesome part?
So the Spurs are off to their worst start since 2011-2012. Well that's going way back. Maybe the Spurs don't get top seed for the playoffs but as each Spur and each Spurs coach tell us year after year, the prime goal is to be healthy and playing at their peak when the playoffs start and top seed is nice but not primary. Each season comes with a unique set of circumstances including injuries and when and if they occur. This season is no different in that respect and Pop is handling the unique circumstances uniquely. Some of the worst quarters played by the Spurs this season came with the big 3 on the court. Its not all about "Restgate".
" That alone proves that the Silver and Black can still get things done despite recent woes." Specific regular season games against any specific team prove nothing. That was proven last season.
I can think of 5 things I won't be watching for:
and very many minutes from Tiago Splitter

To quote Henry Kissinger: "The best revenge is living well". That's the difference between Russell Westbrook and the Spurs. When the Spurs lost to Miami 2 seasons ago in the finals, revenge was not on their minds. What was on their minds was atoning for their own mistakes and collectively getting better.
