@EricaVirtue I used 3 lbs, most guys used 5-7. You felt the light weights rather quickly. As for x-training, I'd say inline skating, trail running, or even rock climbing would be good alternatives!

@DanielleBilodeau Thanks, Danielle! For me, rice and beans is an awesome (cheap) staple ...never gets boring w/ the different types of beans!

@EricaVirtue It was definitely a bit of both. Heart rate was kept up the whole time thanks to "jump roping," burpees, and mountain climbers, but we added some dumbbells in the mix for arm/chest/back exercises too!
@50by25 Haha they are quiiite the experience! And really good point...there are mixed opinions about this myth. While soreness is a result of these micro tears, most studies suggest that ice just numbs the pain while narrowing blood vessels to reduce swelling. Rest seems to be the best method for repairing micro tears!

@lynnes Fair statement! Yet what I was getting at is working out mid-day could make us more productive once we return to the office. So even though we have to physically make up the time, we could get more done and save time overall.

@funcfitVA Thanks, Tom, and glad you saw the track-back. The Jump-Up is also a great recommendation. I'll definitely use the link you provided and try them out, too!

Do any of you guys have go-to bedtime snacks to wake up recovered and fueled in the AM?

Jo FormaFisicaPostparto Hi, Jo! What's great about this program is there are no pull-ups involved, so even if trying to go from zero to one, this is for you! Definitely make sure to stretch before, and don't skip out on the pushups and planks to strengthen the chest and core. Just take it slow and you'll feel stronger in no time. Then you'll probably have to get to counting :)
Jagudelo Awesome, you can totally do it! If you haven't lifted much before, definitely rest enough between sets, and remember..it'll be a challenge! But, don't get discouraged— your whole upper body is going to get stronger in no time :)
We want to know how you're doing on the pull-up challenge, so comment below! Right now I'm two-weeks down and have tacked on one pull-up to my record (I can now do three). Good luck and getting pullin'!
For sure. Personally, I definitely lose focus in the afternoon and need to take a break from the office in order to revamp my energy. But hey, an AM workout is better than no workout!
Hey guys—does your company allow you time to go workout? Do you find it helps you get more work done?
Hi Wendy—thanks for reading and for your response. You do raise a good point—that juice fasts give us nutrients. However, these cleanses are often low in protein, which can lead to muscle breakdown and weakened immune systems. Unfortunately, there have not been many studies done on the effects of juice fasts. So since there's no scientific data behind it, it's hard for us to uncover the potential benefits before the scientists.
That said—I appreciate your comment and I hope you continue coming back to Greatist.
