Just smoking my first of these now (church).  Awesome cigar!  It reminds me a LOT of the MoW Armada, my favorite AJ stick ... these might even eclipse those ... I'll have to do a bit more research :)

Looking forward to this!  The Viaje love/hate thing was amusing for a while, now it's just old.  Smoke what you like.  I like the Exclusivo blend.

Thanks for this review on a cigar I'll never smoke, but have been curious about!  I love the Trinidad profile, and the first Cuban I ever had that made me say, "Ahh, now I get it!" was a 5-yr-old Coloniales.

If CI keeps the current manufacturing and blends intact, I don't see too much of a problem.  If they simply put these labels that they now own on cigars with different tobaccos manufactured elsewhere ... that's sad.

Again, why not just raise the age for CIGARETTES, why add cigars into the mix?

Also, there should be (if not already) a clause in the laws that states that cigars could be used with the supervision of a parent or guardian (like alcohol is now).  It should be a parent's choice whether or not to allow their teenager a glass of wine now and then, or a birthday cigar, etc.

Wow, surprising review!  I personally love the '26 line, even prefer it to the '64.  The #1, #9, and #35 are all favorite cigars of mine.  I think I'm going to have to try to find a couple of these and give them a try, but a box is out of the question with these kind of prices.

Great review!  To my tastes, the No. 2 has really improved over the last year, and is a cigar a really love (so sad they were limited).  I plan to get a box of No. 5, but will likely rest them a while before diving in.

That might be cool, but it's also double the work (coming up with a 2nd blend).  There are only so many ideas that can exist when it comes to packaging cigars.  I personally thought Jaime's idea was excellent, and would like to see that sort of thing happen a lot (with props to Jaime, of course).

MN sucks, lol.  This is a tough one.  For pricey stuff, it will actually reduce costs ... making Limited Release parties and such at shops much more inviting, that that's VERY good for the shops!  A Feral Flying Pig might go down close to $2/stick under this new scheme, which is great.

But for "everyday" cigars, Minnesotans are SOL.  Either drive across the boarder, or (while it lasts) order from out of state.

Don  Dion is a Master!  I appreciate his cigars more and more as I continue on my cigar journey.  I also respect that he focuses on excellent and consistent products, as opposed to flash and 30 new releases a year.  If you put out 1 or 2 new cigars a year and they are awesome, then that's a huge success!!

@Odb  These days it's not so much about new lines per-se, it's NEW in general.  Tatuaje has done what the Fuentes have done, adding new vitolas to existing lines far more often than adding entirely new lines.  Whether it's the consumers or the marketing, it seems the industry is all about the "new" right now, though of course that's not limited to the cigar industry, it's pretty much everywhere.

FWIW, I love the Brown label and plan to get at least a few boxes of the 10th Annis (Noellas, Cazadores, Especiales, J21 for sure)

Just smoked my first one today.  Great cigar for sure.  This first sample was not better than the #9 Flying Pig or FFP (or the 1 UF-4 I've had) to me personally, but that was only 1 sample so the jury is still out.  One thing is for sure--it was great and I want more!

To not re-release the Goldie in the Laguito No. 2 again might be a poor buisness decision.  That cigar, along with the Kill BIll, have put you guys on the map for most of us.  Why not make it a yearly release?  I'm not against a No. 5 at all, just saying that to state that the No. 2 is "done" is ill-advised.  That would be like VIaje not re-releasing the VOR#5, Camacho canceling the Liberty Series or Tatuaje canceling the Monster Series.

My 2 cents, of course.

Agreed!  This as the T114 are about tied for my favorite Thermonuclear regular release, though they are quite different from each other.  I give the edge to the Avion '12 as the overall better cigar, but the T114 is just great for that occasional 3rd cigar of the day :)

Amazing job, guys! This takes a TON of work and I'm really glad you did it!

@Skip Martin

I have the exact same concern, which I voiced on the S&S forum. What I would like to see everyone do is make at least 2 lists, "Best New Cigars" and "Favorite Cigars of the Year." Of my favorite cigars this year (one of which is the Cromag, just like last year), only a few of them were new. Does that make them less awesome?

My concern is that this trend in new media might lead to a lack of attention to existing cigar lines by manufacturers (we already see this in Cuba, imvho), reallocating the best tobacco to new projects, etc. If this continues, we may see a lot of discontinuations of great lines because everyone becomes even more obsessed with the "new." Not that I don't do the same, I went through this list like "Got it, need it, got it, got it, need it" lol.

Thanks for the review!  The only problem I have with these is $10/stick for a 4" cigar.  That's the price of a Padron '26 #35 (another 4" cigar) ... but that's a Padron '26 ...

If they made these a regular release and I saw them on sale ... now we're talking!  The main question is this, though:

Is this the best Daytona vitola (lancero aside)?

Great review!  I think no one would argue that these are some of Cuba's best in terms of quality and (in my experience) construction.  These are also a very unique cigar, and pretty different than any other Trinidad (Reyes is closest, imvho).  But like you said, you either like the flavor or you don't!  I personally love it!

Here is one question I have ... I have smoked some of these that are very mild, smooth, and pretty sweet.  And I have smoked others that were quite spicy (surprisingly so).  Have you noticed this as well?  I'm wondering if it's an age thing, since the "spicy" ones were all older ('09).  I actually like them both ways, but it would be nice to know if age is the main factor here (I usually like to know what to expect).
