Hey Ari - this didn't post correctly this week.
Ari, AWESOME podcast! I had never heard of lucid dreaming before and this was fascinating.
Also, when you were talking about BrainTurk at the beginning and mentioned "words that start with E-N-T", my honest first thought was "like enterologist?" Then you can gave examples like "enter" and "entrance" and I was really weirded out by missing those obvious ones :) Apparently my brain's first reaction is to be pretentious - scary!
Amazing, thanks!
Did you figure out what was up with your podcast? I haven't been able to get it to play from the feed for a while; it requires me to just download it manually with a browser and load it onto my phone instead of using a podcast app.
Ben, which power stretching DVD did you use? I'd be interested in checking it out, but you didn't mention a product name.
This is FANTASTIC - all great tips for making a more productive to do list. I already use some of these, but am excited for the new insights!
This is REALLY interesting - I'd totally consider doing it in the US...
Just got one of these for Christmas and was debating whether or not to keep it. Thanks for the review, Jordan!
Made this last night with canned peaches - it was AWESOME, and going on my permanent Thanksgiving dessert rotation! I prepped the filling in advance and also mixed the topping except for the butter. Halfway through dinner, I got up, mixed the butter into the topping, layered the topping/filling into a baking dish, and popped it in the oven so it would bake while we finished dinner. SO great!
Can canned peaches be used to avoid having to peel all the peaches? Making this for my Thanksgiving dinner and I'm excited!
Just this week, I came across quinoa flakes at Whole Foods. They cook to a consistency that's kind of like Cream of White, except much healthier for you! They are my new breakfast go-to, and I can see them being great with this recipe.
@Jordan Shakeshaft I typically use them for weightlifting / aerobics / random gym classes :) Eventually, I end up throwing them away - by that point, they're not really even good for donations.
I'm wondering if old running shoes (i.e., with worn out cushioning) would be a good choice? Perhaps one of the Greatist experts could weigh in...
How does the grid roller work? I have seen those but never been clear on the benefits or how to use them.
For a very healthy way to make something super sweet, I like to slice a banana and then heat it on the stove (no oil). The sugars in the banana caramelize, so it ends up tasting even sweeter than before. I use this trick a lot with smoothies (though you have to cool the caramelized banana first), in oatmeal, etc.
Traveling is the worst! My toughest thing is balancing getting to eat at yummy local restaurants vs trying to stick to chains so that I know approximately how many calories I'm consuming. Plus, I'm with you on stress from travels gone awry sometimes getting to you and making you overconsume. To help combat that, I keep a ton of candy-like protein bars in my laptop bag. They're something that feels like a total indulgence (ahem, loaded with sugar/chocolate), but are not nearly as bad as actually consuming a candy bar / cookies / etc.
Tip: try shiritaki noodles when you're really craving pasta. Doesn't work well with marinara sauce, but you can make a pretty good pesto or use cottage cheese/Greek yogurt/bit of cheese to make a cream sauce that works well. Also works great in soup.
Is carrying the water bottle intended to be a core workout because you're off balance, or is it so you don't forget to stay hydrated? Both good options :)
@MatthewCool I did run Boston and had a fantastic time! Love your city, and am currently in the midst of planning another trip there for a beer festival :)
@MatthewCool , I'm totally impressed with your dedication! Do you usually do a "full workout" everyday, or how many days a week do you do that routine? I'm usually only able to squeeze in an hour or more in the long run I do on weekends, but on weekdays I make do with 20-45 mins at a time.
