Honestly thought it was low for opening demands. Extremely reasonable.

I cannot begrudge these men a chance to cash out. Callahan put life and limb on the line for us...I'll root for him forever. But that contract in an income tax free state?! No brainer for him. Also no brainer for Sather to not sign him and pick up marty. It's a business gents. Let's not lose sight of the fact marc staal has given us his head and damn near his sight. I hope we resign him, but I hope he cashes out big time too. Probably not cashing out here. Mcilrath and Allen are knocking on the door. He's injury prone. BUT he's better than Girardi and saw what he signed for. I just hope he's not a bruin, a flyer or a penguin bc he really would be THE missing piece for those teams. Either way, he's been a damn good ranger.

I can't believe miller is only 21. My expectations for him the past 2 years were wayyyyy out of whack. I've wanted to dump this "bust" thinking he was 23 or 24. Didn't know he made his debut at 20! Like the great Xavier laflemme before him...theres still time to get his head out of his ass and make some real noise this year!

Wow. He used to be a lot faster eh? Father time is undefeated. Also look how comfy he is on the left wing. That needs to happen again. No more of this off wing stuff

lets be honest... torts would have kept all these guys in hartford until they learned how to play redline to redline and layed down in front of shots... hartford would be undefeated with a line of eberle-giroux-perrry... lol

That 2003 draft is an abomination. New York jets bad. Ken O'Brien over Dan Marino Bad. Kyle Brady over warren Sapp Bad.  The Mcilrath one is looking pretty bad too.  Imagine Cam Fowler in AV's System?! you win some and you lose some, but man those are some big misses.  Any chance this has anythig to do with the ultra-conservative approaches of Renny and Torts?

Kevin, I feel for you. This time of year is a dead zone for news cycle. But I miss this site! I miss the passion and banter. I hope im not out of line, but may I make a suggestion? Instead of scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel for relevant "news"...can you appeal to nostalgia? A story on your experience with the '94 team... a break down of the fall of the franchise under sather... a profile of the best and/worst trades the franchise has ever made...a rangers all-time "what if" team... Idk something to that effect. I personally would rather read your opinion on interesting content and prepare myself to go toe-to-toe debating say my name during my lunch break than read this kind of "news" and go ..."well..that's...something I guess?" Again I really dig the blog and feel for you guys this time of year. Please don't think me out of line and please consider a different direction for tour off-season content.

In what world is derrick brassard worth 5 mil a year?!

1 month, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/

Wow. A lot to digest here.

1. Don't blow your lid on the numbers being bandied about during negotiations. They ask for the stars so they can settle on the moon.

2. We overpaid Girardi BIG TIME. Everyone knew it when we did it.

3. Girardi has a no movement clause

4. Staal has never said he wanted to leave new York. Has only said he would love for his bros to join him here

5. Tanner glass at 1.5 looking real good right now

6. All of the rfa's are tradable assets. If brass gets 5 mil per he's as good as gone.

7. Would any of us really be that upset if zucc and kreider signed 4 tear 16 mil deals?! I wouldn't

8. John Moore is vastly underrated

9. Cam talbot mark Staal and Derrick brassard at least get the penguins to answer the phone for geno?

the blackhawks are genius.  the cap will continue to rise year by year. you lock up two of the top 5 players in the league for the duration of their prime. you are in win now mode for the next two years, while selling your aging "stars" to the highest bidder for young up-and-comers--plural.  Sharp is ok, but hes so overvalued.  Who isnt going to score 30 on a line with toews and kane?! seabrook is old, and benefits greatly from playing with keith.  barring a catastrophic injury to any of the big three, this team is poised to content for the next decade.  remember when everyone said versteeg and bueflglin were going to be huge loses?!  these hoes aint loyal...

I actually tend to agree with boyle. I would have loved to see him on the power play. You don't need to take the guy off the 4th line or pk. But throw him a bone and put his big body in front of the keeper! I love how Boston and lak run their pk. 1 point. 2 slots and TWO big bodies in front of net. All they do is throw the puck on goal and inevitably it gets redirected somewhere in front. Plus the pk has to keep two guys low which opens up room for your snipers. I would have loved to see mcD as our point. Marty brass Stef and Nash rotating as the circle wingers and ck, poops and boyle BOTH parked in front of net. :( oh well

ive mentioned this before, but I actually work in a player development capacity for another sport.  it is every organizations goal to identify, develop and promote talent from within.  Especially in salary cap sports you cannot be paying for the production from the upside of an athletes bell curve, and receive the production on the downside of that bell curve.  you can hide one guy like that and preach his intangibles--see richards, brad. But anymore than one and it turns into a disaster quick (see gomez, scott, drury, chris, redden, wade)  ......That being said, you have to have a leadership group in tact that is able to identify talent, AND DEVELOP it.  It seems simple enough but it is really, really not. it takes a special coach that can evenly divide his time and talents to game planning, game management, and player development.   You look at the wunderkin Theo epstein... in boston he ruled the world. greatest mind the game had ever seen...now with the cubs? not so much.... but you look at tito francona... won with the phillies, won with the sox, winning with cleveland.... you look at guys like buck showalter, guys like jimmy leyland.  they are great game managers...but they also bring a support staff and a SYSTEM with them that allows players to find their role and execute in ways that help the team develop.   I see kind of that teaching mentality in AV.  How many guys progressed throughout the season? the whole team basically? how many guys had career years?half of the team?  that shows me this guy has a plan.  he knows how to effectively evaluate, identify and implement the assets at his disposal.  to make a short story long... i wouldnt feel comfortbale with an all out youth movement with most guys... with AV i would.  It seems to fit his skill set.

Lot of talk about thornton. Guy can't skate. Going to be very hard to find a guy that can skate and plays a physical game, because remember, this is only year one of AV transition. I love the arguments all the time about needing heavyweights needing enforcers needing size. It's the same thing going on in football. Do you need a between the tackles back anymore? Or do you go shotgun spread, read option? What's more effective the ground and pound or the run and shoot?! Soft 6 back zone blankets or 3-4 bump and run pressure defences?! Truth is there's merit to both. Seattle went 1980's football this year and won out. Giants twice before that. Ravens. 49ers. Power football. Big physical agreesive players. But then there's green bay. New orleans. Denver. New England and probably Philly this year. Run and shoot. Bend but don't break. It's ideological differences. Honestly no right or wrong answer. It's about identifying talent for your system. Developing talent within your system and then executing your system. Our system is speed, agility, volume possession and volume shots. Don't be surprised if you see staal or Girardi traded for more of a Brian Campbell type. Don't be surprised if the blue shirts make a run at a versteeg not an iginla. Etc etc.

I keep watching the Nash highlight real I posted getting madder and madder when I realized... nearly all of those goals came off the left wing where he used his big body to shield the puck. When did he switch to right wing?! Makes no sense. Wastes his size when he just gets stick checked all day. Switch krieder and Nash. Krieders speed should be on steps forehand anyway and you don't need to worry about a stick check when you're behind the d!!
