Yes! The man was MVP of the Swedish elite league and is a rising star that is rapidly gaining notice around the NHL. He could achieve superstar status if he continues to play this way and would be hands down favorite wherever he goes. Who could root against this guy? Another crown jewel in Sathers cap, still a notch below the McDonagh steal but getting right up there. Bravo to NYR for sticking with him as Zucc could wind up right up there with Graves, Giacomin etc as far as fan favorites go. I'd even go so far to give him the A next year, with McD getting the C.

Good for Richards. I hope he has his best 6 weeks as a nyr. He should be psyched to get bought out right??? I mean think about all that money upfront, especially if he puts in a great playoffs and earns a decent contract somewhere else on top of it.

Ridiculous rebounds! We just lobbed pucks off him and most times got another chance out of it. Nash perimeter may actually prove deadly when he suits up ha. He did almost score a doozy- woulda been highlight reel but shot wide. Anyway great satisfying win- both teams showed true colors
This is how the rangers need to punish.

Yes to all, especially statsny

Gotta play to your strengths, and the rangers like any team I guess play best when each guy delivers his strengths- that includes zucc blending feisty and finesse, Nash going to the net at least every other shift, hank being hank, poo being their most effective power forward (wow), Step and Richards shooting rather than forcing passes and turning the puck over, etc..combine that with one of the best 4th lines and look out. We have good balance and an identity again finally, which is not as easy to pin down as 2 years ago's team, but I think that is a good thing. This is a much better team IMO and I can't wait til Thursday!!

Really need Kreider back

He'll be bought out. Long as he doesn't get hurt, a good move overall by sather to give him one more year. Got 20 goals out of him and decent power play performance. But yeah, see ya
Good addition and glad to see us continue to build a team around a talented defensive core

This will keep philly wondering what lineup they will face, but I don't think miller plays unless they go down 2-0 in series

I'm guessing it'll actually start at 1230 to make room for Doc's drawn out explanations.

Talbot is awesome. Anyone looking for a starting goalie would have to consider him. Since he's approaching late 20s, he could become a blue chip in a trade for the rangers if ever needed. Tho I'd be happy to keep him too. Just have to weigh the options- 20 solid games from a backup or full season from whoever we get...

@Say my Name we polished a gem there. plus one for sather. that line could stay together and produce for years and years

@RangersForte yeah he turned out great.
@G there's always that one team that really ignites and starts firing on all cylanders come playoff time. and to be honest, despite the overall very commendable record this season, our best offensive players have not fully stepped up to the plate. if they can catch a wave now, look out.
1 week, 1 day ago on
Safe to assume the D and G will be there for us. Gonna all come down to the PP, and if Nash and MSL can be effective every shift
Nash's game winning goal was his 9th? A franchise record? Wow.
Can we just all agree to get behind the big man for the playoff push?
glad i taped and FF'd through this one. big night tho, home ice. no hank in montreal. no mcd in montreal.
bring it philly
@rangermom Sather drafted callahan right? Time will tell, but he also likely got the best years out of callahan. he then traded him for a lock future hall of famer who will have at least one 30 goal season with the rangers, at a much lower cost. great move.
Wish we could have kept him, but this was just smart buisiness by Sather.
If we'd paid him 6+ million for 6 years and 3 of the seasons were like this one?
Thats how you get fired as an unfirable GM
@Betweentheworlds you serve the team and the franchise before individual player demands. Why does everyone fawn over the legacy of Ryan Callahan so much? it's kind of insane. You'd think he was Messier and Graves love child who'd already won 3 cups and finished in the top 10 scoring or still played complete seasons... Of course he's a gutsy player who can score some, but I think we really over-mythologized him as soon as he was handed the ever-holy "C". It's called marketing, folks.
@ObviouslyTwoPointsAreGreat @rangermom it's a thankless job really. if the team is winning, its the players and the coach, and you don't hear much about the GM. losing team? crucify the GM. honestly i think he's pulled off some great trades, and of course some clunkers. and the biggest clunker, he turned into his best. as for cap stuff, too early in the history of the cap to tell. listening to his team and hiring AV was very smart. With torts we miss the playoffs this year. With Eakins who the F knows??
@Hockey1982 @bk59 only time will tell. but can't argue with the fact that he was asking too much. you can get a little more edge for a lot cheaper. of course he brought more than that, but he priced himself out. period. i really think they'll have a very good chance at signing him for less this off-season.
@mando24179 gotta keep stepan and brassard, unless we can land a stastny. you need 2 great O lines to really be a good team, and we are on our way to that with the guys we have. buying out richards is the obvious move. if they really love him and think he is important to the team, they'll resign him to the 3 yr, 10mil he deserves

Does Tabby get the start on Thursday?
It's weird it's like he has a mental block. I've heard Maloney say it with an O but then he goes right back to zuccarella. Remember how Sam, or everyone else in the league, depending who you ask, mispronounced Kovalev? Why didn't anyone just get to the bottom of how to say it haha!
Great win tonight- our offense can be absolutely dominant and power play should this terrifying for opponents. All the lines are clicking at the right tine. 3 assists for MSL must mean he is relaxing a bit. Expecting huge things from him next week.LGR!!!!!
hopefully fast has "moves like kreider" did in his first playoff

@EquusBiz we got in because we have enough points compared to other teams who don't. no biggy, lets just start winning again
@Billfrom Brookhaven @BringBackBeukeboom (hard to argue with the fact that he is, i should say)
@Billfrom Brookhaven @BringBackBeukeboom Not his best season, and yes inconsistent, but it's hard to argue that Nash is our most skilled offensive player. by a ton. he needs to catch fire for the playoffs and if he does, we have a shot. i think it's worth trying him with zucc, argualy the most creative player in the league. he may inspire the big guy to go to the net, without the puck, and let zucc hit him in stride.
@Josh-CK i agree. it's also pointless right now. that's just not our team. fact of the matter is, if our power play had stayed even remotely hot, we'd be chasing the presidents trophy. stay fast, draw penalties, and damnit score on the power play. that with solid team D and oh yeah a top 5 goalie? pretty great recipe
@Billfrom Brookhaven ZBP has been great but not untouchable. and it hasn't carried the team. If Nash gets going in a real way, that could carry the team. That's what I'm thinking. Step and Nash have higher ceilings than Poo and Brass. Worth a shot. If it's a bust, they won't forget how to play together.
We need to try it though

kevin, that's exactly what I've been thinking. Zucc has to be among the world's elite playmakers right now and if he can find something special with Nash, that would be huge. And then the logical move is to put MSL in Zucc's place on his old line. I have a good feeling about that.
It honestly may even pay off more for Stepan, who will be able to use that wrist shot even more...
@fushone @TomDundie @JoeyKocur I agree. there will and always will be / should be toughness and fear and retribution in the game. one dimensional "goons" are obsolete. players as individuals need to be skilled and tough to thrive, ideally. what needs to go are the cheap shots that every player is open to at any given time. i think the 5 game suspension and tiny fines are a joke, and obviously not helping. the whole team and organization needs to want to end the cheap shots, so the punishment needs to be felt in a real way. I propose that the heavy fines directly hit the team's salary cap. that will end this shit real quick.
@pkh33 @SmellyKisio change has to come from within the organizations, and fining/suspending one guy (who is likely not one of your most talented guys) just doesn't hurt the team enough to make a difference. this would
If they want this crap gone, they need to get serious about the penalties. 5 games is a joke,
It should be longer and a heavy fine should then go against the salary cap of the team. That will help clean up the problem from within each organization. You won't just get a slap on the wrist and pay a relatively puny fine. You will cost your team, who will need to evaluate if they can even afford to keep you around
A fast team that chips the puck behind the D will draw lots of penalties, and we do. gotta start scoring again to maximize this system. no more Bad Richards
@McPhee37 did you play in the NHL? what yar are we talking?
No brassard cost them the game. The retaliation threw in the white flag, ironically. Gave up the last real chance to tie it up. Plus we engaged and got asses whooped
1 week, 6 days ago on
Wait but there's like 2 minutes left in the season haha
No one would take Richards or Stl after this year, even if they were both half paid for by NYR. They'd want at least one or two guys, on top of Mcd
He's getting old and he goes out every night in NYC. That is the rangers curse. Too many distractions in this town
@Betweentheworlds to start that now though? taking on a whole new identity could be real tricky and counter productive. trust me, all of these players idolized guys like messier growing up and know of every trick in the book... remember, these are the guys who have devoted their lives to the sport, and likely know just about everything there is to know about the history of the NHL, and are the miniscule percentage who have made it in themselves. they don't need to see tapes of messier. why not just show them tapes of gretzky's 92 goal season so we can score some more goals- "ooh, THATS how you score? ok lets do it!".... Gritty, chippy play is mental and physical and if the guys we have aren't those types of players, there's not much that can be done there... And I'm sorry, but players should know you don't ask the coach "can I go retaliate"... What coach, on national TV, is going to nod "yes go get that guy"...?
You just DO IT on your own. If AV nods Yes there, he is suspended or worse for that kind of premeditation. He has never benched a player for standing up for his team.
It's all on the players.
Richards needs to be in the press box. it's getting absurd. Everything East-West he tries is totally failing, and almost always leads to a rush/scoring chance the other way. Blind passes to the opposing slot are worthless and dangerous against a team who can quickly turn that glorified turnover into a fast break. he stinks
@Dznpicksformoulsonnow would love ORR and Prust
@johnnyb3910 i agree on all but cally. can only assume cally wanted out of here with those ridiculous demands. and he turned down 6/6 which he will not get this summer anywhere else. had nothing to do with AV. our record without Cally is still very good, let him the F go already. he was a great grinder who could also score a handful of goals. but from here on he gives you 60 games a season tops, maybe 15-20 goals. had to take what we could get, and there was no reason to think MSDL would be this much of a bust. that said, record is still good since his arrival.
