I'm not even sure if it's a tactic as much as it is his being honest. If you're smart, honest, confident and truly talented at what you do, you will most likely have huge success. that's AV. whereas torts had no foresight and played mind games and obviously had his own demons, insecurities, etc, this dude is the real deal. Ice.
You can't bury someone for being snakebit, it would be ignorant to think he's not TRYING to score.
And Nash was kinda the same way- confident and honest. He knows he has superstar talent, and doesn't let a slump or crazy press vultures get him down. you know he's just like "yup, i score 30-40 goals, and sometimes don't score for a few games"…never too high or low. confidence. that's the kind of guy who can deliver in this town. jeter. guy doesn't need to explain himself. it is nice that he clearly put in extra work on the offseason though. gonna be a sick year.
Mueller is a keeper. Sky the limit for Nash this year

And Kreider hasn't even fully kicked in yet

Ah nothing quite like game 7, rangers-devils!
couldn't we put a miller-time package together for ryan ellis or marc method?

If they play like last night, hard to argue

It's going to be one hell of a season for Nash, especially if St. Louis can remain a legitimate threat, which I think he has.
Love that first line. Maybe step, MSL and duke when the time comes. Have they tried zucc and duke together at all? If for no other reason than the catchiness?

MSL is not that fdr removed from a scoring title and Nash seems to be approaching too form. Makes sense to spread that across 2 lines. Who knows, this permutation has just as good a chance to gel as any other. Will miss the duke
His keep-ins were ridiculous. Among everything else

I'm hoping it will all play out and show itself as far as who deserved to play and who does not, but boy, there is no stretch in the season where every point in the standings is not crucial so hope AV finds it ASAP. Duclairs gotta be a little deflated, confused and panicked right now. That won't relax his hands next time he does get the call. Don't like this move

@GiveGartneraCup @J_CKfor30 sign and trade staal in a package for phanoef, let them all head north, the staals

@Say my Name @J_CKfor30 @JMK8363 @Zelrio miller and talbot should yield a proper #5 D
yeah…. miller. i just don't see it happening at this point. bummer
@gravey94 @J_CKfor30 @SmellyKisio and, with some distance… let's all face it- last year was a MASSIVE success. we are not at a place like the yankees, or whoever, where anything short of the championship is a let down. that was fantastic, and hopefully we can build on it.
@J_CKfor30 @SmellyKisio that's just a great play by the D though, combined with being snake-bit. if he decided not to back check there, ok he should take some blame, but every shot that doesn't score can't be counted as a check mark in the "cost us the game" category. we also hit 2 posts in that OT right? whoever shot those pucks didn't lose us the game, they just didn't win it for us. i guess that's the difference. we want someone who will win the game for us single-handedly. no one is going to do that, ever. all we can hope for is that they play good hockey, and eventually the skill set will shine. he'll probably get 40+ goals this year and that's a big deal no matter how you slice it.
@KevinMccarthy most of, if not all of the 3rd period and OT
He absolutely did not cost us the Stanley cup, that's insane. He was playing very good all around hockey but was not scoring. The scoring slump sucked but he did everything else. That said, did Girardi more accurately cost us a game? Absolutely. Did the refs cost us 2 games with the non-interference call and the inexplicable tripping call on zucc? Yes. At least more so than someone not scoring. People like Ovie score 2 or 3 goals in a game and Actually do cost the team a loss bc of bad Defensive/hockey decisions. Not the case with Nash. He had an off scoring year due to concussion and never got fully caught up, but still almost had 30
Goals and 9 game winners. The regular season absolutely matters- it lays the foundation for the playoffs and is the true test of who is the best team. And if you take a step back, the playoffs are a tournament, after 82 games have been played, guys are injured, etc, where literally ANYThinG can happen. A goalie gets hot, a rental player starts lighting it up, injuries, it's a total crapshoot and not always indicative of the best team. Of course I love the playoffs, and winning the cup is the ultimate goal, but to see the regular season as meaning nothing is misguided. Why even watch then? ...long post
I feel like he has done nothing BUT stand out as one of our top 6 threats. I hope they don't send him down. He's ready
I was baffled by the duke benching. Sam didn't even mention it. I think it started after the quick whistle where he had an open net and put it wide.... Hopefully not injured. He played well I thought, no?? Was it just the fact that Hayes has been heating up and can play center and AV wanted MSL back to wing, leaving the Duke out on the audible?
No spectacular saves, no bad goals that I saw- though surprised the point shots got past him

I hear you on miller. Personally, I've seen all I need to see. Does he have trade value? Is there a number 5 defenseman out there?
What a coincidence you start commenting after the islandiz game. You are an Islandiz fan as suspected last year when you lived vicariously through NYR and still have a hard on for us. "Wooooo". Go blow Jiggs McDonald and check back in next time we play, I have a "strange" feeling the rangers will hVe turned it around by then. You go, Islandiz

i like the look of this lineup a lot. i predict a 94-esque 6-0 NYR win

Crummy game to go to last night, especially since I only go a couple times a season. Thanks to last year, I'm not all that worried. Not sure if it translated on Tv, but Girardi was lost and seemed to lose his guy on 3 goals. Did he take on Nash's extra LBs before camp? Duclair is a top sixer for sure. Just needs the minutes.
We shouldn't even ask hagelin to score, just use his weapon to forecheck, and goals are a bonus. Stempniak is really good, though he blatantly blew it on that one goal against. But he's a keeper. Nash will get 40 goals this year. Actually I predict 43. Hopefully better results Tuesday.
1 week, 5 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Can you guarantee we won't give up 10 to the Isles? How would you know that?
Come on Nash, you're on a scoring streak, ever hear of a Dula
1 week, 6 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Not.... Autocorrect yikes
View was now "obstructed"
No way does Duclair go back. Most kids could use the seasoning but he has superstar skills and is ready to learn at this level, now. Any possible shortcomings are worth it for the speed and creativity and blazing shot- Bobrovski did not even flinch on that shot that hit te crossbar, and his view was not a stricter in the least. A ridiculous wrist shot along with all the rest. Kid is sensational. Best rookie since hank. More minutes better.
Hags 3rd line, yes. Perfect fore checker.
Millers gotta go. Too many capable guys chomping at the bit for him to keep getting looks.
@McPhee37 @betweentheworlds can't argue with the results this coach has brought though right? if the team architecture was built around size and different attributes, it would be one thing.. Having one more rugged guy in there will not make as much of a difference as possibly one slow guy slowing down an entire line, which can then gum up the entire pace of a game, butterfly effect, etc....plus, old enforcers are even more useless bc one fight takes mud longer to recover from, rendering him slower and more useless on the rest of the ice…
AV is building a brand and all cylinders need to fire. 3 wins from a cup is proof enough that he knows what he's doing. i understand that toughness can also free up speed, but until the system starts not working, let's just enjoy this great team and great system. personally i'd rather have malone in for his net presence on the power play not to keep the other team in line like it's 1979. the guy can score.
2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Mal.... Malone would be fine there too. Then the question is where does hags play
So is hagelin just there because he deserves top 6 minutes? Tough to shoot it down at this point, but it did seem like a big body suits brass and zucc best on the wing... I'd argue to put Hayes there on the wing. He showed a very creative hockey sense, so seems he would be on the same page with brass/zucc, not caught off guard by unexpected passes etc. I'm sure he'll get his shot there at some point. Mal
when the isles had Chara i used to see him practicing out in syosset all the time. i swear it was as if he was just learning to skate. no joke. he figured it out, hopefully McIlrath will become half the player DZ became.

Ha! And you'd think there was a Steinbrenner upstairs with all these clean-shaven faces. Seriously I predict a monster year from 61 and co.
One more thing, as I am thrilled for Nash after semi-deserved criticism last year. It's all well and good to acknowledge that he is hustling and playing a complete game as an all-ice, all-situations team player when he's not scoring... But let's face it, that was taking the silver lining approach during the playoffs, a consolation for him not scoring... Yes, one game in, I get it... but if he also starts scoring like this, like he way-more-often-than-not has throughout his career, then the complete game he brings looks even better, and we've got a hart contender on our hands, for cheaper a lot cheaper than Kane and Toews. Time to root for the big guy again, he's our best player (not in goalie pads)
Yeah Mcd got slew footed in the last :02... Totally dirty and hopefully pronger will review it.... Oh wait, he won't bc it's the rangers. "Mcd suspended for arguing"...
I think this team is far better than last years. Obviously, they have the experience of last year to build upon, but man: a healthy Ripped Nash, a budding superstar in duclair, upgrade in role players (stems and glass looked terrific) and a confidence in a proven successful system. This will be fun to watch- I don't think there's any team where 3 lines each have a terrifying breakaway threat on every shift (kreider, hagelin, duclair). Gonna open up lots of ice and keep D on heels. Pumped to be going to home opener! LGR!!!!
brass has such good vision, this will get hagelin lots of breakaways. although kreider is only half a step behind hags (if that), so who knows...
2 weeks, 2 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@dylonergan or bring back greschner for a shift to exorcise it
3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@Bueller @SmellyKisio ok true, but still that Sakic-esque snapshot from the circle beat a real NHL goalie like he was a mite.
3 weeks, 4 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
did haggerty really blow around the outside twice like it was nothing? imagine 2 hags on one line? duclair is a breakaway threat every shift as well. DAMN this is gonna be a good team. perfect retool
I normally lean slightly toward the cautious approach, but something about this kid screams NOW. He was electric out there and the most noticeable player most of the game. There was a play when he entered the zone with 2 lighting quick stick handling maneuvers like it was nothing, which opened my eyes wider than the goal or the crazy-creative setup when he dished to Nash after back checking, stealing the puck and creating the offense single-handedly… Oh yes, he also had chemistry with Nick Rash, which is no small deal. Quick, creative and responsible, good head on shoulders. Sign him up. With a great mix of youth and veterans, and exactly the right coach, this is the right type of team to take a chance on a possible superstar teen. It makes sense to give Duclair a real shot, now.
