One point - you said Rielly and Gardiner should stay together as the #1 PP point men "until Dion Phaneuf returns". Why stop then? Phaneuf hasn't been that effective and the season is already lost.

The REAL elephant in the room is the grossly overrated management team, almost exclusively assembled by the now departed Brian Burke. Thanks Burkie. Nonis & Co. have handcuffed this franchise for years to come with long-term, expensive, NTC contracts. That, and constantly overrating their own pet-players - Holland, Smith, Gardiner, Bodie, Ashton. ALL of the aforementioned could be swapped two-for one to get solid pieces. But I for one have no confidence this management group has the moxie to make the necessary moves.
Solution? Hire Masai Ujiri (or his clone) to mould this roster.

@sniperstar @Bruffins @Davinder Granted, but isn't Randy Carlyle touted as a defensive genius? A former Norris Trophy winner? Who better to teach him the part of the game in which he's weak? You can't teach what Brennan offers offensively, but smarter D should be no problem. You don;'t have to be physical to be an effective defender (see Niedermeyer and Lidstrom)… just smart.

@Bruffins @Davinder About one third of the games.
Just go back and look at Bozak's stats. They are solid. This season he'd be on pace for 70-75 points if he hadn't been injured. I love Kulemin as THEE third line centre and PK stalwart. The Leafs need strength, size and experience down the middle and Kulemin fits the bill. Bolland should either be moved before March 5th or in the summer. For something. I'm still not a Clarkson fan. He's a veritable kill;stone on the right side, what with than insane salary. So I guess the Leafs are stuck with him. If they can squeeze 25 points out of him, that's only $201K per point. Pocket change.
T.J. Brennan is MORE than ready to become a Leafs defenceman. That should make Franson expendable and a valuable trade asset at the deadline. A Franson/Bolland package might entice a nice return of picks and a prospect.
Gotta keep Reimer for now. He's a sold number two. Plus, look what happens when Nonis & Co. trade a goalie… they trade the wrong guy. OR, perhaps they wanted to send Reimer to LA and the Kings insisted on Scrivens because they did their homework. The only reason the Kings sent Scrivens to the Oilers (perhaps the best deal T Mac has made so far) is because of the emergence of Jones and the fact they handed FAR too much money and commitment to Jonathan Quick for helping win one Cup.
Meantime, the Leafs must be crossing their fingers that their highest paid defenceman and Captain doesn't get hurt at the Olympics. What's that? Oh. I guess Dan Hamhius is more telented. Someone hand him $49M. QUICK.
It's been clear to me that the Leafs would be just fine without Bolland and Clarkson. It's too late to correct the gross Nonis error with Clarkson, but one way to mitigate that move is too trade Bolland for something close to what he gave up. (picks) Sadly, that's unlikely to happen, so Nonis should just suck it up and trade him for a third rounder, making way for Holland. It also helps Nonis's insane, self-inflicted cap limitations.

Clarkson's first goal may have been a little overdue, but it was a beauty.
