Randy, Holzer for Gardiner on Saturday.
2 days, 9 hours ago on GDT: Game #32, Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Carolina Hurricanes (7 p.m., TSN4)
im not overreacting to this start, but the fact that we're averaging 37 shots against during this winning streak speaks volumes. i won't take this team seriously until this is fixed.
i agree, i think clarkson is hard to play with. he isn't a good passer or playmaker. i feel sorry for lups having to play with him. he's working harder this year, but he certainly doesn't make the people around him better.
3 days, 18 hours ago on Game Review: Game #31, Maple Leafs 6 vs. Anaheim Ducks 2
@wendelsfist @AlbertaMapleLeaf @Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs winnick should be in this list too. wherever he is put, he makes it work. and he's got a lot more skill that people give him credit for too.
4 days, 10 hours ago on Tuesday Mashup: Ducks in town
@Cameron19 i like these lines a lot. winnick can center too, but he's a better winger.
1 week, 1 day ago on Game Review: Game #28, Toronto Maple Leafs 2 vs. Detroit Red Wings 1 (SO)
@wiski heroin toronto?
1 week, 4 days ago on GDT: Game #27, Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Calgary Flames (7:30 p.m., TSN4)
@Luke_R @wiski i dont like it either. it gives line two a little more heft, but lupul and kadri are on top of their game right now. I'd keep them together. maybe it's test for holland to see if he can rise even higher with a guy like lupul.
@unfunny i love kessel, jvr and bozak, don't get me wrong. but they have to figure out the d system and the breakout and get their plus/minus straight. period.
1 week, 6 days ago on Game Review: Game #26, Toronto Maple Leafs 5 vs. Vancouver Canucks 2
i think we need to shake line 1 up. they're too weak in our end. kessel is the worst breakout winger on the team. he's never on the half-wall in position for the simple breakout pass. jvr's positioning is weak too. he's always in no man's land between the slot and the d, and affecting neither. until they can commit to a disciplined breakout, like the rest of the forwards have, we need to break them up. i'd go:
Lups - Kadri - Kessel
JVR - Bozak - Santo
but hopefully this doesn't mess up santorelli's cycle game.

did kozun have to clear waivers to go down?
3 weeks ago on Friday Mashup: Not Enough Games This Week
does loov have a two-way? i might give him a look in polak's absence. we need some of that physicality. holzer maybe too.

where's santorelli in this last push? he should be out there every second shift
kadri empty netter please. he deserves it.
robida's best positional game.
@Mcost61 @sharkbabysitter no, i mean revamping the D. a line 1 monster, and at least 2 more Polak-style players. too many soft puck movers back there who aren't moving the puck right.
1 month ago on Game Review: Game #19, Nashville Predators 9, Toronto Maple Leafs 2
our defence is too soft. pure and simple. phaneuf's gotta go. for starters. if we had 2 more polak's back there, and a genuine line 1 monster, we'd be fine. tweaking is all the forward group needs. focus all energy on the getting something done with the defence, management. ASAP.
@Burtonboy @ingy56 @Knights2Leafs i was shocked they kept carlyle last summer. i immediately thought it was because they were making a serious play for babcock and didn't want to fire and hire an interim coach for a year. i still think that's the case. ironically, i no longer think it's all carlyle's fault. his assistants helped fix the systems, and he's been running four lines pretty decently. the problem is our core is too soft. kessel/jvr/kadri/lupul/phaneuf....too soft. yes we have tough support players, but we need a few tough stars too.
oh man. carlyle's post game looked like a dead man walking. and funny, i don't think he's to blame right now. i think our core is simply too soft. kessel/jvr/kadri/lupul. too soft.
1 month ago on Game 19 Scoring Chances: Predators 9 vs. Maple Leafs 2
the worst thing i saw the whole game was phaneuf's response when reimer came out and lost the foot race to the puck. phaneuf didn't even put his body in front of the net to try and save the shot. he stood to the side like a pussy and waved his stick in front of the net.
now, i go back and forth on my feelings for phaneuf. but i will never forgive this. it shows what he is willing to sacrifice for this team: nothing. if i was shanahan, i'd pull him into the office with all the coaching staff, run that clip and strip his "C" on the spot. i'd also say that he's officially being put on the trading block unless he can earn his way back into the teams good books.
1 month ago on Game Review: Game #18, Buffalo Sabres 6 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs 2
@wiski @sharkbabysitter i'd love to see that.
1 month, 1 week ago on GDT: Game #14, New York Rangers at Toronto Maple Leafs (7 p.m., CBC)
i would go panik-kadri-kessel next game.
@Whalz i like lievo on the top line. he was fantastic in training camp, has skill and adds a little sandpaper to the first line. glad he's getting a shot, i wish him the best.
@dlb Mad @sharkbabysitter i think it's a mental thing. reimer's more comfortable being the underdog. everyone is. it takes the pressure off. i love reimer, but i think bernier is far more mentally tough.
1 month, 2 weeks ago on Game Review: Game 11, Toronto Maple Leafs 3, Chicago Blackhawks 2
@dlb Mad @docmma reimer is best when battling back or getting shelled. he's able to clear his mind and get the job done. problem is at the beginning of a game or when the heat isn't on. he's nervous, juggles everything, doesn't make you feel comfortable. bernier does.
@GLG booth isn't a 4th liner. and we need more bang back there. i like kozun, he deserves a real shot. i'd go: ashton/bodie - holland - kozun
1 month, 2 weeks ago on Game Review: Game #10, Toronto Maple Leafs 4, Columbus Blue Jackets 1
@TheLoovTrain @ingy56 @Great Dane gauthier's a checking center, line 3 at best. i think nylander's gonna be line two center next year.
finally scratched frattin. we've been giving him the benefit of the doubt since game one of training camp. he needs to be sent down to the marlies to find his confidence/game again. if he doesn't clear waivers, so be it. if he doesn't ever find his game again, so be it. we have too many hot up and comers in the system to be carrying dead weight.
would also like to see panink sent down and lievo called up. panik needs to be eased into the system, not thrown into the fire. toronto's a lot to adjust to. again, if he doesn't clear waivers, so be it.
nice to see carrick coming up. i wonder if this means JVR's not gonna play. his head might be worse than originally thought.
the assistant coaches fixed last year's broken system, so all that is remaining night to night is compete level. hard on the forecheck, getting inside on the one on one battles. the players have nowhere to hide now. even phaneuf has to get to the puck first on the boards. if they keep it up and keep each other accountable, they could go on a little run here.
1 month, 2 weeks ago on GDT: Game #10, Toronto Maple Leafs at Columbus Blue Jackets (7 p.m., SNO)
i wish we had a marlies allstar 4th line. Lievo-holland-ashton. they deserve a real shot, like 10 minutes a night for at least 5 games. don't know what randy's problem is with running four lines.
1 month, 2 weeks ago on Friday Mashup: Percy recalled, Game Day in Columbus
@Hifi75 @sharkbabysitter back the brinks truck up to babcock's house in the summer and make him an offer he can't refuse. if that doesn't work, a severed horse head in his bed outta do the trick.
1 month, 3 weeks ago on Monday Mashup: Picking up where they left off
@Hifi75 i hate to say this, but i don't think it's carlyle's fault right now. i was his biggest detractor last year, but his assistants have fixed the systematic problems. we're covering the point now etc.
our core is just too soft. i like clarkson moving up. we need a guy like him on the top line too.
and we need to play our fourth line for at least 10 minutes. but that line should be bangers. i wish it was lievo - carrick - brodie. they would wear other teams down and give us momentum.
@ingy56 @Mitch92 or "Wellll..."
1 month, 3 weeks ago on Game Review: Game #8, Boston Bruins 4 vs. Maple Leafs 1
@Burtonboy @Mcost61 if they're standing you up at their blueline, you get it behind them and get after it. it gets their defense turned the wrong way too. there'll always be a place for the dump and chase.
2 months ago on Thursday Mashup: Leafs Analytics Tools On Display, Lupul hurt
@Bruffins @Bring the Cup Home no, kadri-lups-lievo looked great together. lievo looked fantastic all camp. as good as percy. only in his last game did he look average. i'd have him up here before panik.
2 months, 1 week ago on Leafs Notebook – October 14
@djamon @sharkbabysitter wingers, cover the points and be on the boards at the hashmarks for the breakout pass. it's very simple and very effective. commit to it for ONE WHOLE GAME, line one. See what happens.
2 months, 1 week ago on Game Review: Game #3, Maple Leafs 6 vs. Rangers 3
While there were certainly some positives last night (line 2 and 3, percy) our game is still fundamentally flawed. We are still giving up almost 40 shots a game. it's ridiculous. and just like last year, it isn't sustainable. yes, they, aren't swarming as bad as last year, but neither are they covering the points religiously yet either. especially line one. the biggest problem in our D end is with our forwards, and if this isn't fixed, we aren't getting anywhere.
komorav-santorelli-clarkson line is the biggest news out of the first three games. they are getting it done and eventually the goals will fall for them. great chemistry. great effort. komorav's energy is so contagious.
also really liking winnick on line two. kadri and lupul looked great tonight.

@TheColborneUltimatum @DeclanK @Burtonboy put franson in a package, percy comes back up.
2 months, 1 week ago on Saturday Mashup: Penguins in town tonight
leivo will be back. freeing up some space until he heals. in the meantime, no harm in seeing how this panik guy fits. we could use a little more heft.
2 months, 1 week ago on Maple Leafs claim Richard Panik off the waiver wire
@Edward_Flannery i like clarkson on the powerplay. we need to build his confidence. gards and reilly together won't last long. it was an effort to keep the left side/right side in tact, without one of the kids playing with percy in his first game.
2 months, 1 week ago on Game Review: Game #1, Montreal Canadiens 4 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs 3
@reenergized @The_Polish_Cannon @Jmessih hurt. lievo is awesome, he isn't going anywhere.
2 months, 2 weeks ago on Saturday Mashup: final rosters to come shortly
@MaxwellHowe i think leivo should stay before frattin.
@Cameron19 @MaxwellHowe yup, hockey pool rankings. and in lots of pools (incl. mine) goals count twice as much as assists. hence subban and karlsson.
@Jmessih leivo belongs there more than frattin.
@Hmmm @Bring the Cup Home @sharkbabysitter i hope we lose booth. i'd put him, franson, holland and reimer in a package for a big, mean stay at home D man. carrick as our 4th line center. then we'd be on to something.
if healthy, this forward lineup could be deadly, actually.
@Mitch92 @MaxwellHowe trading franson for another big, scary stay at home guy like polak would make our team better.
2 months, 2 weeks ago on Game Review: Preseason Game #9, Maple Leafs 5 vs. Red Wings 1
@Hmmm second line too light. i'd go:
with kozun as a wing rover to different lines when they need energy. can you imagine what him and kessel wold look like skating together?
