One of the best deals the Leafs have made in years. Sure, we have the obvious links in Kessel and Phaneuf, but signing Gardiner to that sweetheart deal is just ludicrous in how unexpected it was. Gardiner is just too talented to not at least be a 40+ point defenseman. That's worth 4M IMO.
Leafs management have done a fantastic job. There's no doubt about it. They are deserving of applause for how they finally identified so many of the teams problematic depth issues and went ahead to resolve them bit by bit. Season has to play out, but there's no denying that the management team has been brilliant this off-season.

@Anthony Petrielli Oooooo. Moderator now, eh? You moving up in this world, Anthony.
@Ydargo They are great guys to listen to. Sometimes Michael will ramble on a bit, but overall, I find the length of each hangout allows for more robust discussions.
@TuckerForPunishment @CanuckUKinToronto @Cameron19 Gonna be really awkward when there's a line to hug the only girl who posts on MLHS.

@peterbleafs Not in Toronto. Certainly not on MLHS.

21 to 1 for the Leafs. Colton Orr scores 9 goals, giving him more hat tricks in his career than Seguin.

@Leafbites @ReimNier Yup, but at the same time, he's a rookie. I *think* he's better than those guys already, but I'm not ready to pull the plug on Franson either. Gardiner has impressed, but he's so frustrating sometimes -- the skill and skating are elite, but the thing between the ears is non-existent sometimes.
@Leafbites @ReimNier Just bear in mind that Fraser and Franson were sheltered all season long. Carlyle is doing the same with Rielly and Fraser as well.
@Leafbites @ReimNier I think it will be awhile. Another year at the very least.
@Burtonboy @ReimNier @-Keon- @TheCanucksnaphook @shawzy9 I don't think it's a matter of wanting a trade, but an upgrade up front. I'd sooner deal Franson before Gardiner.
I think Rielly already plays better man to man defense than Franson, Gardiner, and Fraser. He's that good already. I guess the coaching staff and management are working in tandem to manage his development time with sporadic benchings.
@Burtonboy @-Keon- @TheCanucksnaphook @shawzy9 But Gardiner has some major warts as well. Trading him for an upgrade, assuming there's one available, isn't a loss, but a gain.
I'm open to seeing him go, and I have made a few posts defending him.
@Great Dane To me it makes more and more sense to trade for Gleason. Let Gleason coach Rielly on the third pairing instead Fraser. Gleason as least was a solid top 4 d-man and he might not be able to play 20 minutes ES.
It is a better way to spend 4 million having someone with experience play with Rielly than 4 million with the Marlies.
Then let Gardiner and Franson get back together

Kevin McGran just stole the premise that Petrelli and I have written on with regards to shots based on inside 20" and outside of it.
Toronto Star article: http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/2013/11/06/maple_leafs_shot_breakdown_reveals_good_news.html
MLHS post on Reimer: http://mapleleafshotstove.com/2013/05/04/james-reimer-franchise-goaltender/
I can't find Petrelli's, but he used my spread sheet to expand on the shots topic last season.
Am I being oversensitive or did the Toronto Star actually steal my idea and not credit anyone for it?

Alec is such a karma whore.
"If you look a little deeper, you'll see his production."
TWSS I think.
@Jantz @ReimNier @Alec Brownscombe Oh that. Yea. I thought we agreed he's an idiot?
@Alec Brownscombe So... ... ... what did I miss?
@Greg Fenton @ReimNier No, you just don't read the crux of the arguments / evidence or choose to ignore it.
Okay, I see why no one argues with Greg Fenton now.
@Dan39 @ReimNier @Alec Brownscombe @GeorgeCastanza @Yaknowwhat Bernier doesn't have enough of a sample size yet to make a determination right now. But Reimer does. He's in Lundqvist territory when he started out. Reimer is closing in on Hiller as well. He's around Halak and Niemi territory as well. That's not just good, that's very indicative of his abilities at this point.
@Alec Brownscombe @GeorgeCastanza @Yaknowwhat A career sv % of .917 now. That would place him in pretty remarkable territory right now. I'll check up on it later. But I'm about 99% certain that would place him in Lundqvist territory after 110 games.
@Greg Fenton @ReimNier @TheCanucksnaphook @PrairieLeafFan
@Greg Fenton @TheCanucksnaphook @PrairieLeafFan What facts? That most goal-scorers score in bunches? Got it. Let me know when you stop pulling narratives out of your ass.
