@17Forever @zakimakIt's so hard to watch live and not being emotionally attached but if you watch the whole game again knowing the result and objectively, the mistakes are even more concerning. We had the Rangers helmed in for like a minute and when the Ranger finally was able to get out of their zone, they attacked and helmed us in with one guy on 2 with another 1 coming back. The Ranger changed and had us running around because everyone was tired from the previous attack. What this tells me is the Rangers knows we can't defend...I am just at a lost as to why Carlyle refuses to change what hasn't worked irrelevant of the herculean work by the 1st line and the goalies this season

@17Forever There's so much problem with the system that turn over just exasperate the problem. Every team turn over the puck once in a while but when we do it, it's all panic...It's like watching pee wee hockey. Everyone goes to the puck but none comes out with it. There's a multitude of problems that make the system not workable, I just don't know why Carlyle refuses to address it. Take the PK Wilson was too passive now we;re way too aggressive leaving guys wide open when we lose puck battles - which we often do. They fish for the puck when they could easily play the body when the other team is out-manned

@MaxwellHowe @zakimakMost...most don't win consistently and in the playoffs either with the same reliance
The unfortunate part is this win somehow makes it seems okay for the still bad plays and bad Ds. Without the goalies and the 1st line,this team is toast. Glad teams have not been able to shut us down but man...I can't believe we lost out on Vanek and MacDonald for those prices...
@BBirde @zakimak@MaxwellHoweyou're welcome.

We all know there are many players on the Leafs that are not where the need to be or should be. Practically every player has some part of their game that we are not completely happy with, whether it warrants it or not or at time ridiculous. Nonetheless they are not perfect.
"Kessel with his lack of physical play and at times defensive liability."
"Bozak not scoring enough or good enough at the circle to be true no. 1 Center"
"JVR not using his body enough to dominate"
"Reimer too many rebounds"
"Bernier bad goals and no highlight saves"
What we do know is this team is not as bad as they should be but consistently unable to defend or play a full 60 Minutes. If we talked about the first 10 games, that's completely understandable. 20-40 games, a concern and it must be addressed...At the 63rd game? Unacceptable. At some point, this is no longer a players only issue. This is a systematic failure. Either failure to get the players who might not be capable of playing the system to play said system or the system itself is deficient.
When you have that many players rotating in and out yet is still incapable of executing, the question has to eventually be focused on the system or the plan itself. Adaptation then needs to be implemented to fully utilizing the strength. Using a hammer on a screw when using a screw driver is more effective but adamantly refuses to to do so is asinine. Sure some screws will be hammered in but most will be bent.
Any coaching staff is there to elevated the already in place talent and utilize them in a manner that is truly effective with consideration of team play. This works when the is built for that team concept. This is not a coach that will do that. The rigidity of his thinking needs to be review.
I'll end it with the quotes from the above article.
"If there is a “one-line” problem, it’s partly because Carlyle isn’t sticking with what works."
"but there seems to be better lineup options available to Carlyle within the organization"
@Zep2 Yeah but the players seems to be playing a system that does not work or refuse to play it. Aside from the Offensive play, the D play does not work...so it comes down to you either change or your player are not listening....either way as a coach you bench them or change your system or ask them all to be traded

@Cloud09 If you look at last year, they pursue more but switches up as the puck move side to side and they did not collapse so quickly and so low. They are allowing shot from outside and points counting on block shots. The problem is it allow rebounds and if screened or deflected you're toast. That's why Carlyle doesn't seem to like Reimer because of the very fact he allows rebound.
@mr_hanie One game does not make it bad...it has been like this all season long. When it happens the latter half of the season, it is inexcuseable....nothing has changed...it just have been covered up by the goalies and career years from the 1st line

All year long we complained about the personnel usage, selection and system play. It was obvious to what I think everyone the watches the game.
Dressing 2 tough guys with no partners playing 2-3 minutes because "he can't trust them" WTF logic is that?
Mixing players up and alienating them
A system that get outshot therefore outchanced..."But if you goalie can't stop the puck from the outside he should not play" - He cannot stop the puck because the points are open and your 5 players are screening him trying to block the shot.
"We need to block the shots better because we allow too many shots" - WTF?
It's time heat should be put on Carlyle and not just the player....A coach should be accountable too.
@Loric76 it always starts with the top...shit slide down...I'd can them all
@Cloud09 EXACTLY...good goaltendin, your whole 1st line having career years...Phaneuf playing decent....the result is still this shit show of a system.
@Ydargo Dud that's 2 out of 3 is the coaches problem...batting .666%
@Cameron19 @zakimakI hear you point but the consistently bad defensive system play which were so evident cannot be ignore. This is not the 1st 10 games that these guys been playing...
"Coach how do we beat their structure of 2-1-2"
"Move your feet...skate...compete"
"Coach how do we stop crosby cutting across on the PP?"
"Coach how do we think we should deal with Broboski puck handling"
"Coach how do I butter my toast?"
"Move your feet...skate...compete"
@Cameron19 Dude...this is the 63rd game and after the hoopla about spending 2.5 weeks working on the defensive system...looks like the same old failures...
@Burtonboy Sorry you can't punch your way out of getting scored on from wide open coverage
@darthNihilus @zakimak@happy_gilmourThere is a system...some mysterious one call swarming that is beyond your comprehension...No one knows it better than the coaching staff
