You used to be able to get great deals on Christmas stuff after Christmas, but now it seems the stores clear it out before the holiday. The day after Christmas, all the holiday inventory is gone. Lately, I've been finding things like Christmas cards, decorations, trees, etc. half price or even less the week before Christmas.

You get more bang for your buck if you give to small, efficient charities where all, or most all, of your money goes directly to programs that support the organization's mission. (Rather than to fund-raising, advertising, or paying a 6-7 figure salary to a director.)

Small charities appreciate donations of any amount of money, as well as volunteer time, and in some cases, in kind donations. For example, I volunteer for the Fayette Humane Society, an animal rescue group, and we love to get donations of pet food, cat litter, and other pet supplies.
