Looks like Kareem is struggling with the definition of the word "year."

Pretty sure Pop did not win any of his 4 titles in 2013, and though the Spurs greatly exceeded expectations, I think there were many others in the big sports that finished 1st.

Hell, I would vote for Lindsey Vonn for Sportsperson of the year ... when you consider what a good sport she had to be to take all the crap that surely came with dating Tiger.

Once again, if you wish for your team to be a title contender (i.e. one of the top 4 or 5 teams), you have to accept the fact that the regular season is just going to be as boring as all hell.

Because, just like every other recent year, you have about 25 teams that suck so bad that they should open up a level between the NBA and the D League for them.

And the only games are that even interesting during the regular season are among the top 4 or 5 which come around very rarely.

IE I am really looking forward to Wed. Hope Pop doesn't bench his big 3.

@DifferentVSTheSame Just because he has been asked to study Bowen's defense doesn't mean Bowen was better at defense. Kawhi is much more capable than Bowen even on defense because he is longer and more athletic. But studying some of Bowen's move might teach him some tricks to make him even better.

Bowen had the luxury of being able to overplay the likes of Nash, etc. because he had a young, athletic Duncan behind him.

@DifferentVSTheSame @gruelingslate I'm not sure what I have lost but I sincerely appreciate a good spelling lesson from the anal among us.

Point is, Kawhi is a great all around player but I don't see him as ever being a markee player with his face plastered everywhere. He doesn't have the personality for it, and his game doesn't translate into big stats which is all that will make him known outside of big SA.

Now, please proofread this for me and post my grade by the weekend because I am waiting on pins and neeeeeedles.

Reply

@DifferentVSTheSame @gruelingslate Tim signed with Adidas so he wouldn't be associated with Nike's BS in my opinion and what is PEAK? Isn't that an antifreeze?

Nike creates a conflict of interest in their players because they just push to hard to separate the players image from the team and the game.

I'm not so worried about Kawhi because he doesn't talk so he would likely never be more than a prop in a commercial.

Bird, Magic and Jordan saved the economics of the NBA because the vast majority of NBA fans do not understand team basketball. This is why ordained individuals rule the game and the Spurs are considered boring despite playing the most beautiful brand of team ball in decades.

As I said, you go for the money. The NBA did. But the game of basketball has been diminished in the process all the way down to Y Ball.

And Nike has played a much bigger role than many want to admit.

@Mike ProjectSpurs @gruelingslate Money is money and you take it if someone offers it. I am a big fan of Kawhi's but do not appreciate how Nike played/plays such an integral role in elevating the individual over the team and over the sport itself beginning with their Jordan success.

Competitive balance and integrity are such important things in sports, and I believe that Nike has had their hand in significantly diminishing each.

No one clears space by effectively throwing his elbows more than Timmy. Its part of the game.

In fact, if my old buddy, Tiago Roundball, would lead with his elbows a bit more and issue a chest contusion or two here and there, he would likely find it easier to protect the ball in the paint.

There, I said it ;-)

Hill is also wasting away in Indiana's lousy slow down offense.

James Anderson is about to put up or shut up with the 76ers. In a round about way, I consider his expenditure as part of making room for Kawhi.

Kawhi is great to have regardless the argument though.

11 months, 3 weeks ago on Ginobili 'really angry' when Spurs traded for Kawhi Leonard

All trades require luck to work out. I would say we were very lucky on this one because it was reasonably clear that we were mainly dumping Hill to avoid his big spike in pay.

Kawhi has turned out to be better in areas (shooting and ball handling for sure) than we could have expected because he gave little indication in college in these areas.

But now we're lock in. We cannot do the same and punt Kawhi right before he is about to make the big bucks because he has already made the A Team with the HEB commercials. That makes him a lock for a long stay.

"blairball always had a ton of potential" is a complete misread. Fron day one, with his lack of height, total lack of a shot, and well below average defensive instincts, it was clear that he didn't have and never would have an NBA skill set beyond a spot player or garbage time king. I am just surprised that it took Pop so long to figure it out.

I expect the Pelicans to be exciting, and modestly successful.

Speaking of Pop and talent recognition, I have notice that James Anderson has scored 40 in his last two games as a starter for the Sixers. I always thought that he just needed an opportunity to run and play with a bit of freedom to bring out the success he had in college. Definitely an NBA skill set there. Just hope he puts it together.
