I'm going with "It's his lucky shirt."  Now he can't change it because he scored a goal wearing it.  Or maybe it's his post game interview shirt.  It accentuates his biceps!

Every time I watch a game of hockey I think I understand it - until I see a game like this.  It looked like the  rangers were too slow to keep up with the Wild after two periods.  I was blaming Av for changing the lines too much.  Too many Ranger passes were sent to nobody.  Then the explosion came!  Five goals in one period?  Zucc looked like he was shot from a cannon.  He never seemed to lose the puck and his passes were perfect.

Icing on the cake were Zuccs first goal of the season and Dukes first of his career!

I was ready to castigate Klein for scoring a girardi goal(is that two already?) and Mueller for playing like a minor leaguer when they both came through in the clutch.  I also thought some of those penalties against us were the typical anti Ranger ones (Jagr tripping himself in front of the net and imaginary holding by Hayes on Jgar).  I would like to see Hayes on the penalty kill.

Time to bring back Duclair on Saturday for either Malone or Glass.

I really miss Brian Leetch on the power play.  When you watch how futile the Rangers are in trying to keep the puck in the zone it's almost comical.  Whoever plays the point just can't read where the puck is going.  When was the last time we had a good power play.

I don't agree with this move at all.  Sending Duclair back to juniors is a waste for him.  Playing him intermittently on the Rangers would be better.  The kid can play.  Help him out with some coaching if he makes defensive mistakes.  While they're at it, get a coach who knows power plays and face-offs.  If you need toughness, send out Kreider.  Even John Moore is a fighter.  I would sit Tanner Glass.

My question about Stralman was he worth 4.5 mil for a second tier defenseman? He didn't play anywhere near the time that a Mcdonagh and Girardi played on the penalty kill.  Maybe he just kept the status quo against second liners.  Was that good enough? He didn't help the power play much.  Just thinking out loud.

We don't screen the goalie enough.  We also overpass at times.  Take the damn shot and someone follow.  We made Carolina's goalie look like a star.

Duclair and Hayes have to stay.  I might even try Hayes on the penalty kill with that big body.  Sort of like a Boyle with skill.

Kostka has to go.  He's slow and stupid, not a good combo.  Bring up the rookies!

What I especially like is that no one washes Malone's face with a glove in front of the net.  He commands respect.  What is wrong with Zucc?  Seems out of it.

I think we have to keep Haggerty or Duclair.  I know it's only preseason, but it's been a long time since we had players who can shoot.  I don't know about their toughness yet and how they'll do with tight checking, but the preseason certainly is more exciting than it's been for a long time!

I don't know about the rest of you Ranger fans, but it finally looks like we have a young group of players who can score.  Gordie Clark deserves a medal!  Can't you just picture a line with Hayes, Haggerty and Buchnevich on it.  That still leaves Duclair!  Hope I'm not jumping the gun.

Wouldn't sign him now.  Too much of a risk.  With Skjei and McIlrath coming up, it's not worth it.  I would look to trade Girardi and open up some cap space.

As long as Gordie Clark is making the picks, I feel confidant.  I don't remember who is responsible for Jessiman.  Clark has done wonders with middle of the road picks and college players.

Just not going to miss Pouliot and his bonehead mistakes.  Stempniak is definitely an upgrade.  Pouliot may have been taller, but he rarely came up with pucks in the corner.  Fifteen pounds heavier and he might have been more effective.

I vote for Mcdonagh.  Zucc and St. Louis can be alternates.  Mac is the best player overall and is respected by all.

I'm dying to see this kid in action against professionals in the nhl.  We still need people to put the puck in the net.  How bad could his defense be?

Moving Hagelin would be a mistake..  Speed doesn't grow on trees.  He was dynamic in the playoffs and his shooting has improved.  Let him put on a few more pounds of muscle and he might be a mini Kreider..

Boyle can be replaced.  Besides, who would you trade him for that is better without giving up another prospect.  Sorry, he's too good .

Maybe if Pouliot gained 15 lbs. of muscle to protect Brass and Zucc I would consider keeping him.  Otherwise his bonehead penalties and constant offsides will not be missed.  Personally, I'd like to give Kristo a chance or a real goal scorer.

If there is anybody out there who still thinks that Montreal has not been showed favoritism, I have a bridge to sell you.  Why wasn't Subban given a penalty near the end of regulation for slashing.  Two games for Prust?  What a joke!

Am I the only one who is upset about AV's Tortorella's defensive plan the entire third period?  Ironically it worked by some miracle and the King's superhuman effort.  I hate this kind of hockey and I doubt it will work further down the playoff road.  On the positive side I can relax until Saturday.

I hope it's not Av who doesn't know how to motivate Nash, but he shouldn't have to.  New York always accepts players who look like they're playing hard all the time.  Nash was flying down the wing a few times last night.  Maybe he had to to keep up with Kreider.  Now Nash looks like Jagr in his last year with the Rangers when he lost interest.

We don't look as fast as the Pens unless it's our style.  A few times those fast line changes force us to dump the puck in which is not our forte.  We never seem to be in position for rebound goals, either.

Let's face it.  Nash and an old St. Louis can't compare to Malkin and Crosby.  We are at least two top players short of being on a par with the elite teams.  I don't know if our Hartford players are the answer down the road.

Amazing to see the ref waving off Brassard's goal.  It would have been great if Pittsburgh came back and scored and then Brassard's goal was reviewed and they would declare the Rangers the winners!  I could see that the goal was in from my couch!

I still say to use Dominic Moore on faceoffs in the offensive zone and on the power play.  Either that or give Stepan some lessons.

Let's ditch the Boyle with MSL experiment.  It didn't work at all.  Also, how about using Dominic Moore for all faceoffs in the offensive zone, at least on power plays.  He's the best on the team at it.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the other French-Canadian refs feel the same way as Stewart and make calls against the Rangers because they don't respect them.  This has been going on for years!

@Say my Name  I agree with what you said wholeheartedly.  Nash does not always use his size and strength to his advantage.  He is not a great forechecker and gets knocked down quite readily.  Part of that is mental.. why else would Nash spend so much time on the side boards watching the play unfold!

I think AV is confused about what to do with his lines.

Sitting Miller in third period was an overreaction.  Picking on a rookie for a mistake inhibits growth.  Torts did this with Kreider(Boy, I miss him!).  AV is really screwing up MSL.  Bounce him around to a few more lines, why don't you.  It's hard to get the puck deep when you play 20 second shifts.  We need a laugher for a win!

@Say my Name  Leetch was the best at keeping the puck in the offensive zone but he didn't have the strength of McD to bang players in the defensive zone.

Mc donagh was too kind not to punch Simmons in the face.  He did push him and Simmons went flailing backwards.  Bush leaguer than whacked with his stick again.

By the way, now we know why Kreider wasn't himself the last few days.  Hope he's back for the Flyers in the playoffs.

Kreider has become invisible because he plays 20 second shifts.  He is the only Ranger where opponents back down.  For that reason he is worth his weight Literally.  Av doesn't see this importance!

I agree that it was really stupid to have the King's ceremony before the game.  It lulled the crowd and the team to sleep.

Av is not using Kreider correctly.  Switch him to a line where he doesn't have to watch Nash try to skate through three players.  Use him on the penalty kill and the power play.  He has too much talent to only play 10 minutes a game.

Where is Steve Vickers when you need him?  It was really bizarre to see Girardi and McDonagh scoring from in close.  Was that Av's plan or was it just luck on our part?

7 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/

Refs were trying their best to screw the Rangers in this game.  No goal my ass!  I think the refs were afraid to call too many penalties against the Blue Jackets.  Pouliot should have been benched after that horrible pass.  It looked like the King was sleeping.  We still pass too much when we should carry the puck and too much passing on the power play.  We lucked out at the end thanks to Girardi!

@Dekking89  I definitely agree.  King can't stop a high shot anymore and most of the goals he gives up are glove side..What does Av tell the defense during the game?  Also, the forwards didn't cover their men in the defensive zone.  Stepan is really bad defensively.  At times it appears Staal can't see the puck.  Strahlman should hit the weights.  Is Conor Allen so much worse?
