Wow. That has got to be the worst signing of the off season. But it is great news for the Rangers.

@DPMohr64 @KevinTheNYRBlog @jasonshyer Well put Kevin. When the shoe (skate) is on the other foot and the team has all the leverage they are usually sticking it to the player. I have absolutely no sympathy for any of the players or teams. This is a business and both should do what is most beneficial for them. There are so few exceptions (Zucc being one that comes to mind).

I Like those choices. I think MSL is around for at least one more year after this contract ends. He also would be a great mentor for Mcdonagh and Zucc is literally the heart and soul of this team.

Unless Sather is beefing up the Hartford roster this is a total waste.

Not sure why everyone is talking about Miller replacing Poopalot. I think Miller initially will be slotted as the 3rd line center replacing Richards. If he can handle the defensive responsibilities (can he be worse that Horseteeth?) I think that is where he will be.

@fs2020 Elite 4th line player??? Wow I have never in of a 4th line player being given elite status. Listen I liked Boyle and the role he played for the team but losing him is not that big a deal. He is a 4th line player who is a very good penalty killer. We will survive his loss and I think Glass will provide upside in skating ability and toughness.
I think Sather should tear up his contract and get a new one done for more $$$$ and more term. If that stiff Girardi is getting 5.5myn then Mac is easily worth 7.5 - 8myn. Need to lock him up long term, like for 10 years.....

@MikeBlue You gotta be kidding. Where were you all season??? NEWS FLASH..... Rangers played for the Stanley Cup. Team will contend next year and for the foreseeable future. Just be happy Sather did not spend on ridiculous contracts yesterday.
Given the $$$$ that was being thrown around I am happy where the Rangers sit this morning. Yes we lost some favorites from last years team but come on, Poopalot 5 years for 20 million, Stralman 4.5 myn a year for a 1 goal season? Lastly B. Boyle will never amount to more than a solid 4th liner who can PK and win face offs. As much as I dislike Sather I am pretty happy he sat on his hands yesterday. I think D. Boyle will be able to fill that 2nd pair role and will be able to put up about 15X more offense from the back end as well as provide a better alternative on the PP point than Brad Richards. At least now we should have enough cash to lock up the RFAs we really needed to keep.
Wow. I absolutely love this guy. Not only was the the Rangers best player this past season but also the player with the biggest heart and balls. (you listening Nash and Stepan?) If Sather does not lock him up for the long term then he should stick that cigar up his ass and ride off into the sunset.

I don't see the reason we would go after Boyle for 5 myn. I think we have some kids who can QB the power play from the point.
The big problem with courting Stasny is him using us as leverage to gain a better contract from the Avs. He has said he wants to remain in Colorado and would give the Avs a chance to sign him. If that happens Sather and us get deeply screwed.
The Kreider is going no where. He is the first Ranger player in many years who has the skill set to morph in a superstar. Size, Speed, Touch. Skill. Once he has the defensive side of the down pat there are very few players in the league who will be playing at his level. This kid is going to be a beast. THere should not have even been a "why You Lose Him" section on Kreider. I will keep Kreider over Kane in a heartbeat. Kane is a head case who should be playing in the NBA not the NHL.

@Pvelyk @Rangers_54 Totally agree with that last paragraph. With the large contracts comes a large spotlight and increased scrutiny by the fans and media alike. I certainly do not have any sympathy for the players or the organizations. I personally think that athletes, movie stars and any type of celebrity are grossly overpaid. But I guess it's the American way.
@Pvelyk Not for nothing. The player or his agent has every right to obtain the best contract they can. As far as larger / longer contracts and overpaying for talent goes that rests squarely on the owners and general managers. No one put a gun to the organizations head to sign that huge contract. Most fans just don't get it. This is the same problem in every professional sport and one of the big reasons ticket prices are so high and beers cost 11 or 12 bucks. Good old fashion American Greed.
@Josh-CK Josh. I would keep Stralman over Staal any day of the week. If you can trade Staal for some offensive assets then go for it. Between the concussion and the eye problems Staal has not been the same player. I think J. Moore would have a good chance of becoming a top 4 guy and I really want to see Connor Allen given real chance to make the roster.
@nickdesposito Game 6 in 2012 was decided by a major penalty that changed the whole dynamics of the game.

@Poops McDonqvist WOW. The flying "V", AWESOME !!!
@allagash The only changes I want to se AV make is on the PP. Get Horseteeth and Gorardi off the damm PP. They are costing up big time. Would like to see Stralman and ZUcc at the points in their place.
WOW. That is actually great. I hope our guys can come up with something big for the game out in LA>
How about the New York Press and how sucky they treat the Rangers. The Rangers are playing for the CUP and all the back page pictiues and headlines are about the Knicks signing their head coach which is already old news. That is total disrespect being shown to the Rangers.
Kevin, I so agree with your statement about removing both Richards and Girardi from the PP. I have been saying this almost all season. Richards is way to slow and Girardi has Zero in the way of offensive instincts. I would like to see Stralman replace Richards and possibly Klein replace Girardi. He at least looks comfortable when handleing the puck in offensive situations. Other alternative is put Zucc on the point. You know he is the best passer and most creative player on the team. On a side note: AV had the best line of the playoffs when Pierre asked him what he said to the Team before the game and AV told him he did the Netflix commercial. I was hysterically laughing.
I hope AV makes some changes. Horseteeth has been absolutely terrible. Actually why not pull a Torts and put his ass in the press box. I know , I know he will never do that. But seriously get him off the PP and stop putting that line on the ice at the end of periods and keeping them out for defensive zone faceoffs. They are a serious defensive liability.
Kevin, your assessment of the Ranger effort is spot on. There did not seem to be any desperation in their game with the exception of a couple of players. I still can't believe that Nash could not fight thru that hook by Doughty. That was a pretty powder puff attempt. I can't believe that AV is still going with Richards on the PP point. He is slow and LA seemed to jump him every time he touched the puck. He is not capable of playing in an uptempo environment plus his turnovers are absolutely killing us. I cringe every time I see the Richards line on the ice for a defensive zone draw or at the end of a period. Has anyone kept count of the number of own goals we have scored in this years playoffs. It has gotta be close to 10 i'll bet. Having said all this I just hope we win the next game at MSG. I don't want to see the cup lifted by a visiting team.
@HobbitLover78 Totally agree. The Richard line is by far the worst defensive line we have. I cringe every time I see them on the ice either for a defensive zone face off or at the end of a period.
Well put Kevin. Need to enjoy this run. WHO would have ever envisioned this after the start we had this season. As AV said "What are you smoking?" Richards has been absolutely horrible. He is way over matched and for the life of me I don't understand why AV keeps putting him on the PP point. He has been the cause of more turnovers and shorthand chances for the opposition. We very easily could have been up 2 zip in this series. The big difference is we are not capitalizing on our chances when we get them and LA is making us pay for our mistakes. Not giving up by any means but I think the experience factor is showing here. Go Rangers !!!
I know I am stating the obvious but you just can't turn pucks over in the D zone like Step and Girardi did. The Kings are way to skilled to be given free shots at Hank. As far as Girard's turnover, yes the forwards left the zone because it appeared Girardi had an easy out. He should have eaten the puck and given his teammates a chance to get back into the play. But NO he panicked and did the same Girardi shit, blind pass up the boards. He does this numerous times every game.

Does anyone remember the not to distant past when the Kings could not buy a goal for all the tea in China. Well they got hot at the right time, SO FAR. New Series, new opponent, new dynamics, NEW NEW NEW. Let's see how it plays out. Again as I mentioned in an earlier post, my biggest concern is in the face off circle. LA is probably the best in the NHL while the Rangers probably are near the bottom. Hope I'm wrong but this could go a long way in deciding the outcome of the series.
Not for nothing. The Kings played 21 games and we played 20. What's the big deal. It's not like we only played 12. This is going to be a real tough uphill battle for the Rangers. Kings are much more physical than any team we have faced in the playoffs. Another huge advantage which no has mentioned is in the face off circle. The Kings are probably the best in the NHL where we probably rank near the bottom. This could create a huge advantage for LA. Don't get me wrong I am rooting 125% for the boys in blue but it will be a tough tough climb.
WOW> WOW> WOW. This is an awesome feeling. What a totally dominant third period. Probably the best 3rd period I have seen the team play. I know we didn't score but we were so fast Montreal looked like they were standing still. Montreal looked physically exhausted by the last 2 minutes of the game. Waiting until next Wednesday is going to feel like forever. The only question I have on the negative side is what the heck is going on with Staal?? He has been horrible. He needs to be way better GO RANGERS !!!

@DP_Snotty @Bleed_the_freak Sure looks a lot like Plekanec to me.
Really not feeling good about this game. Very worried about the bounce back. I just hope the team is not as tight and stressed as I am.
@scrangersfan Dude. Do you really think we are gonna lose 3 straight to the Canadian DIving team?? No Way No How !!!
Kevin, I hope you are right. Can't take anything for granted as the Pitt series should have taught this team. Need to come out and play harder than we have the last couple of games. Can't be sloppy with the puck and can't take dumb stupid penalties. The Habs will be coming with everything they can muster. Gotta press their D and just keep putting shots on net and hopefully pick up some rebound goals which we have not been able to do recently.
Missing Stepan did seem to be a big difference in this game. Neither Kreider or Nash had the same type of opportunities they have had this whole series. I think D. Moore was in way over his head centering that line. Too much skill there for him. I said the other day I would have like to see Miller centering the that line. Speaking of Miller, any news on his injured shoulder?.
@AnnoyingJoe @Poops McDonqvist Me too. But I will be drinking my beer through a straw

@Bradrichardsbeliever No the problem was that while the Rangers got the first shots there was no one crashing the net to pick up rebounds. Most goals in the NHL are scored on rebounds not first shots.
3 months ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@TomDundie @Bradrichardsbeliever Totally agree on the Staal analogy. He did not seem to be into the game especially in OT. He had no idea his check was in front of the net on the game winner. Just before that when the Canadians came across the blue line 3 on 3 his gap was so huge his man could have almost carried the puck all the way to the net rather than unload a quality 30 foot slap shot that just missed the net.
If I were a betting man I would putting $$$$ on Brass playing.
@mlsranger @AnnoyingJoe I can see Cooper and RoY but why Babcock over AV?
WOW. Are the Canadians taking lessons from the Penguins and Crosby. What a bunch of whiners. I guess you can't expect anything more from this coach. He has never been a winner and is certainly is not one now. Never their fault, never take responsibility. The Canadians management and fans should be embarrassed by this caoch and team for all the whining they do.
@Zelrio I am really looking forward to the garden serande the Canadians with the "O Lay" song.
@chrisD @Rangers_54 Chris, Did you look at the video in slo mo. You actually can see how much the Montreal stick wraps around Kreiders leg. Agree it was not intentional but don't think there was anything Kreider could do to avoid the hit based on what have seen.
WOW. Just looked at the below video. You can really see the stick flex around Kreiders leg in slo mo.
Typical French excuse (WHINE). Not willing to take responsibility for the play of their own D man who is the one who caused this to happen by slashing Kreiders leg. This is the same as the play with Fleury as well. He was pushed right into the goalie. Stop making friggin excuses for the shortcomings of your team Therrien. Look at the tape and admit your reaction is STUPID.
Clearly looks like the slash across his right leg caused him to lose his balance. You can see the right leg lift up after the slash.
Kreider was chopped right across the legs by the trailing Canadian D man. It should have probably been a penalty shot or at worst a tripping penalty. But NOooo this is the Rangers and the refs never give them the call. If that were a Canadian payer breaking in it sure as hell would have been a penalty shot.
Kevin. While I agree with a lot of what you have written here; This is actually a real excellent piece; Nash has been skating his ass off. He has been playing 200 foot hockey. Both his fore and back checking have been awesome. But bottom line he is being paid the big bucks to score goals and alas he has not. SO while I would give him an A for effort I would have to agree that we the fans want to see him produce on the score sheet. I think if he somehow breaks out of his slump and the rest of the team continues to play at this level we can win the whole thing.
@Picaz77 Can't wait to hear the garden sing the "Oh Lea" song as we send the Habs packing. That would be better than hearing "Marty" or Potvin Sucks"

@swandad @TheNYRBlog @TheWrage There is no way Talbot even gets a sniff of the crease except for warm-ups or Hank gets hurt.
