It's increasingly obvious that Presti's initial success was pure luck.
1 year ago on Kevin Martin walks, leaving a hole that needs filling
@claeys Sloan has his teams foul way too much, doesn't believe in taking 3's, and isn't receptive at all toward advanced stats. I don't like Brooks, but Sloan is stuck in the 90's.
1 year, 2 months ago on Should the Thunder amnesty Kendrick Perkins?
@OohWeeItsVelvetHoop @Amnesty Perkins Really solid on defense? When was the last time you watched basketball, 2008?
@OohWeeItsVelvetHoop ...not even close
@Jax Raging Bile Duct Still waiting to hear about those matchups...realistic playoff matchups preferably
@perk is my best friend @TheFix82 I'd be more receptive to that argument if Brooks, or even Perkins himself, had shown any indication of being willing to severely curtail Perkins' playing time (as in bench him completely against teams like the Rockets and play him 10 minutes max against teams where his skills supposedly add value but in fact don't - Grizzlies). We have an extremely stubborn coach.
@perk is my best friend Value will be added simply by eliminating the option of playing him.
@Royce Young @TheFix82
A: It's human nature to be less critical of people if you like them on a personal basis.
B: Is Perk a good enough person to accept a severely reduced role on the bench for the good of the team? Or will he sulk and complain that he isn't starting?
Royce, it seems like you "absolutely love" every Thunder player. Understand that you're an independent blogger, not someone on the organization payroll.
Praising Perkins' "particular set of skills" when he played like dog shit in the one matchup where his skillset was most relevant (Memphis) is just laughable.
@T-Fred He is delusional.
1 year, 2 months ago on Exit Interviews: KD don’t give a damn
@okcjim @TheFix82 The point is that we lost to a very good team. Don't diminish their accomplishment because it makes you feel better.
@okcjim @TheFix82 Because 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2007 are definitely relevant to 2013. Who won the last time those 2 teams met in the playoffs again?
@okcjim Have the Spurs proven anthing yet?
Most people would strongly disagree with you about Brooks.
1 year, 2 months ago on OKC’s season ends early as Memphis moves on, 88-84
The end of the game shouldn't fool anyone. Fire Brooks.
1 year, 2 months ago on Grizzlies vs. Thunder: Game 5 Pregame Primer
That's a fitting end, frankly. Durant didn't choke because he hasn't played better anyway.
Take the 3. If you're the worse team, don't risk overtime.
So what's Durant's excuse? Tired?
Memphis kind of shut Russ down during the regular season. Let's not just assume we'd win this series with him.
At the least, it'll give this organization an unwarranted excuse to shy away from necessary changes.
"We're going to get hot because we're playing defense" - Scott Brooks
Fire him already
Let's not blame the refs for this series. Please.
Doesn't Royce think Nick Collison is good?
Well we're not going to win when Randolph is the best player on the floor.
Tony Allen might be one of the stupidest guys in the league. Not a high-IQ player.
That was a clean block. You really think the Defensive Player of the Year needs to foul in order to block a guy like Perkins?
Perkins is such a worthless POS. Staying behind and complaining on a clean block, watching as his teammate gets posterized.
And that should do it
@C-Wil @TheFix82 Well, if this organization is that stupid, we don't deserve to win a championship.
TNT is hammering Perkins. Will the mainstream media finally call out Presti for signing this bum?
@C-Wil Who in the organization loves Perkins?
Frankly, this team would have even lost to the Clippers.
Was trading for and signing Kendrick Perkins the worst move by an NBA GM of the decade thus far?
They miss Russell Westbrook because they miss James Harden.
Wrap your mind around that, Royce.
1 year, 2 months ago on How much do the Thunder miss Harden right now?
Perkins must be amnestied and Brooks must be fired as soon as possible. Presti's name should be on the chopping block, because I can't remember the last good move he made.
1 year, 2 months ago on Play it back again: OKC falls in overtime, 103-97
Not mentioning Harden in the game recap is inexcusable.
1 year, 2 months ago on Gone in 90 seconds: Thunder can’t close Game 3, 87-81
This team had an all-time great point margin. We were an obvious contender. These opportunities aren't guaranteed.
Long-term thinking has its value, but sometimes this FO doesn't seize the opportunity enough (eg Chandler trade, now this).
1 year, 3 months ago on Russell Westbrook to miss remainder of postseason after surgery
I see a sweep in the cards.
1 year, 3 months ago on Thunder will open the playoffs against the Rockets
I don't really care about this game. My opinion of this team's championship prospects was shaped based on our performance against the Heat.
1 year, 3 months ago on Knicks vs. Thunder: Pregame Primer
So the "best team in the league", according to scoring margin, has only won it all half the time in the past 30 years?
I think that metric is very flawed.
1 year, 4 months ago on Are the Thunder the most dominant team in the league?
I already know we can make it to the finals. I'm not going to be excited until we prove we can beat the team that awaits us after we make it.
1 year, 4 months ago on Thunder vs. Clippers: Pregame Primer
Royce, you didn't mention a single replacement for Perkins - why?
1 year, 5 months ago on Deadline thoughts, and five potential targets
The main problem is that our bigs (Perkins, Ibaka) suck against the Heat. Also, Scott Brooks is a mediocre strategist who, at best, should be an assistant.
But we also can't ignore the fact that Harden would have been a lot more useful than Martin.
1 year, 5 months ago on Heat vs. Thunder: Pregame Primer
Every minute Kendrick Perkins is on the floor is a wasted minute.
So we wasted half the game. I wonder if this coach understands that's not how to beat the best team in the league.
@BRY BRY the guy with billions is going to be a lot richer than Harden with or without a team. Not that I necessarily care about the "morality" of all this - but people blaming Harden for being unwilling to sacrifice are just being petty. Bigger issues here, namely the FO moves that forced us to even get to this point
1 year, 9 months ago on Deal the Beard: What just happened?
Between botched Chandler trade, Perkins trade, Brooks extension, and this, I hope Royce stops treating Presti as a demigod from now on.
Moral of the story: the guy with millions is supposed to sacrifice instead of the guy with billions
@Labeasy I would rather let Ibaka go - this league has good defenders who will take less than 50 - and keep Harden. Martin won't replace what Harden brought to the table
Remind me why the fuck we had to sign Ibaka before Harden?
Sam Presti went to Emerson College and RC Buford went to Friends University. Neither had any advanced stats backgrounds besides what they learned on the job, and even then they're not numbers whizzes like Morey.
Here's a hint, bloggers: maybe the school you graduate from, or the degree you graduate with, or the "hip, cool, cutting-edge" stuff you're a part of, doesn't entitle you to uncritical praise from everyone on the Internet for years even when you don't seem to have any sort of realistic strategy.
