@Murph2417 fair enough, i get the analogy, just curious choice ("hero")
why would you get banned?!
@Murph2417 comparing yourself with Batman as you quit a forum? lol...
A confession: i enjoy visiting this site 5x more than actually watching Leafs games (because they suck). Also, two lockouts in ten years made it difficult for me to care about the NHL...but always cared about this place. Cheers
@Anthony Petrielli @Reversethecurse13 @Alec Brownscombe It seems like the mocking of these rules were a much larger part of the conflict than people going off-topic in non-mashup articles.I think this could have been handled better by both sides, the annoyed posters and the content-providers...I saw it all developing, and really, can only wish such a "transition" could occur as smoothly as from Disqus to Livefyre. I'm not part of either group, so it's hard for me to comment. But, given your powers/authorities, the rationale of your moves is such that we are where are....not in the greatest places. In this respect, you're managing children talking together on the internet, and this has become the result. All it is, is unfortunate. However, i do think that the content-providers/banners could have been more forgiving, in the same way we all ignore certain posters comments....
@Anthony Petrielli @Reversethecurse13 @Alec Brownscombe so, is the problem that there isn't good enough hockey talk in the mashup? Or that people are posting off-topic in non-mashup articles...it's confusing...I think your comment epitomizes the problem: "People pushing each other and their knowledge of the game."Some or most people come here not for that, they come for a social conversation with fellow leafs fans...if there is any problem here, it was the mismanagement of on-topic and off-topic threads. I just think if your expectations for this place are the description you had for the analysis piece you mentioned, that's quite utopian and exclusionary of most of the regular posters here.
@Alec Brownscombe Isn't it to be expected that posters here not be the type of people you'd sit down at an academic conference with?I feel like you guys are expecting this place to be turtle-neck wearing wearing nerds with calculators, or some teacher with a down-to-earth attitude....do you go outside? have you been a leaf fan for 30-40 years of futility? i think it's hard to expect all leafs fan to be calculated and rational....and you're running a leafs site...
@Anthony Petrielli @Reversethecurse13 @Alec Brownscombe I know what you mean...but, it's because your expectations are different than "ours." I've read and infrequently posted for many years, and the only comments worth reading closely were Cameron's....so, according to you, there hasn't been "quality hockey talk" here for half a decade.
@Alec Brownscombe My two cents: the conflict started with the instituting of "thread" rules about on/off-topic. In my opinion, i think you mismanaged the organization for people to talk freely. Now, you may think, why should anyone be able to talk freely on a hockey site? Well, judging by your quote about your need to look after your writers, i think you haven't had enough consideration for the regular posters who have been contributing so much for so long, including all the high-quality hockey talk.tl;dr - the regular posters were the ones contributing the great hockey talk, but they also had desire to speak off-topic...when this was mismanaged, the situation became "uncomfortable."
@Bruffins well, according to Cam, your inside jokes about Granberg were highly volatile and kept lurkers from posting, so.....you fucked up hard
@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan don't forget Rusty bro, he used to post tweets here all day for our benefit
@Cameron19 @Reversethecurse13 @elandan dude...you're basically asking people to be as thoughtful and considerate as you.....i thought there was a good balance between ignorant posters and their ability to be policed (by rational ideas, by you)....but to start arbitrarily banning people?....The only posters i am happy are gone are Honest Hockey and Andrew R...possibly even Greg, because he hijacked every convo...The question of respecting authority is legitimate...but i think it may be more important for the authorities to "be the bigger man." Lots of posters say disrespectful and ignorant things...shit even Wiski is still around...i can read past it though, and those kind of comments don't dissuade me from posting rational talk...
@Cameron19 @Reversethecurse13 Lately/recently is the off-season, though. Of course the off-topic banter will be fresh in your memory! And if you say that "well it has carried over into the season," well, that's because it "became an issue." If off-topic talk was truly the issue, then the result has been mismanaged...imoOtherwise, you could make many legitimate complaints, like:-game day threads are filled with over-sensitive cry-babies who scapegoat every player on the teamHow is that "productive to conversation?" And yet, will we see a curb of those kind of posts during game-day threads? This is just how i see it....there was a legitimate issue (off-topic talk) and it was mismanaged (valuable and respected regulars are gone).
@Cameron19 how is that logical....the style of commenting here is threaded, meaning OP's and their replies get threaded....how does that stop anybody from posting a NEW comment....i don't get it?the off-topic banter has been increased "recently' because we just finished the off-season!I do truly enjoy and am grateful for all your contributions here from time immemorial....but to think that this is a "positive" result, is i think not accurate...
@Cameron19 @Reversethecurse13 @The_Polish_Cannon Man, i've been reading comments here for a long time. At no point did anyone but myself stop me from commenting....it's a feeling of "if i comment, i'll be hooked here for hours" even though ironically i am hooked here for hours...i think the argument that these off-topic convos dissuade new people from posting is baloney...and if it is, why not change the forum up, with proper threads where all the valuable regulars could talk whatever they want...hell, they even said the mashup was an "all goes" thing....
@elandan hated reading Honest Hockey and i would definitely want to rip Andrew R's avatar head off....but yea, loved Jordan's posts, and Phooks...i come here for the comments, even the one's i don't agree with. This site wouldnt have become popular without the regular posters....except...seems like the approach was"be a regular (all day) contributor.....all within these strict guidelines" ....that's just not how this place grew...
@Cameron19 @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan @RandomScrub Cam, you just said "Control? No."....and then you said "they have the right to control what they want."which is it?definitely obvious its about control....and to me its "biting off your nose to spite your face"seems like they're taking the stance of "all those posters who are lurking but are too afraid to post" over all the regulars who have brought this site to what it is today.
@Cameron19 @The_Polish_Cannon those great hockey conversations came from the regulars...and the regulars may get bored rehashing the same shit over and over again. I think it's a shame, because the comment section is what drew me and kept me here many many years ago...
@Loric76 @Reversethecurse13 i like to see stuff crash and burn...
@Loric76 @Reversethecurse13 I was trying to figure out what the cause was for all the "unrest"...i guess it was the news that he's perma-banned.....yikes....this all sounds like child's play, frankly...i dunno...
@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan
@Loric76 the revolution will be [deleted]
@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan We're actually in a strange purgatory where comments go when deleted...
@CanuckUKinToronto I started a successful fortune 500 company based on your comments alone ;)

@TheCanucksnaphook How 'bout No, Scott
@Burtonboy There's not exactly stiff competition for the second-line winger position. He may have more skill than any of the competitors, but, as it should, being defensively responsible and having a complete game will be considered. Most teams who are trying to win don't like to play through rookie mistakes. So my guess would be starts the season with the Marlies or Sweden. If Marlies (my hope), he can get call-ups for injuries.
@Burtonboy I think it was in interview of an AGM from here, but he basically said "we don't make the decision really, the player makes it for us".
@Mcost61 Second line right-winger? For nine games? Marlies centre? Back to Sweden?
@djamon @Mcost61 Seems like pretty out-of-context numbers. But i am saying that Holland could potentially be a success on the top line.
Thing is, Bozak is pretty polished, especially on the defensive side. By polished, i mean he knows the safe play to make and (tries) to make it. He does really well to play to his limitations. Even though his rookie year he was way more radical in what he tried, he's somewhat accepted the finer details (at the expense of growing his skill set imo).I think Holland does not yet have that polish for the finer details, and is prone to mistakes which in the pros will dearly cost you. But, i do see potential in him..
@Mcost61 but more importantly, do you see Holland potentially having (more) success if he played with Kessel and JVR?
@Mcost61 @Reversethecurse13 Yes, but last year the team was winning many games despite being outshot (and outplayed) heavily. I remember Wilson used to bring out the blender. I don't think any player (except Crosby apparently) should have a right to playing with another player he expects.
I sure hope Carlyle is compelled to stick to his guns less. We saw it with Franson (paired with Ph9) on the PP. But i also wish he had tried Kadri at least a few more times last year. Despite the fact that when Bozak (and Bolland) were injured Kadri played there and it looked even more vulnerable defensively. And this year i really hope both Kadri and Holland get a decent shot at playing up top. But i swear RC keeps Bozak there only for his faceoffs.
@Xxxxxnew I'm thinking 10 goals and 15 assists by the half-way mark playing with Kadri and Lupul
3 months, 3 weeks ago on Friday Mashup: We’re Gonna Need a Montage
@Hmmm my hope for opening night roster:Lupul - Kadri - FrattinKomarov - Holland - ClarksonBooth - Santorelli - Winnikxtra: Kontiola, Bodie, Ashton
@Hmmm Lots of options. But we saw that 1) playing Clarkson with Kadri and Lupul was dragging the line down, and 2) that the combo was kept together or tried often.Carlyle: gives Clarkson a failing role on a line + no PP timeMe: put him with players of his ilk + 2PP timereally hoping that this does not repeat itself
@Hmmm @Reversethecurse13 Yes, but that would then have Holland playing with Komarov and Winnik. Which i think is a waste of his offensive potential.I think Holland can outplay anyone but Kadri and Bozak, i just hope he gets that honest shot.
@Xxxxxnew My mistake, i had his page open and glossed over it.Admittedly, his AHL numbers are good. I think the question will be his skating (pace). Can he do what he does to get points at a higher speed, which will be demanded in the NHL.I see Booth and Santorelli (and Frattin) as much better skaters.
@Hmmm @Reversethecurse13 A right-handed shot (so you'd think would give him an advantage over Booth).i wouldn't hate it (because i'm not sure if he has enough skill to play with Kadri and Lupul), but i would like the fact that this would probably give Holland more at centre.
@Hmmm @Reversethecurse13 because the likelihood a player who has never to play in the NHL to be able to come in is not very likely. Obviously his skill and place will become quickly evident to the coaches in training camp. I'm just guessing that he won't be good enough to play top 6, let alone on the opening night roster (provided full health).
@Hmmm @Reversethecurse13 I would add him under "my worry"
My hope: FrattinMy worry: Clarkson, Santorelli
Wild-cards: Booth, Komarov
