"a movie that would kick so much ass that I will need new butt cheeks!" Maybe James should start taking notes from those emails for the AVGN scripts, lol.
Wow, the good messages were so moving. I wasn't in such as hard circumstances as the people on these messages, but I was also having a difficult time in my personal life when I found the Cinemassacre website and watching AVGN videos helped me pass that time. You truly do a great job, James.

I think Boo wants to be an internet celebrity like his dad :)
I like having the nerd blog, but I'm happier to hear you're going to focus entirely on the movie. The only think that saddens me a little... does that mean you're not going to have your "obligatory" cameo in TGWTG anniversary this year? (since I heard they're in the process of producing it right now). It won't be the same without Board James to explain how to play Risk or the Voice of the Ancient World telling Angry Joe to go fuck himself :P
Even with all the budget limitations and obstacles, I'm sure you'll find your way around them somehow, James, that's the Cinemassacre's spirit, and I'm also sure all that you're learning right now will get reflected in your Cinemassacre works and all the work you'll do in the future.
The best of lucks to you, James and everybody, and looking forward to see you back in summer.

James, are you really the only person Gametrailers could find who owns a Cheetahman II cartridge? :P That's awesome.
I've watched other episodes of Pop Fiction, and I wasn't expecting James to be in character for the episode, but it was kind of a fun idea. I admit still don't get used to the "unshaved look" of the Nerd, though. Fun cameo.

This makes me apreciatte a little more all the effort put in the episodes. I can't make my own list from the top of my head, but I agree with many of your choices, I also agree that the running gag about Kyle living behind the couch is freaking hilarious :P ... now I disagree in something: Gomez mustache, I actually thought James looked really handsome with it.
Thank you so much for sharing these stories with us! :)

Very interesting read, thank you so much for sharing this. I would have liked that it included more about the movie and the Indigogo campaign, though. The economic support the fans had given to the movie is definately a testament of the power of web 2.0, and the benefits of cultivating a closer relationship with a fandom.
And according to this study, I'm part of a minority, I'm female and I'm a fierce fan of AVGN and videogames :)

I like how he talks about the Nerd as just one of his characters and projects, instead of talking about the Nerd as himself.
If you think about it, this video not only documents how the style of the Nerd came to be, but it's also a part of the history of how the whole internet videogame review genre came to be like it is today, since the Nerd style influenced so many people.

There's so much I loved about this post, but I think my favorite part was the “Watch out, Boo, Mommy’s Drunk n’ Makin’ Fish” line, lol. Anecdotes and recipes, perfect combination. I'm definately trying "James' breakfast mess" one of these days :P

@GrzegorzWojtczyk Yeah. I usually avoid leaving comments asking "what I want for the movie" because I trust James knows better, but if I could ask for just one thing is for Doug to have a cameo in the movie.
@doyle138 dude, you realize that most people are fans of the Nerd BECAUSE they LOVE videogames, right? we play them, celebrate them and enjoy them, but we all know how is like to get frustrated by a bad game from time to time too. Nothing wrong with laughing a little about that.

3 years, 3 months ago on Mrs. Nerd Speaks
Thank you, Mrs. Nerd, an excellent and very much needed presentation. The whole "Oh my god, James is married, nooo!" was a little tiresome, and there was still people in denial about that. I just assumed you had your reasons for not appearing on camera and I respected that you two wanted to keep your private life private, but I admit it's really nice to meet you at last :)
There are plenty of loyal female viewers, me included, and we do appreciate that you have decided to add a female perspective :)
@Mike/Cinemassacre Oh! I see. I haven't watch the cartoon so I didn't know. Frankly, I wasn't actually expecting the show writers to have pay attention to that. I judged them too fast. Thanks for the reply :)
3 years, 3 months ago on Back to the Future: The Animated Series
This is a cartoon I never watched for some reason I still don't understand. I loved the movies as a child, I would have loved the cartoon for sure, but I don't even remember hearing about it until many years later.
I agree with the fact that the show writers screwed by having Marty going back in time, changing history for personal gain and not suffering any consequences afterwards, it breaks the lessons Marty learnt in the movies (And frankly, having Marty causing a paradox and forcing him to fix it again would have made a cool episode, they were just being lazy).
My time for being nerdy: I notice that they changed the fact that the time machine could only travel through time, not space (they went from Hill Valley to ancient Rome?), in the movies it always stays in Hill Valley. Also the Delorean's time circuits from the movies only have enough digits to enter 4 digit years, which means the machine couldn't travel that far in time to see dinosaurs.
Being nitpicky aside, this cartoon looks like it was fun for the kids and even educational. I should try to find it and watch it sometime, for the sake of loving the BTTF franchise :P
Good Job, Mike. I liked your review of Robo Vampire, but I think is cool that you're reviewing nostalgic cartoons too.
Lol. The robot disguise looks horrible. What makes it even worse is the fact that they put Robocop in the cover, so people would inmmediatly compare the two disguises. But well, I guess Robocop image sells better.
The double with the wig: I'm going to guess that was the only wig that they could get. Totally cheap anyway :P
Robocop in the sand: Maybe Robocop was supposed to be melting... like melting he's metal body... still it's ridiculous...
GhostGirl/SuperVampireGorilla romance: ... ... what?
About the hoping vampires: there's actually an explanation for that, or so says wikipedia: "Jiang Shi, sometimes called "Chinese vampires" by Westerners, are reanimated corpses that hop around, killing living creatures to absorb life essence (qì) from their victims." ... so apparently vampires hop like that in asia *shrugs*
"It's fucking awful... I love it"

@LulzFactory91 Me personally, I don't have a problem with this video, but you may have a point about the trend of 'gratuitous swearing' in internet reviewers... but this was probably the less appropriate video to voice that opinion :/ Of ALL the videos on the site, this is one you can't hardly acuse of gratuitous swearing. Sorry, but it makes you look nitpicky.

Great review to an hilariously random movie.
I like this style of movie reviews. Fast paced synopsis of the movie, highlighting some funny scenes, pointing out some of the randomness and problems with it and simply let the movie make fun of itself.
I'm sure the reason Pirates world park doesn't exist anymore is because people kept flying off those speeding horses... :P

Funny, the cover of King of Kings makes it look like the game may be a racing game (with camels). And I can't help but notice that Wisdom Tree spent more money in the illustrations of the covers than in their actual games (well, in some of them at least).

@gamez Well, NintendoFrog was just sharing his point of view, he was not being rude or trolly. As it was suggested, he was probably thinking of James as a reviewer and not as a filmmaker (which is understandable), and that was the reason he was not able to see this as something relevant to James' work. I don't agree with his comment, but there's no point in adding more fuel to the fire.
3 years, 4 months ago on The Green Monster That Walked Into My House (1993)
The AVGN videos are scripted. There's no fakery, because this was never meant to be a completely thruthful review, he focuses on and exaggerate the bad aspects of the stuff he reviews for the sake of entertainment.
3 years, 4 months ago on The Power Glove
This was moving, and inspiring... but in a different way than how the original filmmaker intended, probably, since we watch it now with a completely different apreciation, knowing that James was going to eventually obtain some of the cult-following he wished for back then, but he couldn't imagine then how or when.
I'm not a film maker but I'm struggling too with my own creative goals, and this was truly inspiring.
The Confounded Crazy Critters Who Devoured Neurotic Live Stock and Couldn't Stop Dying So They Had to Carry Their Own Tombstones Over Their Heads. That title is just too awesome not to repeat it.
3 years, 4 months ago on ROLFE: A No-Budget Dream (2002)
The huge discussion here in the older comments pretty much sums up everything there is to discuss about this video (heck, even James got involved!). So I'm going to leave my comment short:
As simple and crude as it is, this video has editing, narrative and structure. I don't see how someone cannot see this as an early rehearsal for a future filmmaker. It's interesting to watch these old movies from a retrospective point of view. Thanks for sharing, James.
I find curious how the programmers were apparently trying to add some comic relief to the game, like the little rubber duck and the sad jack-o-lantern getting stabed.
I love that part where the Nerd does the same defeat pose as Silver Surfer, and the angry rant :P
Gotta love that in most episodes there's always a comment or two claiming that "this is by far the best episode" or something like that. A true testament to James' talent :)

New Board James episode, excellent. And title cards are back :)
WOW! Now, that’s what you call a BOARD! the part where they had to move the couch and then they fill the board with other boards was just hilarious.
I totally knew Mike was going to cheat when he said it was his kind of game while looking at those cards.
“What is this, Simon’s Quest?” am I watching an AVGN episode? :)
“How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop? The world may never know” that last question took me by surprise, I laughed so hard at that part.
Man... This game sure looks really impressive, but after all those rules, at 7:19, I was feeling just like Mike “All right, you know what? You win…”
This was a great episode.

I also used to think Dr. Claw's face had to be cat-like because of the MAD logo.
So Dr. Claw was Dracula's former castle? Jonathan Harker sure had the most interesting clients.
I think it was common in old funny cartoons to break the fourth wall once in a while, I remember thinking it was weird when it happened :P
Excellent review! very in depth.

Oh, we're back to livefyre?
Even if I have only vague memories of watching Inspector Gadget, I really enjoyed this review. I love how James always gives a lot of trivia (like the inspiration behind characters and scenes), and also gives us his own "fan-theories" to explain the silly stuff from the show that so obviously wasn't meant to be explained :P Every time I watch a Cinemassacre's review I gain a new appreciation for the shows, movies and games reviewed. Awesome job.
"To make them think they can acomplish just as much, if not more, than their parents" I really liked this interpretation of the Smart-child/Useless-adult dynamic that is so common in cartoons, I never thought about it that way.
I can't wait for part two :)
