As a MU fan I would hate to see Florida pick up Christensen for MU's sake...it would be fun to keep stompin' the gators and Coach C would make that offense sing.
1 year, 3 months ago on Offensive Coordinator Chatter Continues At Florida
their only loss was in double-overtime to a top 10 South Carolina squad. That leaves Missouri ranked fifth? If the same resume belonged to Michigan, Texas or Southern Cal you can bet those “name” programs wouldn’t be fifth.
According to Jesse Palmer MU can use this SEC Championship Game to "prove" (for the 12th time) that they are "legit." He can't be that dumb, so why is he championing FSU/OSU?
1 year, 3 months ago on The BCS Title Game: Five Teams, Two Slots, One Test Of Blind Resumes
C'mon, this is why SEC is not in control of being in the championship game? Wow, that is a stretch, since these are SEC vs SEC numbers only. How about because there is a smaller gap between the haves and have nots in the SEC as compared to last year? Or simply, Alabama wasn't as strong and as well coached this year and caused them to lose a game while the weak conferences (ACC and B10) have a team that rose above the others to have an unblemished record? Throw in a little SEC fatigue and human voters will cling to any excuse to keep 2 very weak schedules that produced up to now 2 undefeated seasons.
Here's the more alarming concern for SEC, especially if considering a 9 game schedule. With the new playoff selection committee you are seeing a glimpse of the playoffs. Human perception that will award the conference champions of B10, SEC, P12/B12 and then pick between ACC and the rest. Taking on a 9th SEC conference game will just make it easier to keep a 2nd, worthy SEC team out of the playoffs because "conference champions" will ALWAYS trump stronger teams that did not win their conference. The 9th conference game will NOT be helpful to a selection committee, it will just give the SEC more opportunity to take a loss.

After "proving" themselves week in and week out I find it interesting you still get the "...let's see what they do in the championship game to be (triply) sure they are legit." What a joke, all the know-it-alls haven't seen this team in person or talked to the teams they've manhandled. Maybe the fact that most of the teams lose after they played MU might speak to their physicality. Simply put, I think MU would easily beat the buckeyes (as would Auburn) and it wouldn't be difficult. The B10 is a joke of a conference, perhaps tied with the ACC for 4th or 5th best conference. I remember the buckeyes whining about Boise and TCU "stealing" BCS spots because they "didn't play anyone" but now they stand behind the "we're undefeated in our sad conference..." We are going to a playoff that will supposedly require teams to schedule more aggressively. HA! What a joke. The sisters of the poor (B10/ACC/P12/B12/AAC) will annoint 4 "conference winners" period. Rather than build a schedule, this will set a land rush to look like the buckeyes schedule...oh and John, B10 wanted to go to 9 games because it helps their 1-2 decent squads look stronger gaining wins vs "BCS" quality competition. Until they go to 8 teams I think SEC fans will be sorely disappointed with our new playoff system...welcome to hell.

John, you know my name.
Yes, it wasn't overt, but jumping on TJ's bus made all those birds shake their tail feathers crowing about "Mr SEC agrees MU was punked and that the SEC would have been better off not expanding." I guess I gave you too much credit thinking you wouldn't fall into that mud puddle or maybe you knew exactly what you were doing... The only reason I went to it was my jaysquak acquaintances were beside themselves that y'all didn't correct TJ and his ongoing drivel. I can at least say you didn't trot out the canard, as TJ does in the middle of every anti-MU rant (basically whenever he isn't talking about how much he knows about the SEC (a little) and how Ar-kansas is elite) that he doesn't hate MU, actually he thinks they are a great institution. I guess the only thing he has left to say is that "...why, some of my best friends went to MU." But, you didn't say it John.
1 year, 9 months ago on SI’s Staples Weighs In On A&M, Mizzou Moves
Good night, yet another "expert" weighs in with drivel I'm sure was pulled with all that passes as journalistic integrity from twitter and blogs.
John, just heard your segment on a podcast in KC with the sad sack ar-kansas hack TJC...seriously? Thought you were quite a bit more supportive, but I guess that is just for show here. Well, you made all the hurt feelings of the B12 listeners better. Very eye opening.
Every once in awhile the ol' ball coach spins up a gem...and this is it. If this rivalry just can't be part of a regular rotation but must be played yearly, what a simple solution w/o forcing everyone elses hand...let them decide for themselves what is best for them and what they need. In the rotation when UT/Bama would play, then it counts as a conference game, otherwise it is part of the 4 game non-conference schedule..
It gives Nick his all important 9 game SOS, permits that must see (?) game every year for one and all and the rest of the conference can just play the rotation and see everyone much more frequently OR can find their own must have cross divisional yearly rivalry game. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. And if someone trots out that canard that "it just doesn't mean as much" then what kind of rivalry is it, really? Sort of eliminates all the emotional BS about "...didn't complain when they were losing to UT...man up (my favorite, btw) or some other high school drivel.

frug - Exactly. Imagine 13 of them would like the commish to give OSU/Gee some serious direction. Indeed, sounds as if they did. Still don't understand why he is being given double open probation when he should be shown the door. Guess it was because it was just Catholics.

How about Delaney steps in and this bigot is shown the door and stays on vacation? It would be the first time in a long time that I would respect something coming from the Big Ten.
Gee is simply a bigot that doesn't think before he speaks. He has had made multiple comments that were obviously said in closed rooms and he decided to bust them out and then hide behind the "apology" or the "you couldn't believe I meant that that way" baloney that only the so called elite look the other way because "...oh, he means well." He should be skewered and run out of town. I am sick to death that this type of bigotted thought and speech is "acceptable" in any forum and if we as a people don't put a stop to it, it just continues.
Too heavy for a sports blog, but unfortunately this idiot has imposed himself by a quick look at who he really is.
1 year, 10 months ago on Slive Has Already Accepted An Apology From OSU’s Gee; Columnists, Twitter Outraged
I read it John. 6 years is a long, long time in the life of a football coach, players, students and especially recuits, talking heads/media and what fans want to watch. Perception quickly becomes reality and I don't believe Tenn/Bama holds any major national cache right now. UGA/Bama would, UF/LSU absolutely does and speaking to the mercurial rise and the right now element of sports, A&M/SC or A&M/UGA does. What happened 7 years ago??? Not so much. Want to capture that momentum, give them the ability to create those cross divisional match-ups that drive the ratings rather than get stuck with UT/UA. IF THEY WANT IT, then let them reap the SOS/ratings etc for that "rivalry" pick, if not, let them change to the support of their fans/students/alumni...maybe even their network?
Again, it is simple. This would also be as fair as possible, as they pick their own poison or simply play the rotating schedule. Fans can heap all the "sniffling" comments they want, but it doesn't change the FACT that for the better part of 6 years Bama has had a relatively easy win with their "cross-divisional rival" as compared to say LSU, Arkansas or Auburn. Does this explain why they have dominated during this time? There are years you could make that argument when 1 win/loss in conference decides frequently who does/does not play in the SEC Championship. However, the simple beauty is, this permits them to play who they want to and THEN only Bama has Bama to blame for scheduling UT every year and UT can only blame themselves if they agree to be the Generals to Bama's Globetrotters.
If this is adopted, I would be very interested to see what "rivalries" survived past 2 tears and even more so which sprung up.
1 year, 10 months ago on Shortsighted Pundits Suggest The SEC Dump Permanent Rivals
No sniffling, simple solution. Don't like being homecoming, actually win a game.
This is pretty simple, put your money where your mouth is...Permit one cross division rival per school but each side can decide to end it at will after the next 2 year (home/home) is completed. This permits those must have, line in the sand, great rivalries to continue under mutual agreement, permit those not feeling so great about their rivalry partners a way out and open the door for new rivalries to develop. The only catch: has to be consensual, any school can end it per above and for fairness and scheduling by the league. You can have zero or one cross division rival only.
I guess we would find out quickly just how revered those rivalries really are and how they stand up under the highly competitive glare of SEC football. Actually may help to develop those marquee games that do not come around in a 6-1-1 very often, like UGA-Bama, well, that is if they give up homecoming every year vs the Vols.
Really, it is simple.
Yes, that's a non-starter in StL, but I understand the thought. Better would be rotate kU-MU between KC and StL and play kSU-Ark between KC and Wichita.
1 year, 10 months ago on Conference Scheduling Alliances Are Great In Theory, Hard To Pull Off In Reality
You have to admit from a coaches perspective (whose coach life typically averages 3-4 years and can even be cut to 1 or 2 given a bad year - see MU) the long view is typically not something they can afford. Also, for the players, their view is a 4-5 year window. I can see why an Alabama that keeps drawing the long straw is irritating but if you believe things are not manipulated, it is fair. However, having set "rivalry" games that typically add an easy win compared to two top 10 teams going against each other that doesn't have to be permanent, not at all especially in the hyper-competitive SEC.
The best idea I have heard for all parties, let that cross divission game be the choice of the participants. If Tenn wants to keep getting bashed because it's a rivalry (versus homecoming every other year) and in the long term they will rebound, then so be it. If Fla-LSU want to keep it going because it is a long standing rivalry, so be it, but then don't complain about it...it was your CHOICE! Free will, what a concept!

It appears Coach Haith believes regardless of the penalty that he has backing and will be the Tigers head coach. I applaud Mike Alden et al for standing behind him. (assuming the NCAA would have the audacity to still give him one after the botched investigation, the lack of any proof and the purposeful "leak" that thrust him unfairly into a negative light w/o the ability to defend himself or risk "violating" the expectation of not revealing any information about the investigation...wait, why is he still being charged? Oh yeah, by gum, need to prove they have not wasted time/money so stick him with something/amything)

I said from the beginning of the report of the Miami investigator scandal that the only thing Emmert should do is have an investigation, (seems like a pretty light one now) clean house (he shouldn't be done...but he is) and then step down. Only way to give any credence that he was a man of integrity. He wouldn't on his own, but this is the sound of the hounds in the hunting perty. @5LittlePiggies MA can not hope to win with that style away from home. The reality of recruiting and the players needed to win with that system tell you it's a pipe dream. He came closest with the elite 8 run with MU but they needed at least one, probably 2 more to have made the final four (although UConn was glad to come out the winner) and nothing that MA has done indicates that recruiting void of 5* recruits with size, length and conditioning is on the horizon ala UK. Simply, that's not what those one and dones are inetrested in.

2 years ago on MU’s Franklin Tries To Stay Upbeat With Twitter Twirps
@bpa_kc @Statesman No, but he is/was Mr. Ohio. That said, Franklin is too slow for SEC defenses for 1)Read option runs. He takes 4 steps to get going, problem is usually by 3rd step he's tackled for a loss by quicker linemen/linebackers in the SEC 2)He is slow in making pass reads and simply slow in his motion when he throws the bubble screens. Daniel and Gabbert had them in receivers hands before defender took their 2nd step...Franklin doesn't get it out until defender is on the receiver. If you understand MU's offense you know that eliminates 1/2 of it right there.
Franklin's a great kid, but he needs a new role.

I find it a little humorous that half the time MU fans are told they are "not" part of the SEC yet and indeed, a number of fans chanted "SEC" at the end of games this year and yet the other half try to read into the "they" that coach has yet to assimilate. We are here, the team will play better and I'll take the under on the number of Off Line injuries this coming year vs last.
The problem with MU's spread was not the scheme, period. It was injuries, QB injuries/experience and speed of decision making by the QBs. Can the spread work in the SEC? I laugh that this is still a question, of course it can and does. Do you need a solid Off line and QB with quick decision making, absolutely. That is why Franklin will NOT be the QB. Corbin is not accurate or quick enough with his decisions. My money is on Mauk and if he can use the experience he gained with the system as a red-shirt, offensively MU will be able to utilize all it's weapons and they have quite a stock of them at WR and RB. MU will be much stronger offensively in 2013.
Defensively, the young players will have to step up or that is where they will be vulnerable.
If MU only gets an 8 seed, nothing would be better than if kU gets the 1 and we meet in the 2nd rd in KC. This place would be on fire, just like Lawrence was a few years back! :D
